Leadership 1
Introduction
The term leadership describes the ability of the individual to influence the behaviour of
others in order to achieve common goals. Productive leadership shows optimism and
provides positive energy to the staff (Boyatzis, Rochford & Taylor, 2015). The further
paragraphs of report will reflect upon the effectiveness of leadership theories, style and
personal leadership history.
1. Situational leadership theory
In accordance to my views, the situational theory of leadership is the most effective for
managing complexities in the global economy. Under this theory the leader adopts different
leadership styles based upon the prevailing situation and development level of team
members. The main focus of the leader under this theory is to tell, sell, advise and delegates
responsibilities to the team members. This leadership theory is considered as the most
effective because under this the leaders adjust their leadership style according to behaviour
and skills of employees. The leader focuses on motivating the employees and creates
supportive environment which in turn increases the productivity of the company and helps in
retaining the employees for longer period of time (Nawaz & Khan, 2016).
It is considered as a flexible approach to leadership under which the leader manages the
uncertain and volatile business situations. This leadership theory allows the organization to
create balance in the dynamic business environment (Nawaz & Khan, 2016).

2. Charismatic leadership style
In accordance with my belief, charismatic style of leadership is the most likely one. The
charismatic leaders have the ability to articulate a compelling vision. Such leaders encourage
the behaviours of others through the use of communication, persuasion and force of the
personality. A charismatic leader comprises positive body language and effectively listens
and communicates with the subordinates. They have the maturity, empathy and knowledge to
take the favourable decisions for all (Oreg & Berson, 2015).
In response to the above leadership style, Steve Jobs is considered as best example of
charismatic leader. He has the vision and the passion to turn the dreams into reality. He
possesses the confidence and has the communication skills to persuade the subordinates and
integrate their actions towards the common goals. He has the ability to take risk and also
encourages the employees to develop innovative solutions for the organization (Western,
2018).
3. Personal leadership history
In my personal leadership history, I was allocated a team of six members in my
organization and was asked to collectively achieve goals of company. In order to achieve
group goals, I have used coach-style leadership under which I focused on identifying and
nurturing the skills of my team members to make them more committed towards the
accomplishment of the team goals. I have improved the strengths of the team members so as
to develop strong team and efficiently achieve the objectives of the company.
To increase the morale level of my team members I focused on applying transactional
leadership style under which I designed rewards for the team members for making them more
committed towards the goals. I also defined the roles and responsibilities of all the members

to provide them minimum-bare work and providing clarity in their job work. This, in turn,
helped them in avoiding ambiguous situations and further encouraging them to achieve the
goals efficiently.
I also possess the characteristics of charismatic leadership because I possess the ability to
influence the behaviour of the subordinates and encouraging their motivation to strategically
achieve the goals of the organization.
4. Differences in leadership styles
In my personal leadership history, I have used the combination of coach style,
transactional and charismatic style of leadership. The charismatic leadership style is different
from autocratic leadership style because under autocratic leadership style the leaders
influence the behaviour of subordinates through threat, punishment and anger. In contrast to
above charismatic leaders influence the subordinates through motivation and charisma
(Saleem, 2015).
I have also used transactional leadership under which I used rewards to motivate the
employees while in the transformational leadership the leader motivates its employees
through charisma and enthusiasm.
The transactional leaders are reactive and focus on relationships with the employees. In
contrast the transformational leaders are proactive and emphasise on values, needs and
morals of employees. The application of coach-style leadership is different from laissez-faire
leadership style because under this I have focused on developing the skills and strengths of
the team members while under laissez-faire leadership style the leader empowers the
members and allows them to do what they feel (Yahaya & Ebrahim, 2016).
