Chapter eight- Imposing sub citizenship shows the power dynamics play between the
Canadian and the indigenous peoples. Here the role of power creates a problem for the political,
and cultural ideal of universal citizenship. It is the inability of the Europeans to understand the
indigenous symbolic literacy that leads to an imbalance of power and thus creates constant
tension. Life for the indigenous and tribes was always a struggle for survival, and the Indians and
Metis of the West have always been involved in violent episodes of the power struggle. The
content of the chapter would provide useful information to the subject of power and its role.
