order to improve their own capabilities and the abilities. Following are the different type of
leadership theories-
1. Contingency theory- This type of leadership theory gave emphasis on the particular
variables of the environment which means there should be a balance between the needs,
behaviours and the context. The leaders should be able to maintain the proper balance
between all these variable and should also motivates the other people or the team
members. The leaders must identify the needs or the requirement of the followers and
then analyse the situation and after analysing adjust the behaviours according to the
situation (Sy, and van Knippenberg, 2021). So, this theory works on the various
variables such as qualities of the team members, leadership styles and also the aspects of
the situation. For example Tesco and the Marks and Spencer companies leaders follows
the contingency theory in order to motivates the workers and also to achieve the goals of
the organization.
2. Situational Theory- This theory focuses on the actions of the leaders that it should be
based on the situations and their behaviour should be according to the current situation.

situation For example- Sometimes in a situation authoritative style of leadership work
where the leaders are experienced and skilled and on the other hand democratic styles of
leadership works more effectively (Lord, And et.al., 2020). The leaders or the managers

organization according to the current market situation. These companies adopt the new
technologies and tries to make changes as per the need of the situation by using the
situational theory.
