Leadership is the potential to influence the behavior of other individuals. It is the ability to
inspire, motivate, guide, and lead the subordinates for the fulfillment of the organizational
goal. An effective leader possesses multiple qualities and it includes honesty, integrity,
confidence, motivation, accountability, empathy, and many more (Curtis et al., 2011). These
leadership skills enable the nurses to display and conduct themselves in a professional
manner and provide effective guidance to other nurses to meet and exceed their goals.
Commitment and passion are the key qualities as it assists the leader to inspire and attract the
subordinates to the common objective. Commitment is the promise and agreement to work
for the achievement of goal whereas passion is the energy, excitement, and enthusiasm to
attain something. Both commitment and passion are necessary for effective leadership
(Huber, 2017).
Example: In nursing, high commitment and passion will promote health and wellbeing of
patient. On the contrary, the presence of high commitment and passion can go wrong as it
may result in emergence of dependent patients and it may increase burden on the registered
nurse.
Nursing leadership aid to improve the quality of care and enabling direct participation in
clinical care. The senior nurse should attain a high commitment to the work to emerge as an
example to other subordinates’ nurses (Im et al., 2012). The presence of high commitment
improves the quality of service rendered by registered nurses. It also aids in effectively
dealing with the patients and developing positive interpersonal relationships with them. It
assists in the early recovery of patients and positive reviews from patients. The availability of
high commitment leads to continuous improvement and it helps in easily fulfilling the
objectives of the healthcare center.

other nurses in health institutions. It will develop an environment of enthusiasm in the
workplace and it will develop a driving force among the nurses to raise their attention to the
