INTRODUCTION
The leadership is basically defined as a ability and capability of individual which is used
for motivating and encouragiung employees within firm. Due to effective motivation lower level
employees are able to put full effort in their job role which leads to enhance the success rate of
company at large scale. But management is refer to controling a set of entities or group for
accomplishing a goal and task in time. The chosen company is TESCO for understaanding the
concept of leadership and management (Bäcklander, 2019). The company was established in
1919 and the head office of this firm is located in United Kingdom. This company is dealing
with wide range of products which includes grocery items, home appliances, furnitures,
telecommunication and others. The report will cover brief introduction about chosen company,
review of leadership and management theories and models. It further covers the review of your
own experience of leadership and areas for your own development.
TASK
Brief information about the chosen organisation
Here the choosen company is TESCO and it is one of the biggest retail based company in
UK. The company is dealing with wide range of products which includes home appliances,
grocery items, books, furnitures, telecommunications and so on. Due to dealing wide range of
products the profit and market share of organization are easily sustained in market for long time.
The company was established by Jack Cohen in 1919. The main objective of this organization is
to facilitate high quality product and services to customers with affordable price in long time.
Due to providing their goods and services to them in low or average price firm easily sustained
strong positive relationship with all customer segment for long time.
Review of leadership and management theories and models
The leadership theory is one type of tool which is used by manager within organization
for sustaining the performance and productivity of employees effectively. This theory is mainly
focusing on the behaviour and traits in which people can adopt for enhancing their leadership
capabilities. The various types of leadership theories which is applied by the manager of TESCO
for controlling the employees and also for ruinning the activities of firm effectively are -
 Participative theory – In this type of theory the manager or leader is maintained open
and friendly relations with their employees. Due to the lower level employees are take

part direcly in the decision making of the higher authority. In context to TESCO, due to
follwing this theory the manager are able to identify the real problems of their workers
quickly. Because according to this theory employees are able to share their problems
freely with their manager without any type of hesitation for long time.
 Contigency theory – It is little bit different from above mentioned theory because in this
theory the behaviour of the leaders are changed according to the situation. Due to
changing behaviour of the leader the employees within organization are not able to share
their real issues freely. In context to TESCO due to the effective use of this theory the
misconduct activities of employees are highly decreased in the business activites because
here manager maintain his behaviour in strict manner with them.
 Power theory – It is also a one type of theory which is utilized by the management of
TESCO for controlling the employees in effective manner (Bagdadli and Gianecchini,
2019). Accordig to this all powers are comes in the single hands, which is used by
manager for fulfilling the job roles and responsibilities of employees in effective manner.
The biggest drawback of this type of theory is that here the maain focus of manager is to
enhance the profit of firm in any way with help of workers.
The management theories is basically a combination of various ideas which is used by
firm for developing the strong rules and regulations. With help of various rules and regulation
company is able to run their activities in smooth manner. The various type of management
theories which is applied by the organization are described below -
 Scientific management theory – This theory was developed by Frederick Taylor and
this type of theory is highly effective and suitable for orgaanization. This type of theory is
mainly focusing on maintaing positive and firndly relationship with lower level
employees. Due to keeping friendly atmosphere in workplace area employees are able to
perform their job role with full interest and passion.
 Bureaucratic management theory – The bureaucratic management theory was
developed by Max Weber. This type of theory is focusing on the various rules and
regulations which is developed by organization. The main motive of using rules and
regulation by company is to sustain the discipline of employees in workplace area and
also for accomplishing the task in time.

reliable data to their workers and due to this they are easily accomplish their task in attractive
and systematic manner. Due to the effective use of leadership theories the employees get easily
encouraged and motivated in their job roles at maximum level.
In aspect of management theories such as scientific, bureaucratic and system
management theory they also plays the cruciual role for sustaining the performance of employees
at higher rate. In context TESCO they applied these theories for facilitating advanced training to
their workers. Due to effective training employees easily enhance their abilities and skills at
maximum level which leads to increase the revenue and goodwill of company in market for long
time. With help of considering these theories the management of TESCO is required to maintain
positive work atmosphere between ermployees. Due to this the lower employees easily share
their real issues with higher authority without any type of hesitation for long time.
It has been analyzed that from above theories participative and scientific management
theories are suitable for TESCO. Because according to these theoreies managers are focusing on
both welfare of employees and profit of organization. Due to this the positive relationship
between employees and employer are easily sustained in long term. With help of these theories
organization is able to provide right direction to their workers regarding their job roles and
responsibilities. In this way company always facilitates best quality service and products to
cusatomers for long duration.

A review of your own experience of leadership and areas for your own development
During the time of my professional career for some time I faced lot of problems for
during various types of task which is assigned to me. Because at that time I fulfilled the role of
manager in company and during that moment I realize that manager has lot of responsibilities in
organization. In my professionl career I effectively understand that in which way task are carried
by various departments. In professionl life I learn various new things which assist me to develop
my career in right directions in interesting field. As an manager I conducted many roles with my
teaam members and this way I understand that where I am lacking. The areas or skill which I
realized and required to improve is that communication, IT, interpersonal skills, time
management, communication, managing workload and others. In aspect of communication it is
highly essential for manager to provide right and reliable information to employees in time. As
an manager with help of taking smart decisions I able to solve the issues and queries of
employees in time and due to this my positive image are easily sustained in their minds for long
time.
