INTRODUCTION
Operation management is the area of management concerned with the designing and
controlling process of product and its production. It is administration of business process and
practices creating the highest level of efficiency with the organisation. The present study is based
on the “ Sainsbury bank” which is the British bank in UK. That is provide the financial services
to client and their customers. Study lays emphasis on the define and compare different roles and
characteristic of a leaders and manager. The managers are playing their important role in the
organisation to motivate their employees as well as function of manager are help to make
effective strategies for growth of firm.

There are various roles leaders and characteristic of manager in organisation. They are
plays their important roles in Sainsbury bank. Management and leadership has effective and
valuable definition which are help to understand meaning of both that are as follows:
Definition of management
Management is the art of getting things which are done through and with people in
formally organized group. It is an individual or a group of peoples who are accept their
responsibilities to run an organisation. They are plan, organize, direct and control all the essential
activities of organisation (Kato, 2015).
Definition of leadership
Leadership is the art of motivating group of peoples to achieve goals and objectives of
Salisbury bank. In the business they are directing to peoples and staff with a strategy to meet

objectives within the organisation. Management by objectives outlines five major steps that
businesses must utilise for putting management techniques into practice. These steps are as
following –
1. The first step is to determine or revise business objectives for the whole organisation.
This overview needs to be derived from company’s vision and mission.
2. The second step is to translate objectives of business to employees.
3. The third step is stimulating participation of employees in developing individual
objectives.
4. Nest step includes monitoring employee’s progress.
5. The fifth and the last step is to measure and reward employee for their progress. This
stage includes honest feedback.

The roles of leaders and functions of manager has effective and valuable for company to
manage it effectively. That are applied in different situation such as further development in their
operations that understand by applying theories and concepts which are as follows:
The theory of Mintzberg management roles are shows the roles and functions of
manager in the organisation. That has three situation theories which are interpersonal,
informational and decisional roles of manager in management context. Interpersonal roles of
manager are important roles of leaders and also to functions of manager. Situation is

has role to handle project confidently and also involve feels a sense of security and right job
done by employees. Other hand manager determines the ultimate success or failure and also
communicate with range of peoples (hiffman and et.al., 2018). That are the interpersonal roles of
leaders and manager. Whereas, informational roles are also important because in that role of
leader which is indicate tracking changes in further development in operational functions. In that
manager has function to spokes to others and represent to team in meeting about the work done.
In decisional roles, leaders have role to take effective and valuable decisions for the company
growth and make strategies for work which are follows by their followers. Other hand function
of manager is to make the to run add more development strategies for growth and run to business
and also organized development program for maintaining it effectively and also allocate
resources for work.

The trait theory of leaders and style of leadership are as follows:
Trait theory
Leadership trait theory is focus on identifying different personality characteristic that are
related to successful leadership across any situation (.Yamashita and et.al., 2019). That is based
on the characteristic of leaders both success and unsuccessful of situation. This leadership theory
is helped to leaders in certain skills of an individual which is help to control and manage a
situation according to requirement. There are different styles of leadership are as follows:
Autocratic leadership style
This is one strong and dimensional leadership style that give full power or authority to
the leaders. In this leader take decision as per their own view not consult to any follower and not
to any one (Different styles of leadership, 2017).
Advantages of autocratic leadership
It helps in providing fast crisis management benefits
Decisions are made faster with this leadership style
Helps in removing pressure among on the employees
It develops focused objectives and targets for each and every individual
Disadvantages of autocratic leadership
There can be lack of accountability in its structure

Democratic leadership style
It is more participative in nature where leaders are involved team members in making
decision. This help to take decision very effectively because staff and team members have

This kind of structure motivate respect and trust among the team members
