Leadership and management are the important terms for the organisation that often used
interchangeably. For an individual it is very much potential to understand that leadership is one
of most important part of effective management. management is remarkable part of leadership
focus on the building an environment in which every individual can grow and excel oneself. On
other hand leadership defined as an potential term for influencing and driving group efforts for
gaining potential outcomes. Respective report is based on the river Island which is a high street
fashion brand operates in the no. of worldwide market, headquartered in London. Respective
report is based on the key theories of leadership and management in context of diverse
environment. Further it includes the motivational and team working principles to effective styles
of leadership. It also includes the extent of effective management and leadership and their
contribution in organisational effectiveness. It also includes effectiveness of leadership and
management behaviour and contribution of respective individuals at time to change by using
various tools and techniques.

In an organisation to operate and manage the business activities required a effective
leader who uses the effectual kind of leadership and management style in order to gain the
desirable objectives that are as follows:
Leadership theories:
Situational leadership theory: This leadership approach convey about the leader have to
act in the effective way by diagnosing the leadership style in a specified situation so that
practically apply in the organisation in order to reap important outcomes (Bush, Bell and
Middlewood, 2019). Leaders not breed or born but they develop the capabilities in
oneself to serving that are functional. Situational leadership helps to attempt the effective
kind of leadership within the larger situation which occurs. In context of River Island by
using situational leadership style leader can be adapt oneself as per the changing
situation in order to gain desirable outcomes.

Transformational leadership style: The transformational leadership style states about
the process of a person or an individual in which they interact with others in order to
create the strong relationship by using trust that enhance motivation of employees both
intrinsic and extrinsically. In context of River island by using respective kind of
leadership style they can be able to build bond with employees positively. By providing
training and development in areas which they feel lack behind.
Management theories:
Scientific management theory: This management theory is also considered as the way
of engineering science at production floor. Respective theory focused on the
improvement in efficiency of each and every individual in the organisation. It majorly
focus on the increasing production by using the intensive kind of technology as humans

Performing: In last stage of team development people start focusing on the both the task and
team relationships in order to gain synergy positively.

responsibilities to people so that they can give one of their best efforts (Leithwood, Harris and
Hopkins, 2020). It is very much essential to use effective kind of leadership and management

effectiveness of River Island company is mention below. Effective management – Respective company is conducting management activities on
the basis of directive management approach. This is very effective way of manage
employees as well as their performance (Antonakis and Robert, 2013). Manager of River
Island company is providing proper direction to its employees through which they should
conduct enterprise task. Effective management will lead to performance business
activities by considering set of direction as well as guideline. Directive management lead

statement is mention below. Mission statement – Mission of this company is develop performance of its employees so
that they can work effectively and create products or services as per need of customers.
This mission will help in developing strong brand image in market area.
Vision statement – River Island mission is to become customers most preferred fashion
retail company by providing high quality and products and services to customers.
It has identified that behaviours of leadership and management will lead to have major
impact on vision and mission of organisation. Influence of leadership and management
behaviours is mention below in detail.
Management behaviours – Manager of respective company is responsible for developing
better and effective strategies that will lead to achieve set goal (Dumdum Lowe and Avolio,
2013). Behaviour of management will affect the overall profitability of business and influence
performance of employees. Manager of this company is conducting different activities in order to
increase the moral of employees. There are various motivational techniques that will helps in
increasing the performance of employees. Through this behaviours of management, River Island
company can improve the attitude of employees so that they perform task in required manner.
Leadership behaviours – Leaders of this company are very supportive in shaping the
skills and capabilities of employees. It is role and responsibility of leader to increase positive

Changing At this actual changes occur and this will affect the behaviour of employees, process as
well as performance.
Refreezing In this stage organisation is focusing on refreezing the changes. So that each and every
employee can successful accept changes.
Manager and leaders in facilitating changes
Manger of respective company is communicating the changes in effective manner. This
will lead to information employees about changes along with its benefits. Leaders are motivating
employees so that they accept changes and work according to the required changes. Manager and
leaders are focusing in improve morale as well as encouraging them to perform task in better and
