Introduction
Main aim of this report is to better understand the concept of leadership and management
skills. Both the skills play an essential role in the growth and success of an individual. With the
help of effective leadership skill an individual is able to guide and influence the behavior of other
people towards the achievement of common goal. While on the other hand effective management
skills will help an individual to effectively and efficiently manage the various activity related to a
specific work and achieve the goal. Both the skills are very important for both personal and
professional life, as having these skills will assist an individual to get the future desire job and
achieve higher success in future. This report is based on the self-reflection and for that Boyatzis
theory of self-direction is used.

I effectively understand the concept of leadership and management & I realize that these
two skills play an essential role in both the personal and professional life. I analysis that by
developing these skills I am able to gain benefit of various available opportunities. By
developing these skills I can effectively manage the other team members and also manage the
whole work and efficiently achieve the goal. For effectively analyzing the gap in my knowledge
and developing the leadership and management skills in a better way I will use Boyatzis theory
of self-direction learning. This theory will help me in effectively analyzing my strength and
weakness and guide me how can I develop my leadership and management skills. This theory
will include various important steps which are discussed below:
My ideal self- This is the first step of this self-direction theory which help me in
understanding my dream that is what I want to be. I realize that I want to be a good manager in a
reputed company and for that I will require to develop my leadership and management skills. I
analysis that if I want to achieve higher growth and success then I need to develop both these
important skills. By developing these skills I am able to gain benefit of various opportunity for
my future growth and also achieve my desired job in future.

My real self- After analyzing my requirements I realize that my leadership and
management skills are not so good. I remember when I participate as a volunteer in the school
annual day ceremony, I was fail to manage the work properly and also I am not able to guide my
other team members related to the work. At that time I realize that my leadership and
management skills are not good and I need to develop these skills for better result. I realize that
there is a big gap between my actual leadership skills and my ideal leadership and management
skill.
My learning agenda- After analyzing the difference in my actual and ideal skills I will
take various effective actions for removing this gap and effectively develop my leadership and
management skills. This step of self-direction learning theory will assist me in analyzing how I
can develop these skills. The first step that I will take for developing my leadership and
management skills is to attend various online and offline seminars and effectively analyzing the
behavior and way of speaking of speakers in that seminar. I realize that these speakers have the
capability to influence the behavior of other and help in motivating other people. After this I will
join a mini workshop project through which I am able to develop my leadership and management
skills. I also read various books on leadership and management which assist me in effectively
developing my skills and knowledge. Within a time frame of 3 months I realize that my
leadership and management skills are fully develop and know I am able to use my skills for
better results.
Experimenting- After successfully developing my leadership and management skills I
will start testing my skills and for that I will organized an small event in my college and I realize
that this time I will successfully guide and motivate my team members and also provide right
direction to them related to the work. With the help of my management skills I will effectively
and efficiently manage the whole work of this event and successfully achieve the goal. After this
experiment I realize that my leadership and management skills are fully developed and now I am
able to manage every work and also guide other people towards the work.
Developing trust relationship- I realize that by building good relation with my friends
and teachers I am able to develop my skills. As my teachers will inform me about the various
source of online seminars and workshop from where I will develop my leadership and
management skills. Other this my friends will always motivate me towards reading various

the object of a specific task. From this report it is analysis that an individual will develop these
skills through attending various seminars and reading books of leadership and management
which help in developing these skills effectively. This report will include the Boyatzis theory of
self-direction an individual will effectively analysis its strength and weakness and able to
