Proper knowledge of policies and practices- To have the proper knowledge of policies
related to HR like workplace safety, compensation and performance evaluation. It is important
for employees and Hr to identify the best policy that are the most relevant to organisation.
P1.2 Own effectiveness against objectives
Effective communication is necessary for the development of an organisation. As a HR
manager I have set my objectives for improving communication within the organisation because
I know the importance of effective communication (Lim and et.al., 2016). It helps to facilitate
the process of sharing information and knowledge and also develop the relationships with others.
For example if teams are given a project with a deadline but they miss the deadline of submitting
project only because of poor communication then it will be effect customers, they will miss the
appointments and hence, the productivity and reputation of the company will be decreased. With
the help of effective communication these type of mistakes can be decreased or removed.
As a Travelodge's HR manager I lack in leadership but I know that it is very important for me to
maximize efficiency and achieve goals. Leadership skills include strategic thinking skills,
planning and delivery skills, people management skills, communication skills and innovation
skills. My planning and delivery skills are good which help employees to focus on the work and
increase the confidence of employees But sometimes I lack at some stages which affect the
employees and me. Most of the employees have some weakness in their workplace skills. proper
and appropriate training allows them to strengthen those skills that need to be improved and the
capacity to adapt the new technologies and methods. As a HR manager I should know that
increasing productivity with technology is only possible when the right tools are utilized. Using
the new techniques help employees to reduce the time on the other hand if I use the old and
previous technique on the work it can decrease the productivity.

P1.4 Motivational techniques to improve quality of performance
Motivation is basically defined as the need which requires satisfaction. The need can be
want or desire which has been acquired through influence of culture, society or lifestyle.
For improving the quality of performance Travelodge use the different techniques which are-
Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory – This is the most important theory of motivating
employees. This theory is based on the human needs which can be helpful in improving the
quality of performance.
Physiological needs- These are the basic needs of human that includes food, clothing,
shelter, air and water. In order to improve quality of performance, HR manager of Travelodge
can motivate the employees by satisfying their basic needs.
Safety needs- After fulfilling the basic needs employees feel the next need which need to
be satisfied. By cleaning the floors and by making the plan which promote the workplace safe
manager can fulfil their safety needs and make them feel safe (Rumane, 2016). If employees feel
themselves safe and healthy at workplace then they will focus on the work and it will improve
the quality of performance.
Social needs- It creates a feeling of belongingness and acceptance. Social needs are very
important to humans because they live around the people. Friendship, family and good
environment can fulfil their social needs so by making the friendly relationship within the
organisation HR can improve the performance quality.
Esteem needs- Esteem need refers the need for self-esteem and respect. By praising and
recognition for the great work of the employee, manager can motivate them which will be
helpful in qualitative performance.
6

Self-actualization needs- It refers to the need for personal growth and development. It
refers the growth of an individual towards fulfilment of the highest needs. It is important for
becoming the best. It can be achieved by regularly using knowledge of yourself.
Herzberg's two factor theory- Hygiene factors are those factors which are important for
motivating employees at workplace.
Hygiene factors-These factors include pay, fringe benefits, company policies, working
condition and job security. Salary and pay should be competitive and equal to those in the same
industry (Beckford, 2016). It is important and motivational thing by which employee can fulfil
their all the needs. Money is the motivator of employee productivity. Salary is the amount which
can satisfy their all the other needs so good salary will be helpful in improving quality of
performance.
Motivational factors- These factors include achievement, recognition, responsibilities,
growth and promotional opportunities. For example if company give their employees
promotional opportunity and by getting promoted to the higher level, employees will feel
themselves responsible and it will increase their morale and new employees will try to work hard
for getting promotion (Robinson, 2017). Recognition and appreciation are the basic human
wants. Employees feel valued when their work is been praised and appreciated by others that
help in increasing the quality of performance.
Advantages for motivating Staff
It is the most important task to motivate the employee's as this can support Travelodge in
enhancing the efficiency and productivity of them. This can allow an organisation to achieve
higher level of outputs.
TASK 2

Problem: Travelodge is suffering from various problems that includes unclear team roles, staff
turnover and unhealthy competition between the staff members.
Solutions to work-based problems:
Create positive environment- Some problems employees suffer from like unclear goals,
excessive workload, discrimination and insecurity for job. For giving the positive environment
company can motivate employees by recognising their hard works. For solving these problems
manager can give them benefits and rewards for making them secure for job.

Resolve conflicts- Conflicts arises in every company because of the misunderstanding,
poor communication, frustration extra. Conflicts can result in lowered morale, increases stress.
Unclear goals amongst goals also become the reason of conflicts and it leads labour turnover. For
the solution of this, manager will have to understand the reason of conflict and will have to listen
both of the side. By improving the communication and consulting with the employees it can be
solved. manager should try to listen everybody's point and problem as this will help to
effectively resolve the problems.
Employee satisfaction- Employee satisfaction is very important because it reduces
labour turnover which reduces costs and increase productivity. Employees does not get satisfy
with their pay and until they get a enough pay according to work. For the employees' satisfaction
manager can respect them and provide them security and healthy environment. By giving them
pay and benefits which will motivate them for working hard and will satisfy their all the needs.
Build healthy relationship with workers- Healthy and friendly relationship is important
for employees because they spent lot of time at workplace and it decreases their morale and they.
feel insecure if they do not get a friendly relationship((Van Eerde, 2015). ). These will increase
