Introduction
In order to evaluate self skills and abilities in achieving personal and professional goals
reflection plays an important role in evaluating the actions and decisions made while carrying out
a work so that self assessment can take place. Reflection must be continuously done so that
personal capabilities can be evaluated and both weak and strong areas can be identified which
can help in making improvement in weak areas so that continuous development can take place.
In this report a reflection is made based on the experience of working with a team so that a
common goal can be achieved on time. Also various theories and frameworks related to team-
building and business theories which can be incorporated will also be discussed in this report so
that effective team building can take place leading to efficient team work.
Main Body
Reflection is an important part of self development as it help in evaluating personal skills
and abilities so that effective strategies can be implemented which can help in making
improvement in weak areas so that continuous development can take place. While working at
Airdri Ltd which is a company located in UK and is a world leader in hand dryer development I
was appointed as a team leader in many projects so that I could work with team members in
achieving common goals on time. I recently worked on a recent project in Airdri wherein we had
to come up with a design of hand dryer which could help in improving the power consumption
efficiency of hand dryers along with their ability of killing germs and sanitizing the hands of
users. It is important that I analyse my skills related with team work which could help me in
analysing my ability regarding my efficiency of cooperating with team members so that work
can be completed on time and in efficient manner. During my work I tried to apply various
theories and frameworks related with team-building so that the team members can effectively
coordinate and collaborate and achieve goals on time. I used the Belbin model so that an
effective team could b formed which helped me in allocating roles and responsibilities among
members based on their skills and abilities so that they could finish their work on time and high
performance could be achieved. This helped me in allocating roles among members based on
nine roles determined by Belbin so that the team members can use their skills efficiently in
achieving goals effectively. The roles based on this model are shaper, implementer, completer-
finisher, coordinator, team workers, resource-investigator, plant, monitor-evaluator, specialist.

All these roles must be allocated among team members so that they can perform their work
efficiently which can help in completing the work on time and in a desired manner.
I also used the Tuckman theory which was developed by Bruce Tuckan in 1965 so that
the team building and collaboration among team members can take place effectively. Under this
theory there are four stags of team formation which help in integrating the work among team
members so that they understand each other and help in carrying out team work in an effective
manner. The stages which are listed in this theory are forming, storming, norming and
performing through the team members pass before coordinating their work and understanding
each other so that effective performance can take place. I tried to apply both the theories in an
efficient manner so that an effective team can be formed and the team members can work
together and help in achieving the goals of team. Based on the analysis of work done by the team
members it can be said that I was effectively able to implemented both the theories which helped
in completing the project on time so that a hand dryer was formed with more energy efficiency
and more power to sanitize germs so that these can also be used in hospitals and many other
places. I can however develop certain skills so that I can make more effective team in future
projects like the ability of being less judgemental so that the allocation of tasks among team
members can be done in an effective manner. Based on my prejudices I allocated tasks among
some member who were incapable of performing them in the manner which was desired. This
affected the overall quality and efficiency of work which can be made better next time by first
analysing the skills of team members so that allocation of tasks can become better. These
theories can thus be effectively used so that the team formation can take place effectively and the
members can develop understanding so that they can work together and achieve given objectives
on time and in the manner desired.
While working with team I analysed that I have certain strong areas which help me in
performing my role as a team leader in an efficient manner like effective communication skills,
influential skills, decision making, interpretation etc. All these skills helped me throughout the
project in collaborating the work among team members so that they can work together
effectively so that results can be achieved on time and in the desired manner. It is important that
effective conceptual theories and frameworks are effectively applied so that team building can be
made effective and all the members can perform their roles. I also used participative leadership

