Question 4: Journal discussion
Self-reflection and discussion of the insight with reliable one is an effective method to
identify the depth of the knowledge (Arslan & Staub, 2013). According to me being an effective
leader, it is crucial for me to take challenges and to make myself flexible at any working
environment. One of the most important things is to discard the weakness and to gives your
concentration on the strength. However, improving the skill is another essential element for a
good leadership. According to the popular view, it is important for the individual to develop their
existing skill and to adopt new skill to make them as an effective leader in their organization. My
major weakness that is identified by me is the lack of efficiency in the verbal communication.
Hence, as per the suggestions of my reliable person I have learned that adoption of alternative
languages and more interaction with the people within the workplace will be beneficial for me to
reduce my weakness. On the other hand, it has been addressed by me that active listening will
help me to understand the perspectives of the team members, which also enable me to improve
my communication skill. Therefore, a leader needs the ability to make the good decision during
any challenges, for this reason, it is important for me to take correct decision and a wrong
decision will spoil the entire performance of my team. I have got more ideas through the
discussion of my strength and weakness with my close and reliable one. I have found that
aggressive nature of the individuals may resist them to develop themselves as a good leader as
aggressive behavior build a barrier between the leaders and the team members that will hamper
their collaborative work. Moreover, it can be said for a good leadership hard working,
confidence and skill are the major there elements that are required by the individuals in their
professional life.
According to my perception, I have some advantages as well as some disadvantageous
qualities within me which might affect my position as a leader in many ways. As far as I have
been able to analyze myself, I feel that there are some qualities within me that might hinder the
process of my propagation, to begin with, I would like to talk about my lack of patience, which
fails me to execute my roles and responsibilities as a leader. I need to have a lot of patience
while dealing with not only my subordinates' but also with myself as well. I must know how to
maintain my calm while dealing the tough situations. As I am holding a high position in a
company, it is my prior response to organize myself first. I must know how to patiently deal with

all the matters. Another problem that I came across is lack of a good communication skill. I often
feel that I lack a good command over my language and communication skill, as a result of which
I often fail to deliver all the messages across the company and I also often fail to express to the
employees, the plans, and programs or any business strategies that are developed for the
betterment of the business. This creates in me a sense of guilt and I often get depressed thinking
that I am not at all suitable for working as a leader, but after sharing all these problems with my
best friend, I came to k now that his perceptions are different than mine. He, however, agrees
with me on the fact that I really need to work on my impatience. He suggested me to keep my
calm and patiently deal with every situation but however, he disagreed with his fact that I suffer
from poor communication skills. He says it is just because of my nervousness and my lack of
patience that makes me tensed and restless and renders m e unable to communicate freely and
properly with all my subordinates and my teammates.
As I work as a leader in my company, I need to lead a team of people under me who rely
on me and also come up with all their issues. Being a leader is no easy job. However, in my
course of work, I have recognized some of my positive aspects and some negative aspects as
well, which can affect my work in several ways. I have a good problem-solving ability. I am well
aware of this fact that, many problems will crop up in the course of business, and I will have to
face many obstructions both internal and external. But having a good problem-solving skill helps
me to face all these challenges and deal with them smartly, because I know that if these issues
are not faced and dealt with at right time and with proper measures, then they might be affecting
the progress of the company (Kulkarni et al., 2015).
Another plus point is my ability to work as a good and efficient team worker. I might be a
leader but before everything I am a team member like all others and I carry the entire
responsibility of the team over my shoulders, hence it is necessary for me to be able to properly
coordinate and cooperate with each and every member of the group. As I am at the position of a
leader, there are obviously some additional expectations that people have from me, they expect
me to keep my cool and listen to and solve all their problems. But as I often suffer from lack of
patience, I lose my calm and willingly or unwillingly behave badly with my employees, which I
have realized is a great drawback on my part. This has often earned me the b ad impression of
my juniors and my seniors as well. I also must keep my patience while interacting with my boss

and other superiors. Another problem that often causes me a huge problem is my hot temper.
Though I have often tried to maintain a proper balance on my temper I often end up in taking out
my frustration and my tension on work. As a leader, I need to know how to maintain a proper
balance between my personal and my professional life. I must under no circumstances bring my
own frustrations into work (Reilly, Dominick & Gabriel 2014). This creates a very bad
impression on work not only in behavioral issues but also in the way I deliver my work. It is also
because of my lack of patience, that I fail to communicate properly and clearly in the board
meetings. Being a leader, I must know how to communicate freely and transparently (Sturm et
al.,2014).
Having established my entire negative as well as the positive aspects, I must now
formulate some plans of how to utilize them. I have decided to nurture all my positive skills
further and work sufficiently to improve over all my negativities. As I am a good team worker, I
can utilize this scope a great deal and enhance my position as a leader. This, in turn, is a great
opportunity for me to deal with all my responsibilities. Similarly, my hot temper is a great
obstruction in my path of progression. This makes me react harshly with my colleagues.
Hence, utilizing my positive aspects will help to climb up the ladder of success in future and at
the same time, I will also have to work over my negativities and improve them.
