This report investigates the impact of leadership styles on employee motivation within the retail industry, specifically focusing on Sainsbury. The study employs a qualitative research approach, utilizing an inductive research approach and thematic data analysis to explore the relationship between leadership and employee motivation. The report begins with a background on the importance of leadership in enhancing employee performance and motivation. It outlines the project's aim to assess the impact of leadership styles on employee motivation within Sainsbury, along with specific objectives such as understanding leadership concepts, identifying motivational strategies, and suggesting improvements. The literature review covers the concept of leadership styles, including transformational, situational, and democratic approaches, and their impact on employee motivation. The research methodology includes an interpretivism research philosophy, inductive approach, and qualitative research strategy, using surveys with 30 Sainsbury employees. The data analysis involves thematic analysis, and ethical considerations are addressed. The report concludes with a discussion of resources and an action plan, aiming to provide insights into how leadership can be leveraged to improve employee motivation and overall organizational performance within the retail context.
