Learning outcome 6: lead or participate collaboratively in teams.
Engineering projects involve different teams which require proper leadership. As an engineer, I
have been involved in leadership of different projects. Leading the teams require proper skills
and management skills to ensure that the projects goals are achieved (In Bairaktarova, & In
Eodice, 2017). Over the past, I have been involved in project leadership at different capacities.
Once I was involved in a construction site where I was in charge of a team. At this capacity, I
was charged with designing the activities which the teams had to undertake each day. At this
capacity, first I had to select the appropriate team which has the relevant skills for the different
tasks. Therefore, I had to have investigative skills of the teams and professionals and ensure they
have the ability to deliver (Taylor, 2006). As a leader in the engineering projects, one is required
to possess key skills which will ensure collaboration of different teams are enhanced. For
instance, at my position, I had different professionals whom I had to coordinate and ensure that
they accomplished the available tasks on time.
So what
Leadership for engineering projects is important to ensure that their delivery is achieved. One of
the positive deliverable for proper and efficient delivering of the projects is leadership. The
managerial leadership ensures that different teams are able to deliver their different tasks on time
and lead to timely accomplishment of the tasks at hand (Drew, 2011). At the position as the lead
engineer, I was tasked will coordinating the teams and ensuring that the different tasks are
accomplished on time. The leadership at this position helps to determine the arrangement of
different activities which play an important role on the way they will be accomplished. The

coordination of the activities was able to play an important role in ensuring that the project was
accomplished on time. For instance, I was able to ensure that the different teams accomplished
their tasks as scheduled to ensure that the the other times where able to begin their tasks on time.
In addition, failing to lead different teams effectively may lead to stalling of the projects.
Engineering projects involve a process of successive processes which must be able to follow one
after another. Failing to organize the accomplishments of the steps is achieved by proper
organization and leading the different teams. The steps and different teams require the
organization and ensure that the project implementation is attained and done on time. Lack of
leadership skills at the teams will cause lack of coordination which creates unhealthy project
implementation. In addition, leadership helps to ensure task coordination is achieved. At times,
failing to lead and coordinate these teams may play critical roles in ensuring that implementation
is well done.

Proper leadership is important for any project. The leadership skills are available to enhance the
innovative nature of project implementations. Enhancing invention on project leadership can be
enhanced with proper collaboration of teams. This is a key aspect which is required to ensure
that different project steps are well coordinated. Addition, different professionals have different
capacities and this requires them to allow different leadership skills. To ensure proper leadership
for the teams, communication and leadership skills are some of the important skills which are
needed. To be successful, listening skills helps to solve different problems which emerge on
teams to enhance their performance.

In conclusion, to ensure proper leadership for cooperating teams is achieved, the team managers
must be able to first look at the strength of the team. Innovation and technological skills are as
well important in ensuring that the project is timely and without hitches (Dinsmore & Cabanis-
Brewin, 2011). The different skills for collaborating teams can be challenges for project
implementation at different times. These skills are important in understanding that the project
delivery is not about people but their knowledge and commitment in keeping the relations.

What
Critical self-review, self-management and life-long learning is part of critical processes which
happen after accomplishing tasks. After any activity, the process of self-review is important to
ensure that one is able to gauge their performance in relation to the expected outcome. Self-
review is able to look at ways which the project would have been implemented better than it was
done. Weaknesses and strengths are well analyzed through this process. As part of an engineer,
these are daily tasks which have to be carried from time to time (Shina, 2014). They ensure that
repeating of the same mistake does not happen. Weak point are identified through these
processes and rectified in other upcoming projects. Performance for the teams in usually
enhanced through these key processes. For different projects I carry out, I do personally carry out
these critical processes ion evaluating the project performance. Self-management also creates a
self-guidance environment for the employees and their seniors. The self-management helps to
create work schedule which will enhance project delivery taking different aspects into
consideration. Lastly, life-long learning experiences are what the other two processes are able to
lead to. They ensure that lessons are derived from the project implementation and improving the

processes is done. As a leader and engineer, the life-long experiences are important in enhancing
operations of different amenities. It helps in tackling of projects dynamics and solving problems.

Lacking these process will mean same problems will be repeated in each project. Efficient
delivery process depends on how better these processes are implemented after accomplishing a
project. Without, self-review, same mistakes which are costly will be experienced. T5he self-
review is a look back process which helps to identify where things went wrong and where they
were better performed. Additionally, the self-review helps to enhance the innovation and
improvement of processes (Berson & Benner, 2007). A better was will be instance be developed
to be able to solve a key problem. The solving process will involve improvement of current
processes as well being innovative. Looking back improves the performance of key in avoiding
the mistakes which are made.
Self-management is another key process which is involved in analysis of the project while under
progress. This helps to meet the different demands of project dynamics such as cost aspects and
timeline delivery. Once I was involved in building a team building with limited timeline. This
had to involve self-management of different employees and ensure that they were able to
accomplish their tasks. Failure to consider the importance of self-management would lead to late
delivery and making key mistakes.
What else
I was personally involved in these key processes and noticed that communication about the
lessons is important for the whole team. This ensures that the team is able to learn the way to
deliver similar projects. I am able to personally take my team through analysis o0f the projects

dynamics, lessons and challenges involved. This ensures that the project team has insight on the
way to enhance their operation with similar situations. I learnt that innovation is enhanced when
these three processes are considered in a project.
What now
I will also emphasize on implementation of these key process to any person under me. This will
ensure that the projects are able to meet their objectives and rectify any mistakes experienced. I8
will ensure that the teams are able to enhance their innovativeness and delivery of projects.
Learning from the past experience will be an important aspect which I will emphasis in anyone
in project delivery. I look forward to in cooperating better communication skills and
management skills to these three processes. This will ensure that the delivery and learning
process for the teams is enhanced.
