INTRODUCTION
Managers are the people who are responsible for getting various activity completed
efficiently with coordinating with various other people and achieving the organisational goal
through execution of basic management functions such as organising, planning, leading and
controlling with proper utilisation of resources both financial and human resources (Dzwigol and
et.al., 2020). In other words it can be said a manger is a person who supervises both people and
activities with a given company effectively and efficiently.
MAIN BODY
A manager is a person who is responsible for a part in an organisation. It is the person
who shapes the culture of the workplace and his teams in numerous ways. Managers perform
both leadership and administrative role in a company. If a manager wants to be effective in
performing his role, it is very important that he imbibes certain leadership skill so that he can
successfully lead his team towards success and makes them feel motivated, empowered and
inspired so that it enhances the efficiency of the employees and leads to growth of the company.
A manager should have certain leadership skills should be based on certain theories such as the
behavioural theory, great man theory, situation based theory etc. of leadership.
Behavioural leadership theory is a theory which suggests that leaders are not born
successful but they are created on the base of their learnable behaviour. It focuses on how leaders
behave and copies the traits from other leaders (Brohi and et.al., 2018). It provides managers
with an advantage that they can learn and decide the action they want to implement to become a
kind of leader they want to become. Although I am not a born leader but with the exposure and
experience I can learn the good leadership traits of different leaders and imbibe those skills so
that I can perform the role of manager efficiently and effectively.
Democratic leadership theory suggests that employees must be directly included in the
decision making process of the organisation (Caillier, 2020). It is a theory where everyone is
involved in decision making related to the team and the organisation, with the leader being
simply taking charge. It provides manager with an advantage of creating an environment where
the employees feel motivated and engaged as they are directly involved in decision making
hence increasing their performance efficiency. With my effective communication skills I can

create an environment where employees feel free to give an honest thoughts and suggestion. And
which will also result in a higher teamspirit and unity between the employees.
Relationship theory of leadership focuses on leaders who are concerned about the
interaction with their employees. It is very important for manager to focus on making work
enjoyable for its employees and creating a positive environment by building relationship with its
subordinates and employees. And this results in building the confident and trust of employees on
their manager. I can easily socialise with people and can built relationship with them
easily. .That is with my communication skills I can built relationship with my employees and
create a positive environment and can inspire my employees and provide them guidance to foster
growth in them. In my earlier job at APS corporation as an assistant manager I used to attend
phone calls of clients and provide them better customer service, building a relationship with
them. And also, I used to coordinate with different teams of the department and building an
environment where there is coordination and teamspirit.
Similarly management theories are a collection of ideas that recommend general rules for
how to manage an organisation. It helps managers to apply different concepts from management
theories that suits the organisational culture and the employees (Ferreira, 2018). There are
various theories of management which a manager should keep in mind while performing his
duties
According to the principle of administrative management theory, a manager has six main
function, to coordinate, forecast, control, develop and command (Church, 2020). In my personal
experience of being manager in WRP corporation for 1 year I used this theory of management
which resulted in increased collaboration amongst the employees, also improved their
performance with increasing the productivity of the company. And mainly it helped in
simplifying decision making that is it speeded up the process of decision making and helped me
in performing my role effectively.
Scientific management theory is a theory which enhances the economic efficiency,
especially labour productivity (Su, 2017). It is considered one of the best theory of management.
Earlier when I used to work as an Assistant manager in APS corporation, management used to
apply the scientific theory of management, which helped in increasing efficiency, faster decision
making process. But on the other hand it resulted in demotivating employees and also increased

the level of absentism and also strict and a bureaucratic environment it resulted in dissatisfied
employees and which resulted in increased employee turnover rate. s
This changed my understanding for management that I used to think that an autocratic
and a bureaucratic environment is necessary for increasing the efficiency of the company and it
important for growth of the company. But now with my understanding and experience in two
different organization I can see that an environment which is more democratic and less autocratic
is essential for a successful running of a business. As it increases collaboration, higher
teamspirit and motivated employees which will automatically result in increasing the
productivity and will lead the organization towards growth.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that manager is a person who shapes the culture of workplace and his team in
various ways. To perform the manager role he needs to imbibe certain leadership and
management skills based on the theories. It can summarised that I have a leadership as well as
management skills which are required by a manger to perform his duties. With my skills I can
create a positive environment increasing the efficiency and productivity and leading the company
toward growth by achieving both personal and organisational goals.
