Transformational leadership and the charismatic leadership are two most studies
leadership theories in contemporary leadership approach. Transformational leadership is the
most renown leadership theories that based on the capabilities of a leader to motivate the
team members to follow a operational change. In transformational leadership, the leader have
to make visions and goals to lead a team while having a rewording system for good performer
(Azar & Asiabar, 2015). Both appreciation and addressing the faults of the subordinates are
the key of transformational leadership theory. The charismatic leadership is based on the
behavioral characteristic of the leader that allows the leader to inspire the team member
through his or her own ability, dedication and efficiency. In charismatic leadership, the aim
of a leader is to be a ideal example for other team member. In charismatic leadership the
leader can motivate the subordinates easily by superior performance, without using the
formal authority of power (Cocowitch et al., 2013). The charismatic leadership can be very
effective is a saturated operational management, where the lack of employee engagement and
performance inefficiency have been found.
Monroe County Hospital is a medium to large size healthcare facility situated at the
Alabama, United States. This healthcare organization has 3 small health clinics situated at
distant locations across the Alabama (mchalbia.com., 2016). According to the last audit
report, this healthcare organization is facing multiple challenges in their employee
management and patient handling operations. The communication service of this hospital was
not well structure, which was causing several service delay, especially related to the doctor’s
appointment and diagnosis reporting. Hence the management was decided to incorporate
advance telecommunication network within the main hospital and the local clinics. However,
the existing employees are more relying on their conventional techniques in spite of having
training for utilizing the advanced system. On the other hand, because of increasing number

and target to fulfill, the transformational leadership will be able to reduce the resistances in
the change management procedure (Siegel, 2014). On the other hand, the charismatic
leadership will be very beneficial for improving the employee performance by enhancing the
employee engagement in emergency department. Through charismatic leadership, the leader
can encourage the subordinates to improve their working ability while communicating with
very cooperative and friendly approach. Besides, the leader can be the best example of an
employee in through showing great patient handling capability, active involvement in group
work, maintaining operational and informational integration (Dansereau et al., 2013). It will
allow the employees of the emergency department to be encouraged towards effective care-
giving while ensuring a comprehensive and effective teamwork.
