1 Role of delegation leadership style in Virgin Group
Virgin group is technology focused organisation with 35 companies in different
countries. It is focusing on travel and leisure, telecom and media, health and financial services.
Delegation leadership is leadership style in which the manager provides task to their employees
and allow them to take decisions regarding their tasks. The manager is responsible for the
decisions which are taken by their subordinates (Johnston and Marshall, 2016). This leadership
style plays an important role in Virgin group as it strengthens the moral across the team
members. Role of delegation leadership style are defined as follows:
It ensures that team members are ready for taking responsibilities of their work. The
leader trusts its subordinates as they take responsibility to complete their work and take their
own decisions. In the organisation, delegation leadership helps in setting solid deadlines of the
work. The leader ensures that all the tasks are completed on time so that they can increase their
performance. It communicates the deadline of each project to its team members which helps
them to manager their work according to that.
This leadership style helps the leader to explain the things in right way. This means that
leader has to give proper explanation of their expectation from their employees (MacKian and
Simons, 2013). This will help them to know their goals and tasks which they have to achieve on
time. Proper explanation of needs of the project to the employees will assist them to take
effective decisions to complete their work.
Virgin group delegation leadership style helps them to prevent and control unusual
activities. The manager has to trust its employees while giving them power to make decisions
regarding their tasks and projects so that workers can work with more responsibility. This in turn
will increase their potential and performance. Further, the delegation leadership style help the
organisation to increase their productivity and sales as it reduces risks of burning out. The
workload on the managers and employees affects their health (Nahavandi, 2016). So, leaders
have to understand the problem and find effective solution to resolve the problems.
Delegate leadership assisted the organisation in concentrating more on growing their
business as the employees have trust on their company and putting their best efforts to increase
their productivity. Their skills and talents plays an important role in increasing the performance
of the company. Delegation helps the management to make plans, policies and coordinate and
control them. The organisation has to trust on their employees as well as management so that

they can make effective decisions and strategies which will help them to face their competitors in
the market (O'Connor and et.al., 2014). Delegation helps the leaders of the Virgin group to
manage their tasks and focus on other difficult situations. This provides them time to concentrate
more on completing their tasks as other work is handled by its team members. This increases the
ability and efficiency of the managers as well as employees and encourages them to work with
full devotion.
