around them in the hospital or social centers. Close and amicable relationship with team is

LEADERSHIP 4
Leadership and management involve lots of efforts by the people and then it results in a well-
managed and efficient care. Team leaders among nurses, doctors, counsellors and other
relevant teams at workplace, strategize a plan to reach their target that requires lots of
planning and mapping of actions and decision with respect to system and its requirement in
hospital or social organization. If required, the plans are altered, trial and error methods are
followed and firm decisions are taken in favor of society. A non-avoided situation and strict
actions are the most courageous task a leader has to take as it creates lots of dilemmatic
situation professionally and sometimes personally. To ensure the smooth and hassle-free
working of the system, opinion of all the teammate are recorded and taken care of while
taking any decision. The whole process of the leadership and managing the team and system
is scientifically termed as problem solving method. These qualities are required in each and
every department such as among nurses, doctors, housekeeping department rather than just
administrative department. There are standard which can deduce the probability of
organizations success based on the decision making and leadership quality of the mangers or
team leaders.3 Leadership models have significant effect on working of the system. It helps in
building the base and helps in operative planning of revenues, finances and the resources.
There are majorly five types of models.
Autocratic Leadership model4 works on the idea of chain of commands given to the juniors
by their seniors or by the team leader to their teammates in an organization. In this model, the
top management authorities take the final decisions, irrespective of the majority or minority.
Regardless of the opinions or decisions by rest of the teammates, the decision maker is solely
the leader. However, this model is considered dull and poor, as it does not follow the idea of
team building which is crucial in healthcare and social organization. This model fits in the
scenario where the decision has to be quick and immediate as in case of medical emergency
due to accidents or critical conditions, and the final verdict by the senior surgeon or leaders
among them is taken into the account.
Laissez-Faire Leadership model5 is in contrast with the autocratic model as the decision-
making responsibility is totally on the teammates. Each and every member’s opinion is

considered and the decision is taken keeping every major idea and opinion in mind. The
teammates are monitored regularly to observe their quality and quantity of work and
professional individual growth such as in a hospital nurses are observed on work quality and
patience. This model helps in building the understanding among leader and teammates, which
helps to achieve organizational targets effectively.6
Situational Leadership7 is dependent on the real time scenario or condition of the employees
and the team as a whole. It is more likely to be dependent on the current situational phase of
the organization, whether its lacking in its targets and services or whether its ahead of the
targets and earning considerable profits. It screens the strengths and weaknesses of the team
and its members followed by the operational decision-making methods and practices to
resolve the issues.8 It focuses on the capabilities of the team and sets realistic goals which are
approachable. This is well fitted for social sector as their plans and actions involves focusing
on availability of limited resources. This model is considered highly beneficial for the
organization’s growth as it is based on the realism and not on mere false expectations9.
Shared Leadership model10 claims that the power and strength of the group resides in the
team itself rather than in the individual member. It helps in fostering collaborative spirit
among teammates. It also helps members to enhance their mind creativity and idea generating
capacity as it gives ample of opportunities and encourages them11.
Benefits of Team
Team building and management is crucial and helps in construction a stable and strong
platform for the organization. Teamwork is actually important as it helps in creating and
understanding a shared pair of bonds among the team members and hence helps in achieving
the same professional goals excellently. Health and social care come with responsibilities and
duties that cannot be neglected and rigidness must be followed throughout the work
especially when it comes to care and rehabilitation workers.12

The team leader strengths the team by providing unbiased decision, openness towards
changes, acceptation of opinions and views from juniors or collogues. This in return results in
cooperation and enhancement of complementary skills among each other. These are some
unspectacular traits but are true traits of a leader and should be furnished during their career.
The healthcare and social care sectors are non-profit organization which is either government
funded or run by trustees, who look after the finances without expecting return or profit for
the social cause. Therefore, they have a different set of benefits when compared with the
profit-based organization or in other words businesses who look for profits on each and every
investment they make into the market or corporate world. Teamwork in a non-profit
organization has to handle several challenges such as constant changes in the government
policy, they need to consider the multiple opinions and views of the organization’s
stakeholders and trustees and sometimes have to manage scarcity in resources they possess.
However, these hurdles and issues make the team robust and strong and results in several
benefits such as it helps in providing assistance to other teammates. Application of variety of
skills in a project is an aid as all the teammates has different opinions and idea in their mind
and when all these idea gets amalgamated; a unique and full-fledged solution can be created.
It helps in solving the complex problems with ease since it requires multiple concepts and
thoughts. Moreover, it enhances communication skills which is crucial while explaining the
medical terminologies or practices to the patients who possess less understanding about it and
creates an impact on the work.13
Coordination in teamwork in healthcare sector involves the medical professionals, nurses and
organization’s managers while in social sector involves financial donors, managers and
government representatives. They work together as a team to provide best of services to the
community and its people. They also work together to bring out the health campaigns and
promotional events in the community.14
Apart from this there several reason which signifies the team building in the healthcare
system. Firstly, since the medical technologies and methodologies are getting updated every
now then, so it makes it little difficult to grasp everything for everyone, and here the team
work comes in play which makes it easy to segment out each individual’s share of knowledge
and learning among their teammates and hence saves extensive efforts and time to great