team members to participate in decision making by sharing their ideas and opinions so that
effective decisions can be made by everyone's consent. This helped me in improving the quality
of project as various ideas were considered before taking any decision which helped in
enhancing the quality and effectiveness of ideas shared. With the help of this style I was also
able to increase the efficiency of team members as they were encouraged to participate in
decision making which increased their value in the team work. Through my effective
communication skills I was able to share information among team members in an efficient
manner so that they could understand it in the manner desired so that effective decisions could be
made. I also used my critical analysis skills so as to analyse the information which can help in
taking decisions by considering both the positive and negative effects of decisions which can
help in making decisions which have positive impact on the overall project. Team building is an
exercise which requires effective analytical skills so that the problems can be analysed within a
team and efficient strategies can be implemented which can help in eliminating these problems
so that team members can work together in an efficient manner.
Based on my experience it can be said that I can improve my skills by applying Gibb's
reflective cycle effectively so that I can continuously learn and make myself a better team leader
in future. As per this cycle there are five stages which must be used so that continuous
improvement in self skills and abilities can take place. As per this model it is important to firstly
describe about the events that occurred so that the actions taken in such situations can be
evaluated. The next stage is related with feelings so that the feelings during the event can be
evaluated which can help in evaluating the thoughts and feelings of self during that event. The
next stage is related with evaluation which help in evaluating the positive and negative impact of
the decisions which are made during the events so that they can be evaluated based on their
effectiveness. The next stage is related with conclusions in which the effectiveness of the
experience can be evaluated so that the skills which can help in making such experience effective
can be developed so that next time similar experience can be made better. The final stage is
related with taking actions the next time similar event or experience occur so that the decisions
can be made better and experience can be made more efficient. This cycle can also help in my
continuous development so that I can become an effective leader and help the team in achieving
the goals and objectives effectively on time and build the team in such a manner that all the team
members are highly competent of performing the job roles assigned to them.

continuous development so that I can become an effective leader and help the team in achieving
the goals and objectives effectively on time and build the team in such a manner that all the team
members are highly competent of performing the job roles assigned to them.

Based on self evaluation it is important that I apply the model related with team building
in an efficient manner so that the team roles can be distributed among the team members
effectively and their work performance can improve. I can also apply various characteristics of
an effective leader like sharing vision among team members, demonstrating integrity among
team members, use of effective communication methods, recognising success, motivating and
inspiring team members, including them in decision making etc. All these characteristics can
help me in becoming an effective leader so that I can monitor the wok of team members in an
efficient manner. The application of Belbin model needs to be improved by me so that I can
allocate roles among team members in an efficient manner based on three orientations which are
action oriented, people oriented and thought oriented so that people having similar thoughts can
be grouped together in a team which can help them in performing similar type of functions in an
efficient manner (Bens, 2017). Following are the job roles which are based on these orientations
which can help me in becoming an effective leader:
Action oriented roles: Shaper: These are the people who help in improving team work by taking challenges so
that the efficiency of team members can be improved and the team results can be
achieved on time. I can identify such people as they are challenge acceptors and dynamic
in nature and can also work efficiently under pressure by dealing with all the types of
difficult situations (Boss, 2019). Implementer: These people believe in executing the ideas by taking effective actions on
time so that the work can be completed systematically and strategically and help in
achieving the objectives with which the team is formed. I can identify such people based
on characteristics like practical behaviour, reliability and efficiency in their actions etc. so
that they can effectively implement the actions.
Completer-finisher: These people are concerned about finishing the project effectively
by paying attention on smallest of details and completing the project within deadlines. I
can identify these people based on character like conscientious, anxious, search for
errors, help in making the project perfect etc.
People oriented roles: Coordinator: They help in guiding the team member so that their work can be
coordinated and they can be focused on achieving team goals in an effective manner. I

