MGMT1101: LEADERSHIP MANAGEMENT 2
Introduction
The discussion will be about various leadership styles and various leadership skills a leader must
have in order to deal with the current and future issues in an organization. There will be a brief
understanding of various leadership theories that can be used in order to deal with the needs of
the team and apply those strategies in the future.
Trait Theory
Trait theory of leadership is the one that differentiates a successful leader from a non-leader and
gives them the opportunity to lead the team. Being a general manager of a restaurant the 3 major
traits I have to motivate the employees are Drive: as I am ambitious for the organization and
have lot of new ideas and energy to do new things in life and has made good objectives for the
team, for example, I will allow the team to give innovative ideas and apply those in the
restaurant to improve employee creativity. Next is my honesty and integrity towards my work
and my team thus I will, for example, manage a regular check on the quality of the team’s work
and give them regular feedbacks. Another trait I have is the intelligence that has helped me to
foresee the situations and take preventive measures for example on the festive season I equipped
the employees and the restaurant with extra supplies to deal with the customer footfall. One such
trait is the communication style that I believe is very expressive and very helpful in order to deal
with the needs of the customers and my team that has made me an empathetic and popular leader
(Khan, et. al., 2016).
I believe in will be an effective leader as I have a clear vision and understanding about the needs
and problems faced by the employees (Colbert, et. al., 2012). I have better communication skills

and experience to forecast the issues and help my team to learn new skills and motivate them to
do well in the restaurant. I believe my passion will help me to make clear goals for me and for
my team in order to deal with the needs of the organization and help them generate revenue. This
will help me motivate the employees to work hard and earn knowledge (Tannenbaum, et. al.,
2013).
Situational, Transformational, and Servant Leadership
A situational leadership can be understood as the type of leaders that is ready to work in every
situation. They pose acceptance characteristics and help the team to face any situation; this kind
of leadership is effective in dealing with any transition and changes that have been implemented
by the organization. They are good at retaining the employees and maintain their interest in the
organization. The transformational leaders on the contrary that comes into leadership at the time
of transformation occurring in the organization. They are believed to be having strong vision and
mission in order to deal with the changes in the organization and make effective efforts in order
to align the teams for the transitional phase of the organization. The servant leadership is the
leadership that lack in a certain vision of their own rather their main purpose is to serve the
organization in every possible way. They put the vision and ideas of employees first and use the
resources in every possible way to attain the goals of the organization. Among all these
approaches I believe situational leadership is the best and most effective leadership as these
leaders have good vision and competency in order to fight with all the situations that follow.
They have experience and confidence (McCleskey, 2014).
One incidence in my life occurred when my company was merging with other company and the
employees were confused and losing focus. I was a situational leader and I helped the employees
and experience to forecast the issues and help my team to learn new skills and motivate them to
do well in the restaurant. I believe my passion will help me to make clear goals for me and for

to sail through the situation and motivated them to deal with the needs of the organization and
put efforts to develop it well. This has helped me and my team to understand the need of the
situation and know the features important to be focused on in future aspects of the organization
and meet their goals (McCleskey, 2014).
A leader with positive/negative traits
One of the most famous examples of using power and influence in a positive way is Adolf Hitler
who used his power to kill thousands of people and applied dictatorship rule in the whole nation
his methods were brutal and his team was afraid to use any innovation and demonstrate new
skills. His motive was to be the lone voice for all and does not allow anyone to be as successful
as he is. One example of a positive leader was Mother Teresa whose sole purpose was to serve
the people in need. She became world famous for her good deeds and support she offered to
injured, poor and handicapped. Being nun she allowed all the needy to come to her and tried to
help everyone in every possible. Her mission was to help and support the needy and she never
lost that spirit until the end of her life.
Leadership Scenarios
In the first scenario, the leader is required to follow participation style in order to understand the
pattern of the employees and make an effective decision as well (Meirovich, 2015). This will
help them to collectively perform well. In the next situation, the leader should use supportive
method form the path-goal theory in order to motivate that employee to learn more and help her
learn the features of the organization. The employee is on the experience stage of her work as
she lacks in particular experience to be used in the work so as to deal with the needs of the
organization. She in this stage needs guidance and motivation from the leaders to learn. in the

to them to learn and grow in the organization. I will help them to schedule the work and
coordinate with each other to perform well in the task and maintain harmony (Polston-Murdoch,
