Current roles, responsibilities and challenges
I have been working with a multinational company as an assistant team leader from the past few
months. The company has been operating in different countries with the help of different teams
working for the company. In particular this designation, I have to manage approx 20 people in
this team which was earlier 15 people (as five people are new joining). I have a team leader, to
whom I have to report for the team targets or achievements every day. The leadership journey
has been not considered easy for me since then the day I started handling this team. The job itself
is not considered as easy profiles for me. During my studies, I was found myself good enough at
leadership, but in work front, the situations were entirely different for me, and I faced a few
critical challenges as well.
Co-ordination was one of the most significant difficulties which I faced during the whole time
because co-ordination was reduced among the team and the more I tried to develop co-
ordination, the more I failed in starting few days, but later it was not that bad. Team development
is, again, one more challenge with whom I struggled much. Developing key competencies and
competitive behaviour to the team members was yet created many issues for me because the
motivation of the team members was shallow when I joined the organisation.

Key aspects of the leadership journey
Earlier during my studies, I thought that I could manage the team very effectively but later
during the job, I came to realise that things have been completely different but overall, I can see
my development as a leader now. This journey was not comfortable, there were many things
which I considered turning point for my leadership journey, but when I have to talk about, from
where the tour started, I would eagerly want to mention my teacher in high school. He was one
of the most favourite people so far. During the whole time in school, he influenced me each day
to perform better than yesterday. He tried to bring together each and everyone in the class, not
like others who only take care of those students who were good at studies. He motivated me to
go beyond my boundaries and feel free to participate in debates in school. I would say since
then, I developed a hidden desire to become a leader like him. Later during my further studies,
two of my friends once had some arguments, or I should say fight, and they both were not ready
for the finding any common ground to resolve that as well. A few days later, when I came to
know about the fight, I helped them out to resolve their conflicts and resolve the issues as well. It
was beneficial to them in solving the problems, and now they are still my friends since then. Not
only had both of them but also the rest of my friends told me that I am good at managing people
as well as resolving conflicts so far. There were few tiny events also, where I had to interrupt and
make them perform in a group such as in college during group assignments, I encouraged not
only my partners but also the rest of teams to not to perform individually, although play in an
organisation. The main turning point must be considered when I had to complete an assignment
with a complete stranger in college because I was not friendly with that girl and didn’t know
anything about her as well. Later I found out she was completely opposite than my nature which
made the things worst to work with her, but I had to complete my assignment where at first
attempt, I missed the opportunity to submit the assignment. We were not ready for any common
ground, but later, I started dealing with her using my leadership techniques, which were helpful,
though.

Summary of Part A (Results of Gallup strength finder)
Gallup strength finder is one of the helpful tools which helped to identify different strengths in
an individual. It includes 34 themes which indicate 34 different strengths of human beings. I
scored high for five strengths, which were harmony, Communication, Positivity, activator and
consistency. I was happy to find out these strengths because I was able to understand that these
would be helpful to me in future as a leader. Harmony will be helpful for me to resolve the
conflicts among team members, friends and family as well. It is one of the most important
qualities of leaders. As like harmony, communication is one of the most important things for
leaders because leaders should be good at speaking and listening so that they can communicate
effectively. In personal and professional life, things will be not positive always because there
would be many unpredictable situations in future which we have to deal in life. It is really
required that a leader stays positive with all the situations; then only leaders can spread positivity
among team members as well. With Gallup strength finder, I came to understand that I am a
positive person so far in my life. I always to try new things, whatever I find fascinating as well. It
helped me develop the strength of being an activator because I take a decision, take action, face
results and learn lessons itself. It helped me to develop new strategies for initiating difficult tasks
as well. The fifth strength was consistency, which will be helpful in order to treat people equally
and as a leader, it will be helpful to me to offer equal opportunities to the team members. It will
be helpful to increase the productivity and motivation level of the team members as well.

Feedback from partner
Firstly, I would like to thank my partner for helping me out the entire time, which was very
helpful as well. He wanted to work with me from long, and he felt happy when he had to respond
to my leadership style. He was a good guy, and I believe in him for choosing up a correct and
appropriate style according to my leadership styles. He knew me from a long time, so he had
knowledge about my skills, pattern and behaviours in various situations which helped him a lot
to choose most suitable leadership style (Peker, et. al., 2018). First, he recommended a
democratic leadership style to me, which was most suitable according to me because I was good
at communication, which would be helpful to me to make develop and better decisions. Later he
explained, as a leader, the biggest requirements are to develop team members, resolve their
conflicts among teams, increasing their motivation level and develop the skills of the teammates
in order to increase their productivity. He thinks I have some shown and hidden skills which will
help me to communicate effectively and make a strong relationship with others, which would be
helpful to me as a leader according to the democratic leadership styles. I was happy with his
choice because democratic is one of the favourite leadership styles, among other leadership
styles as well. Democratic is a leadership style where the leader who asks for the input,
suggestions and recommendations from the team members, it will be helpful to the collect the
feedbacks which required to collect before taking any effective decision (Hansen, 2018). My
skills as per Gallup strengths finders are harmony, Communication, Positivity, activator and
consistency which are best suitable for the democratic leadership style because I understand the
importance of team members and their efforts as well for successful completion of the
operational activities of the organisation.

The implications of the feedbacks and its significance
I was happy with the choice of leadership style, and he made for me. He chose democratic
leadership styles for me as per my strengths for leadership styles, which are harmony,
Communication, Positivity, activator and consistency. First, when I came to know about the
results of Gallup strength finder, I didn’t take those qualities seriously but when my partner had
to choose my leadership styles, then only I came to understand that those qualities or strengths
are the huge and noticeable part of my personality. Currently, when I am working with a
multinational company as an assistant team leader where I have to manage and control a team of
20 people. The feedback which I got from my partner in college was very helpful to me as it
shows me a path or direction of the most appropriate leadership style for me. When I joined here,
I came to understand that handling and managing a team will be the most stressful and difficult
tasks, especially when you have to handle team members who belong from different background,
cultural and behaviours as well. Some of the team members were fresher, and others had good
working experience in the organisation as well. Democratic leadership style will be very helpful
to me because it made me realise that the employees and team members were not only the big
and important part of the team but the organisation when it comes to achieving the goals and
targets of the company. In my professional life, I started organising small meetings and get
together of the team members who will be really required for the employees to develop strong
bonding with each other (Rao & Arora, 2018). Some activities and games were organised by me
during my time there; weekly meetings were organised in order to collect the feedbacks and their
recommendations, which helped me develop an understanding with the team members.

Theory and conceptual frameworks
During my entire leadership journey, I have understood and incorporate essential leadership
theories and frameworks to show me the proper path in my future as well. The servant leadership
theory will be one of the theories, which made a huge impact on my journey and experiences. It
helped me understand that a leader should act as a servant and try to help others in the best
possible way, it was helpful to me because it helped me grow as a human being and as a leader
as well (DeConinck, et. al., 2018). It helped me become available for the team members all the
time to help them, guide them and resolve their queries as well.
Transformational leadership theory is one of those leadership theories which made immense
impacts on my journey and helped me to develop and transformed as a good leader in future so
far. Being a transformational leader, it helped me to understand that my communication must be
clear with other in teams so that it would be easy to not only explain their roles and
responsibilities but also becomes helpful to motivate them (Hoch et al., 2018). This theory
helped me identifying the hidden strengths of me as a leader and those areas where I need
improvement so far. It made me realise that the as a leader my vision approaches, risk-taking
ability and inspiration would be helpful to the team members when it comes to responding to any
changes in the company (Turnnidge & Cote, 2018).
