INTRODUCTION
In the modern day firms, there are several problems that exist in the work process. It depends
on the skills of the leader, how effectively they manage the issues (Kearns, Livingston,
Scherer & McShane, 2015). This report highlights the various skills that must be present with
the modern day leaders. It also presents the list of leadership skills that are required in
modern day leaders and shows my mastery on each.
Leadership skills
Skills Definition
Communication Skills It is crucial for the leaders to ensure that they have an excellent
communication skill. These skills not only mean to have
command on any particular language but to have overall
communicational skills. This includes behaviour and actions too
(Johansen & Voto, 2014). It is required for eliminating the
operational problems that occurs due to misinterpretation of
thoughts.
Motivational Skills A leader must be able to inspire the workers to work hard so as to
achieve maximum productivity from them. A leader must use his
experience and vision so as to motivate other (Doyle, 2018). In
this regards understanding the needs of the employees and
making plans to fulfil it, plays a very vital role.
Creativity It is a highly important skill that must be present with every
leader. This is helpful for finding new ideas and thoughts for the
business process. Creativity is also essential for the firm so as to
resolve the issues that are new to the business (Freeman, 2014).
Learning is essential in this regards as it helps in the development
of the creativity within them.
Directing One of the essential role or duty of the leader to direct the roles
and responsibilities to all the employees at the lower level. It is
the role of the leaders to ensure that all the work gets completed
on time. For this it is crucial that leaders direct all the members to
work in a particular manner (Gamble & Vaux, 2014). This would
also help the organisation in resolving the issues that are
confronting their business.

Research In this skill a leader must be able to obtain the information and
analyse on it so as to improve the decisions making. It is highly
essential in the modern day business environment where the
competition has increased to alarming level.
My mastery on these skills:
Communication: I as a leader have worked over the year on my leadership skills so as to
ensure that I could properly manage the problems that are confronting the business. I have not
only mastered in English and French Language but I have also worked on the non-verbal
communication which is crucial for understanding the people that are from different cultural
backgrounds. I have talked many a times with my subordinates so as to ensure that I can
understand the people under me.
Motivational skills: I have a good motivational skill which I use for when I have to improve
the performance of the others. For motivating people I use my command over different
language as well as the promoters like rewards and compensation. I always believe in using
examples while giving motivational speeches. I also take use of democratic style of
leadership so as to enhance the motivational levels of the people at the lower level of
organisation.
Creativity: This has also been my key strength as I have used my creativity over the years so
as to solve the problem that are arising in the day to day operations of the firm. This has also
helped me in making of the decision that will ensure long term growth of the company. I am
still working on it so that it can be reflected back in the decisions.
Delegating: This has been my strength which has helped me in distributing task to various
people within the organisation. I have also assisted them whenever required. I have an
experience of working with the people at every level. This has helped me in understanding
the problems that they may face and hence I am distributing task as per the skill set of the
employees.
Research ability: I have a very good research skill that has helped over the years in making
decisions that adds value to the decision making process. I take use of the information system
for gathering of data which I evaluate regularly so as to reach to any particular conclusion.

This has also helped me in developing new kinds of knowledge regarding any skills or in
other words it has helped me in my personal and professional development.
Conclusion
From the above based report it can be said that there are various skills that are required to be
present with the modern day firms. Every leader needs to work on certain basic skills like
communication, delegating, research skills, creativity and the motivational skills. I also have
certain amount of these skills present in my portfolio.