can identify these people based on the level of maturity, confidence and talent so that
they can be given responsibility of coordinating work among team members so that goals
can be effectively reached (Denda and Hunter, 2016). Team worker: These are the people who ensure that the team members work together
effectively and collaborate with each other so that an efficient and friendly working
environment can be built in team. These people can be identified by me based on the
level of cooperation, perception, active listening skills etc. so that they can help in
coordinating work among team members.
Resource investigator: These people are curious and innovative which help them in
finding various options of getting a work done. Also they help in developing contacts so
that external stakeholders can be dealt with in an efficient manner and objectives can be
achieved. I can identify these people based on characteristics like over-optimist, better at
making effective relations and exploring opportunities (Eys and Kim, 2017).
Thought oriented roles: Planter: They come up with new and innovative ideas related with completing a work
and also come up with various approaches of solving a problem so that the obstacles in
completion of project can be removed and project can be completed on time. These
people can be identified through the creativity and imagination skills of a person so that
problems can be solved effectively. Monitor-evaluator: These people can analyse and evaluate an idea effectively based on
their negative and positive impact so that an effective decision can be made. I can
identify these people based on the strategic thinking ability so that they can evaluate and
judge the outcomes based on decisions made by them.
Specialist: These are the people who have specialised knowledge about the area in which
work needs to be done so that they can use their skills and abilities in an effective manner
so that the goals can be achieved effectively. These people can be identified by looking at
the characteristics like single-mindedness, self-starting and dedicated so that hey can be
made the specialist of project (Hallur, Pillai and Joshi, 2017).

quality of project as all the team members can be given roles based on their characteristics which
will match with their abilities and skills of finishing work so that it can be completed in manner
desired. I can thus use this model by developing better understanding about the capabilities of
team member so that they can be given roles based on their strengths so that effective
communication can take place and flow of information can become effective. Also feedbacks can
be taken from the team members based on the efficiency of team leader in allocating work
among them so that the areas of improvement can be identified and their commitment in
achieving objectives can be achieved. Thus in order to improve my efficiency as a team leader it
is important that I improve my effectiveness of implementing theories like Tuckman theory and
Belbin theory so that the team members can be encouraged to work efficiently in team.
Motivational theories can also be applied by me so that the team members can be
motivated to use their skills effectively so that the goals of team can be achieved on time and in
the manner desired. I can make use of Maslow's hierarchy of needs so that the team members can
be motivated by fulfilling their hierarchy of needs like psychological, safety, social, self-esteem
and self-actualisation. These needs when fulfilled effectively can help in encouraging the team
members in using their skills and talents so that they can achieve team goals on time. During the
recent project I motivated the team members through executing my power so that they can work
in such a manner that the objectives of team can be achieved. I thus need to improve my skills
regarding motivating members so that they can help in achieving team goals on time and in
desired manner. This can help in making my team building skills more effective so that I can
form better teams in future so that problems in project can be solved efficiently and more
coordination among team members can take place. With the help of reflection I can thus identify
my weak areas so that they can be improved and my performance as a team leader can be
improved. The major areas identified by me which needs to be improved are analytical skills,
interpretation skills, better interpersonal skills etc. so that I can become a better team leader and
help in directing my team so that they can achieve the goals that are given to them on time.
Improving team skills will provide me with various opportunities in future as I can work on
projects as a team leader and help in coordinating work among team members so that the results
can be efficiently achieved within stipulated time and budget. This can help in making me a

Application of effective framework and theory is required based on the project and the
number of team members involved so that coordination among them can be increased and they
can achieve the targets given to them on time. It can also help in improving the efficiency work
done by improving the engagement of team members while making decisions. Team building
skills play an important role in both the workplace and in the environment of studies so that the
projects can be completed on time. I can improve continuously my skills and talents so that
effective tools can be used which can help in making team work more efficient so that the
objectives can be achieved on time.
Conclusion
From the above report it can be said that it is important to reflect on the work done by
self so that self evaluation can be done on the efficiency in achieving the desired goals in manner
desired. It can also help in determining the areas which can be further improved so as to make
future work more effective which can also help in the continuous improvement and personal and
professional development. This can also help in improving relations with team members as they
can be effectively motivated to use their capabilities in achieving company targets on time.
