Question 1
As per the case study, the leadership team of the J&J Furnishing Ltd has become more
concerned regarding the customer’s perspective over the environmental impact that results
from its manufacturing and shipping process. In order to solve the problem and to achieve
their overall goals, the leadership team has implemented democratic leadership style within
the organization (Bamiatzi et al., 2015). The democratic leadership style also known as
participatory style of leadership where different ideas moves freely within the organization.
As J&J concerned regarding environmental impact and decided to focus on sustainability to
increase their profit, therefore with the help of democratic style, employees can freely
participate in the decision making process and accordingly synthesizing necessary
information into best ideas to achieve the overall goals. This leadership style is appropriate
for this particular organization, as for achieving overall goals, organization need to motivate
their employees and should also provide healthy work environments (Cunningham, Salomone
& Wielgus, 2015). This type of leadership style is best suited in the changing environments
and when the company J&J has planned to implement certain changes, democratic leadership
style is appropriate over other styles. Apart from this, this style will also increase employees
loyalty and as a result they will be more focussed to their work.
Question 2
In order to influence the project team, to achieve the overall goals of the organization,
the leadership team has selected the Pareto Analysis as an effective tool. With the help of
Pareto Analysis, J&J Furniture Ltd can increase their sales in the market. Pareto Analysis
helps in decision making process by analysing the problems that need to be resolved (Berman
& Wang, 2017). As per the case study, with the help of Pareto Analysis, it can analyse the

potential risk within the company and accordingly can resolve it, in order to remain
successful. By implementing this tool, the company understood that they need to upgrade
their technologies so that they can able to reduce their lost sales and can create better
efficiencies in the process of supply chain. Accordingly, the company resolved their issues
that results in increase in the supply chain and also cut down their manufacturing costs. Prior
to that with the help of this tool, the Manager analysed the growing environmental problems,
and decided to use alternative products that would cause less environmental risk. Pareto
analysis is a simple tool and gives positive outcomes as it helps to identify all the possible
problems, and accordingly the company introduced some project teams that will deal with
various different projects such as sales, marketing and legal procedures (Balogun et al.,
2014).
Question 3
As per the case study, the five types of power described in the Shenoy’s web article
includes legitimate power, reward power, expert power, punishment power and the referent
power. In case of managing the overall goals and objectives the J&J has decided to
implement those powers accordingly.
1) In case of influencing the project team, the best type of power will be appropriate is
the legitimate power, where the supervisor or the Management head will guide the project
team in order to adhere success. Accordingly, with the help of legitimate power, the project
team will report to the management regarding their duties and job roles (Nosenzo & Sefton,
2014). Furthermore, this would also help the company to take any major decision for
obtaining success.

2) Reward power is the most appropriate power that can be used in order to motivate
employees to work collaboratively within the organization. Reward in respect to increment of
salary, incentives, performance based pay and more will tend to encourage and motivate
employees among the team and thus this will help them to work collaboratively with other
team members.
3) In case of success of the project, the best type of power suited for J&J is the expert
type of power where the employees will be effectively trained to have better problem solving
skills and talents (Proctor, 2014). To achieve the overall goals, expert members will solve the
critical task with their ideas and skills and thus this will result in success of the project.
Question 4
It is important to note that the selected approaches that includes the leadership style
and the forms of power would help the organization to increase their sales and to reach out to
large number of customers. As per the case study, as the main concerned for J&J was the
customer perspective on increasing environmental risk, therefore with the implication of
democratic leadership style, the organization tends to persuade their customers and planned
for long term sustainability by reducing pollutants and by taking CSR activities by planting
more trees. Apart from this, with the implication of different forms of power, organization
tends to improve its strategic plan by encouraging its employees to work collaboratively by
providing them incentives and rewards, providing them training to use sophisticated
technologies. Furthermore, the team also decided to use alternate fuels instead of gas and oil.
(Tapia et al., 2016). This would result in higher profit and will also increase its suppliers.
Training should also be provided to the employees so that they can develop their skills in
solving critical problems and thus this would help to reduce disruption of employees within

the workplace. Therefore, all these approaches undertaken by the company helps to improve
its efficiencies and thus can increase the satisfaction level of the customers.
Question 5
As per the case study, being a project Manager of J&J, he should implement certain
steps so that the project team can work safely within the organization. While dealing with the
manufacturing process, the project team might face challenges to environmental risk such as
increase in carbon footprint. In such case, the project Manager should decided to use recycled
wood that would result in less environmental risk and can also deliver better products and
services to its customers. Apart from this, they have also decided to replant trees as an
initiative towards greener environment. The project team might face challenges in using
sophisticated technologies, the Manager decided to coach them regarding alternative
products and technologies in manufacturing process. With the help of risk assessment, the
management identified three potential risk and accordingly tried to reduce it so that it should
not damage the work environment. These steps are beneficial for J&J, as this would help to
balance a proper work environment, will reduce environmental risk, increase sales and
revenues of the organization.
