1.2 The impact of legal, regulatory and ethical considerations to the recruitment and selection process
The recruitment and the selection process is very lethargic because it constitutes various
practises of human resource in choosing of the skilled and talented staff. The selection process
comprises of the various laws which has to be followed by the organization which can affect the
company outcomes and its objectives (Glickman, Gordon and Ross-Gordon, 2012). On the other hand,
these laws and regulations are create to make the process fair and equal for all the employees as well as
it helps in to go the process smoothly. The positive impact which can create through legal, regulatory
and ethical considerations are eliminating the discrimination between the genders. This discrimination
should be removed from salaries, job position etc. which are creating differences between male and
female employees. The workforce which are from diverse cultures and also from other countries has to
follow the rules and regulation of the UK government and its policies (Parker, 2011). The laws and
regulatory framework of the UK government which governing recruitment and selection process are

description, person specification, job advertisement, group discussion, personal interview, hiring and
the probation period. Virgin Media is an established company which has written documents which
evaluates the jobs and the suitable employees for that job position. However, whenever the recruitment
or selection process takes place, these documents are reviewed, retrieved and updated to provide new
information. In the selection, we take the interview of those only who are capable of the particular job
and for the interview, manager of the each department sat for the interrogation to know candidates
from each manager's perspectives.
3.2 Any conflict/difficult situations which the Manager may face to deal with employees in the
selection process
The goal of selecting one application:
After completion of the interview, when the employer has to choose one best candidate then it
is the most difficult task. So for that, the firm can considered a consistent method which helps in
selecting the best candidate from the rest. The interviewer can ask the other interviewee to give their
response on that chosen candidates (Khandelwal and Agrawal, 2015). The other way can be the
employer can cross check the references and the background checks to know the candidates very well.
After checking from both options, the HR manager can select the best candidates from the rest
candidates.
To deal with the conflicts:
The conflicts can be of two types that is positive and negative conflicts. Positive conflicts
includes giving innovative ideas, opinions about the various products and services because every
employees have different mindsets, skills, and backgrounds which will give different perspectives. On
the other hand, negative conflict can be arise to make demotivate other employees with their acts and
try to be unsupported with others (Horvath, 2015). These both conflicts can be solve through open
communication should be established between them. The employer should ensure that each member
have equal time when stating their perspectives.
1.4 The possible reasons for ineffective and unfair recruitment practices in selection and recruitment
and the evaluation
The possible reasons for ineffective and unfair recruitment practices in selection and
recruitment process can be the complex process and the rules and regulations which are set by the UK
government. The process which are taking place in the Virgin Media should be consultative and
transparent to the UK government. The firm ensured that the whole process should be guided by the
equality, objectivity and accountability etc. so that the process should be done effectively. But,
sometimes it becomes hectic for organization as well for the employees to follow all regulatory

framework and ethical considerations (Kabak, Burmaoğlu and Kazançoğlu, 2012). So this should be
make easy and more fairer process. To cut shot this type of long process, the HR manager of the chosen
firm should conduct the written test and only passed and selected candidates should be available for the
interview. This will shortened the interview as well as the company and employees will not have to
grow through long process. So, the Virgin Media should choose this type of selection and recruitment
process which is more effective and fairer.
M1
The other recruitment process which helps in recruitment and selection is use of the technology.
Virgin Media can use the MIS system that is Management information System which helps in storing
the data of the new applicants (Horvath, 2015). The organization can introduced the online test for their
candidates in which they will be recruit or selected for the interview on that basis.
D1
It has been concluded that both are different ways of recruitment and selection process which
assists in ineffective and unfair recruitment practices (Riggio and Tan, 2013). In this, written test
process is not that long and can be adopted by the organization. Hence, the store manager should
choose the best method for the organisation.

employees in the decision making process. The leader of Virgin Media encourages creativity and
innovations in their projects, tasks as well as in their activities (Jogulu, 2010).
Laissez-faire Leadership styles
In this, the leaders gives lot of freedom to their employees to do their work and to set the
deadlines for their work. Virgin Media's leader provides support with the necessary resources advices
when needed in the organisation (Penn 2016). This leadership style can lead to the high job satisfaction
among workforce. This leadership can be suited best when the employees are self motivated and
skilled.
2.4 The ways to motivate staff to achieve objectives
There are various ways through which employees can motivate and inspire their employees to
do their work effectively. But, Virgin Media motivates its employees through Maslow’s hierarchy of
needs theory. In this theory, there are five needs which should be fulfilled in motivating the employees.
The first need is Physiological needs which includes water, food and clothing but in context to the
employees, the company is offering the job which is the first necessary for the employee (Pilbeam,
Jenkins and Adam-Smith, 2012). Second is safety needs in which the firm is taking the responsibility
to safeguard their job and the individual in form of salary and wages. Moreover, the third need is
friendship and formal relationship with the colleagues and superiors so that the employee feel
comfortable and done their work effectively. The fourth needs is all about the esteem and status needs
in that employee wants, he should be recognize by the others and for that company motivate and give
confidence by providing promotion to him. Furthermore, In this, employees able accept the facts and

(Pereira. and et.al., 2015).

they will do the work more efficiently.

employees. This theory will give same solution to these three levels of management that is Directors,
Managers and Supervisors (Dugan, 2011). It will helps them in giving their job, securing the job and
assists them in giving promotions and try to realize them for self actualization. The management will
need only that type of motivation which helps them in perform well in the firm and accomplished the
organizational goals.
D1
As working as the store manager, I should motivate my subordinates so that they perform well
give best results in fulfilling the objectives of the organization. The manager comprises of one of the
management style which they incorporate in their business life to possess as the good leader. The
qualities of the democratic leader is to make decisions by the support of the subordinates. In this,
leader encourages their employees (Penn, 2016). Whereas, in laissez-faire, the employees and leader
are not that involved in the decision process and makes decisions individually. I believe that

decisions are made accurately.
