Project management is the practice of initiating, planning and controlling certain work to
achieve set goals for a specific period of time. Projects are considerable organizational
developments where there is technological advancement making it easy to connect with people
worldwide.
Competencies important for project manager to possess
Every project manager must be able to communicate effectively; this is to enable him to
communicate well at all levels. It will help him explain the goals and aims of the project to each
of the members and executives. Strong leadership skills will positively impact a project, as the
leader will be able to motivate his team and maximize the performance. (Aga, Nooderhaven and
Vallejo, 2017) A competent project manager should have good negotiation skills. Differences
might arise during negotiations and he should be there to bring harmony and settle the issue.
Ability to initiate a new project and deal with the consequences that comes with it, it is an
evidence that one is a competent a manager. Inspired visions are the greatest of all times
(Costantino, F. Di Gravio,G., & Nonino,F.2015). As a project manager, one should articulate the
visions of his team members, ensuring to lead them in the right direction and adapt to any
changes that come by.
Project management brings everyone together; it helps to bring unity to the members. A
project moves from execution to closure and only then can a project end as planned. Projects can
also end due to money issues, or if a client has changed their mind. A project can also be
redefined to do less than it was meant to, or do more.
