Introduction
This is an assignment which will provide insights and knowledge about the different types of
leadership theories. The assignment is prepared to focus on the defend approaches of the
leadership management. In every business situation, there is a need to implement some
leadership style and this report will give information about various business situations and the
types of leadership styles best suited in a particular business situation. There will be reflection
included in the report.
Trait Theory
Trait theory is the theory which is the determinant of a successful leader. Different leadership
theories are applicable in diverse business situations. As a general manager of a restaurant, it is
very essential to motivate and retain the staff. The service of the staff is the key determinant of
the success of the restaurant. The qualities and traits which I possess is my zeal. It is crucial for a
manager to be zealous. A manager must be ready to learn new things to provide the best services
to the customers. The manager of a hotel must also be ready to generate new ideas so that the
restaurant can grow and prosper. It is all about my competence to manage my flow of ideas and
make them productive so that the business can grow. Another trait which I think I have is that I
am very good at motivating others. It is known by everyone that motivated employees are an
asset for the organization. I think I motivate people very well. It is also very necessary so that the
staff of the restaurant gets regular motivation to work to their full potentialities and serve the
customers to their best (Eubanks, Brown & Ybema, 2012, para 8. pp. 3). The next trait which I
think I have of a successful leader is my decision making skill. There are various decisions to be
taken in an organization. It depends on the skill of the manager to take effective decisions for the

organization so that the organization can achieve its targets and objectives. The trait which I do
not possess is the time management. For being a successful and efficient manager, I need to
manage the time effectively. Time management is required to manage all the resources at the
workplace and I think this is the quality or characteristics which I need to have to be a better
leader.
Situational, Transformational and servant leadership
Situational leadership can e defined as the leadership in which the leader is willing and ready to
work in any situation. The leader adjusts him according to the situation or condition and tries to
influence the people working under him (Leadership studies, 2019). This leadership style is best
suited for a business where there are a lot of changes taking place each and every day.
Transformational leadership is the leadership approach which is beneficial for the organization
and the society. The transformational leaders bring change in the organization and the society by
making positive changes in the organizational and social systems. In the transformational
leadership, the leader identifies the changes required and works to inspire and guide the
employees of the organization (Hoon Song, Kolb, Hee Lee & Kyoung Kim, 2012, para 2. pp
100). Servant leadership is the leadership style in which the main ideology or objective is to
serve the organization and the society. The leader always acts in good faith to motivate the
employees and does all the activities which are in the favour of the business.
I think the situational leadership is the best leadership style and approach. It is because, it is
important for a manager to be adjustable and adaptable in every condition. There are various
diverse business situations encountered by an organization. So, a manager needs to have that
efficiency that he can work in every condition and solve all the issue and problems of the

organization. Once I also experienced such a situation, in which there were major changes in the
technology used in the organization. In that situation, it was necessary to be calm and motivate
other employees to accept the change. I accept the change and also motivated the employees to
do so.
Positive and Negative influence of a leader
As there are various leadership styles and approaches, there are positive and negative influencing
leaders too. One of the examples of a leader with positive influencing leader is Alan Mulally, the
CEO of Ford Motors Co. He is the leader who saved the company from bankruptcy and
motivated the employees to stay in the organization. His efforts proved to be advantageous for
the business (Fortune, 2014). The previous leader of the company held the business in a very
difficult situation, but Alan with his hard work and dedication saved the organization.
The next example is of a leader with negative attitude. The leader is Donald Trump. The
president of America is a great leader but also has some of the negative aspects in his
personality. According to Donald, every misstep is the fault of others. He always de-motivates
people working under him. He is a leader who thinks that failures are not just bad; they are the
most humiliating thing in the world, which is also a very de-motivating statement.
Leadership Scenarios
1st Scenario: In the first business situation, the best leadership style to be followed by the leader
is the participation style. This will assist the leader to understand the people and the relationships
between the team members. This will also help the leader to identify the areas which can be
improved in the team and the motivational techniques which can be used for the employees.

2nd Scenario: To handle the second business situation, the leader needs to adopt the supportive
style from the path-goals theory of leadership. The employee in this scenario is experienced but
does not know to use the required knowledge to accomplish the assigned tasks. In such a
situation, the leader needs to guide and motivate her to use the proper skills and knowledge in
successfully accomplishing the activities assigned to her.
3rd Scenario: According to the trait theory, I need to possess three traits to be a successful
manager of a restaurant. To increase the sales of the business, I need to use my decision making
skills to incorporate new strategies in the restaurant. Another characteristic that will help me to
do so is my zeal. I need to learn new things which I can implement in the business to increase the
sales of the business. Another trait which will help me is my motivating nature. By motivating
the staff, I will be able to integrate the objectives of the staff members and the restaurant.
4th Scenario: In the next business situation, achievement approach can be used from the path-
goals theory. When the employees lack confidence, it is essential to lead them and motivate them
to achieve their own objectives. This will also prove to be beneficial for the organization too.
5th Scenario: In this scenario, the leader can use the directive leadership style from the path goal
theory. By the directive theory, it will be easy for the leader to lead the team members and also
resolve the conflicts between the employees (Nw link, 2019).
Personal leadership profile
If an individual wants to be good leader, it is very important to first understand the concept f
leadership and the different types of leadership styles. I also want to be a good leader in my
future. I have certain characteristics which reflect my leadership skills. I believe that these
qualities will certainly help me in my future. The qualities which I have are my decisions making

skills which are very crucial for a leader to manage the resources at the workplace. In every
business situations, the leader needs to think and then take an effective decision for the company
and the employees of the business. The decisions making skills will also help me in my other life
aspects. Another quality which I think will help me in my future is my critical thinking skills.
For every leader, it is crucial to analyze each and every aspect of a business situation. After the
analysis and evaluation of every aspect of a situation, a leader is able to take god decisions for
the organization. The critical thinking skills will also assist me to analyze the behavior of the
staff members and decide the type of motivational techniques to be used for motivating them (De
Vries, 2012, para. 5. pp. 810).
One more quality that I have is the quality of motivating and inspiring others. For a leader, it is
essential that all the employees and staff members are always motivated and inspired. When the
employees are motivated and inspired, they prove to be as asset for the company. The motivated
employees perform to their best and contribute in the achievement of the organizational
objectives. I think this quality will help me to inspire the employees and they will also give their
best for the company.
The values that I will apply in my future job position are that I will try to contribute to my best
potentials in the organization. As a leader, my focus will be in the integration and achievement of
the organizational and employee objectives. This will ultimately motivate the employees to serve
the organization in a better manner. Another value that will apply in my career is the value of
ethical working. I will always do the activities and acts that will be in the favour of the
organization. I will encourage my employees to be ethical in their working and follow all the
rules and regulations of the business. To protect the interest of the organization and the
employees will be my main objective.

In my future, I want to be a successful leader and for that I need to learn new things so that I can
implement in the diverse business situations. The things which I learned will assist me in taking
important business decisions and manage all the resources of the business in a better way. The
learning will also help in being a leader with positive attitude and influence.
Conclusion
The assignment concludes about the concept of leadership and the different styles of leadership
which can be adopted by a leader. The assignment also provided information about the various
theories of leadership which can be implemented in the organization. The qualities and positive
attitude of a leader is the key determinant of the success of the leader as well as the organization.
