Education and academic knowledge form the basis of an individual's career. Through
the virtue of their academic knowledge and their hands-on experience and skill a
person will be able to scale great heights. This doctoral study in Leadership for
Quality Effectiveness and Safety in Health Care will provide an impetus to my career.
I would be empowered with the required knowledge provided in the Doctoral
programme and employ in my work area (Roberts et al. 2016). This would not only
be beneficial for me but would also increase my productivity.
The requirement for safety and quality management in healthcare in general and in
the organisation where I worked also motivated me to seek this doctoral degree.
Healthcare as a sector is vast and employs many individuals with varying degree of
skills and knowledge (Wickramasinghe, 2016). This sector also uses devices and
machines for diagnostic, therapeutic, administerial purposes. It becomes difficult for
people within an organisation to work their own duties and also ensure the
maintenance of overall quality. The patients and people seeking medical care are the
stakeholders who are ultimately affected as the quality of care being provided to
them in undermined in the process. Also, their safety is posed at risk when medical
professionals fail to provide the care treatment that is required. This course will
provide me the academic knowledge and skills required to maintain quality and
security within a care organisation.
The doctoral degree builds upon the knowledge that I have already acquired through
my academic degree and through my experience as a health manager. My latest
academic qualification is a master in healthcare Management. It makes use of
management, leadership and administrations to manage the proceedings within a
healthcare organisation. Modern healthcare systems employ many variables and IT
solutions to share the labour and work (Guo et al. 2017). Healthcare administrators
are positioned at the centre of a healthcare organisation and are required to unify the
work done in every department so that they can work in harmony.
Through the virtue of my academic knowledge I have worked as a manager in a
healthcare centre and also look over patient relations. My work experience has made
me realise that there is a need for quality and safety management in most healthcare
organization. As a manager, the pathways over which various operations and

proceedings in the organisation can be looked over are not smooth. Healthcare is
one sector, where constant monitoring and management system are required that
would allow any health professionals to access help in case of emergency. There is
a requirement of an information chain through which every person handling a patient
can be accountable.
I believe that my work as a manager was key for ensuring smooth functioning of my
department. I have the required skills like time management, accountability,
communication skills and I am able to organise the information provided to me.
These qualities will also come handy when in building leadership qualities in my
future workplace for establishing effective quality and safety management. I would
be capable student as I already have the experience and knowledge of working as a
healthcare manager and as a patient relations manager.
I have completed my masters and have embarked on a work experience. I have
gained substantial knowledge and have the required hands on skills that would
ensure that I am able to make use of the doctoral degree and put my learning to use.
The subject chosen for my doctoral degree is related to leadership and management
(Singh, H. and Sittig, 2016). I would like to point out that even with the required
knowledge about these two subjects, individuals need time and understanding to put
them in use. I was already employed in a managerial position that required me to
take the position of leader to guide and monitor their work performance. I feel that I
come equipped for the doctoral degree and through it would be able to use
implement my learning in action. My experience and area of academic experience is
related to the subject as well. Therefore, this period of time is most suitable for me. I
am still within the age where learning and information can be readily assimilated
(Birken et al. 2015). I have created for myself a stable position in the industry
through my previous work engagement and social skills which would help me to gain
a suitable employment quickly after I have gained my doctoral degree. This way I
would be able to better the working and management conditions that would help care
seekers in the end (Wilson, 2016). I would request the concerned authorities to take
the above-mentioned points in consideration and allow me the opportunity to make
use of this doctoral degree to get ahead in my career and provide high quality care
service to people seeking medical help. I was and will continue to be a hardworking
and capable employee of healthcare industry.
