INTRODUCTION
The management is the art of getting things done through other. Without managerial
function the firm is not able to undertake business activities effectively. The present assignment
is based on the activities of Tesco. The report will cover the following activities as are autocratic,
democratic, Laissez faire and other kind of management style and characteristics of leader order
to enhancing the knowledge about the manager things. The main objective in this relation to
review the potentials' aspect of manager. With the help of this the managers of the firm can
undertake the business activities in the expertise manner.

1.1 Description on management and comparison of management styles.
1. Define the term management.
Management- The term management is the process of dealing with or controlling people
or things in the organization. It is very helpful in order to accomplishing the certain goals of the
business enterprise. The management is the process which is made up of following activities as
are handling, directing and controlling the function of business enterprise so that firm can able to
undertake the process of firm in expertise mode. The management of Tesco is very flexible as
there are various number of employees who are working together in order to achieve the
particular aim of the enterprise. The authority is one of the management principles it works in
relation to get things done in the organisation. The management has the authority to give the
order to their employees so that they are able to conduct the operation of the firm in the effective
manner. As per the Henri Fayol, the power and authority function is giving the right to the
subordinates. The authority is need to be given in order to undertake the process of the firm.
There is need be balance between the authority as well responsibility. With the help of this the
employees to the enterprise can perform its business activities in the well and effective manner.
2. Comparison between various management styles.
There are various management styles which are very important for the leader the business
enterprise so that they can undertake the activities of firm in effective manner. These are defined
in the following manner as are-
Autocratic style- under this style the managers makes the decision on the basis of the
unilaterally. This kind of decision can reflect the opinions and manager personality in order to

carry the activities of the firm effectively. There are two types of autocratic style of leader as are
direct dictator make the decision on the unilaterally manner and close supervise subordinates
liberal dictator make the decision unilaterally but in this the attitudes of subordinates carrying out
the activities which has given. This kind of the management style is helpful in relation to
performing the task of the organization in the effective and efficient mode. These kinds of the
leader typically makes the choice which is based on the activities are as ideas and judgement.
This is helpful in relation to accomplishing the desire aim of the enterprise.
Democratic- under this the manager allows employees to take their involvement in the process
of decision making. The process of communication is widespread in both of the directions. This
kind do style is need to be adopt when in the firm complex decision are need to be made. These
kinds of leader can be known as the participative leader or shared leader to the firm. In this the
number of the group takes the participative role in decision making process.
Laissez faire- This is the kind of delegative leadership style. This is the stile which works as to
hand off and allow group members to make the particular decision in the enterprise. In this
leader works as to allow the group member to take the important decision of the organisation.
Directive- the primary objectives of this style is to have immediate compliance from employees.
This kind of leader can closely control the employees of the firm.
1.2 Description on the leadership characteristics.
The leader is the person who works as to lead business activities in efficient mode. The
characteristics of leadership are defined in following manner as are-
Interpersonal skills- The interpersonal skills are those skills which are used by the leader to
make the interaction with others in properly manner. This is the ability to communicate well with
the other individual in the firm. With the help of providing the training facilities the interpersonal
skills of the person can be developed. For example- The staff of hotel Hilton are providing
effective training facility with the help of which the employees of the firm are able to make the
proper interaction. The receptionist need to make better interaction with customer of their hotel
this will be helpful to have increment in the customer retention rate.
Communication skills- The communication skills plays the greater role in relation to
communicates to the variety of people with the help of eye contact. This is helpful in order to

of employees. The common type of organisational hindrances as are- rules and
regulation. Complexity in organisational structure etc.
Own management skills performance depend upon the understanding and vision that is looked
towards goal. Planning must be planned throughout and it must be applied to the actions .
Always try to get feedback of planned and performed actions. Criticism should be ignored and
forward step must be taken instead of looking back. Discussion must be done with colleges and

This is one of the effective tool in order to measure the performance of business
enterprise. This is defined in following manner as are-
Specific- I want to enhance my practical knowledge so that I can undertake the activities of the
firm in effective manner. With the help of this I can build my career and lead successful team.
Measurable- I will join the training programme of one year so that my practical skill can be
developed.

not easy to set any goal, goal should be selected according to the situation and condition so that it
can be achieved easily. The most important is the evaluation of process and outcomes related to
