INTRODUCTION
Management is the art of controlling, processing, organizing, directing the organization in
order to attain the objective. In Sports industry management has become a necessary requirement
as it will help the companies to make a better management of sports instruments and events. In
this report, Motor-sport Industry Association is taken into consideration. This organization is
based in UK and is a global trade association for the motor-sport industry. This report includes
nature of MIA, impact of the external factors and internal factors on management and
performance of organization is explained. In addition to this, after analysing the leadership
behaviour of an entrepreneur in the sports industry, impact of the leadership style on the
performance of organisation is also explained.
TASKS
1. Nature of the organization
MIA is the global trade association for the motor-sport industry within UK. UK is one of
the most favoured nation for the motor-sport industry. It has been estimated that 75% of the
motor-sport research and development is based in UK which results that the company has a lot of
scope in future. The organization mainly deals for the motor-sport performance engineering,
services and tuning sectors. The organization also provides valuable equipments and resources to
the leading organisation in world for the motor-sport industry. The organization was formed in
April 1994, having its headquarter in Federation House, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, UK.
This is a limited company with the main aim to become one of the most successful industry in
motor-sport sector within UK. The company is operated in UK at a national level. There are
almost 4000 companies which are operating in this industry. These organizations have a turnover
of around £9 billion with the export of around 70% (Andrew, 2018). MIA spends 30% of its
revenue in research and development, this step also increases the scope of company in future.
Almost 25000 well skilled and qualified engineers are working in this industry in UK. From the
above functioning and steps taken by MIA, the organization will also expand its foot in other
countries also. This shows that company has bright future of it and will also get future
opportunities.

2. Impact of the external environment on the management and performance of company.
External environment are the factors which does not have direct connection with the
organization but it influence the performance and management of the company. MIA is operating
in UK within motor-sport industry. In order to find the impact of external environment on the
performance and management of company, PESTEL analysis is done. The factors included
within this analysis are as follows:
Political Factor
It is the factor which is used to identify the political stability, decision-making, feasibility
for the organization in that country etc. In UK, the government is always pro in conducting the
sporting events within country. On 10 April 2017 (Batty, 2016), new laws came into force which
allow the event to be take place on closed public roads in England. The main aim of the
government to make these laws is to increase the tourism within country. This will give a huge
revenue to the government of UK. From this new law the motor-sport company will gain
different projects for conducting events. The organization will get the experience of managing
the events and activities within UK. This will increase the performance of company in a drastic
way.
Economical Factor
Government of UK is very much concerned about conducting the sports events within
UK. They have supported the agencies which are engaging in such activities. MIA is also
benefited with the government with the funding and investments. This will increase the
performance of the organization so that a good management can be presented in the events.
Social Factor
This factor includes the interest of people in UK. The country has given birth to many
sports such as Rugby, Cricket Dart, golf etc. All of these sporting events are most loved by the
people of UK (Chelladurai, 2018). In addition to this, motor-sport is also an activity which has
been supported by the society. Their love and affection towards sports allow the sporting
industry MIA to expand their business within country. This will help the company in increasing
their performance towards its rivals.
Technological Factor
Technology is the most common factor which has been started within sports. In motor-

different cameras, fan engagement with social media, different gaming zones, sporting events
such as Formula 1 etc. are the most common aspects through which MIA can easily perform
better in its industry. This will help the company in managing the concepts easily and smoothly.
Environmental Factor
Although sports does not have so much affect over environment but still government of
UK has planned properly to mange all the sporting events (Ferkins, 2018). Sporting events can
harm the environment by air pollution waste generation, green house gages emission etc. Thus
leads to decrease in Ozone layer depletion etc. The government of UK has planned effectively to
manage the events thus protecting the environment. In case of MIA, the company can easily
manage the sporting events within the guidelines of UK government.
Legal factor
There are various facts that been passed by the government of UK such as Health and
Safety at work Act, 1974, Personal protective equipment 2002, etc. (Legislation factors in sports.
2019). All of these legal aspects impose MIA to perform its operations smoothly. These acts and
laws help them to manage the events easily.
3. Impact of the internal environment on the management and performance of company.
Internal environment are the factors which are directly related to the organization. These
factors impact upon the operations of a company. VRIO model is one of the important tool
which is helpful in identifying the internal factors within organization (Hall and et. al., 2018).
According to this model, the firm has to posses at least four attributes which can help it in
gaining competitive advantage. There are four attributes such as the resources must be valuable,
rare, costly to imitate and organized to capture value. Following is the explanation of such
attributes to follow the VRIO model (VRIO. 2018).

It is considered to be the framework which asks whether the resource is valuable or not.
Valuable resource is called which exploits opportunities and defend against the threats. In case of
MIA the company has valuable resources such as 25000 skilled engineers which can help the
company in making technological advanced vehicles (Jones and et. al., 2018). Apart from that,
the company is also bounded with 4000 industry which are working in the same field, This gives
a lot of value to the resources of company.
Rare
These are the resources which are rare to the organization. In case of MIA, brand
positioning is the resource which is not rare to the company. The brand image can be change at
any time by its rivals. Apart from that, machineries, financial resources and employees are the
resources which are rare for the company.
Imitate
This is the step in which the resources which cannot be copied are considered. In case of
MIA, financial resources and employees are the imitate resources which cannot be copied by any
other rivals (Kim, 2017). Apart from that, machineries are imitable therefore it cannot be
included in imitate list of resources.
Organized
Employees are the only resource which can be organized by MIA. These employees can
give a huge competition to the rivals of MIA. There are 25000 skilled engineers for MIA which
gives it a huge benefit. Therefore organization should organize its employees to keep out
maximum from them.
4. The ways through which style of leadership can affect the performance of an organization
The rivalry of MIA is seems to be Sports Wales. The company mainly deals in
developing and promoting physical activity in Wales. The organization has various trademarks
such as it has performed successfully in 2008 Olympic games since last 100 years (Miragaia,
2016). Apart from that, 25% of the Paralympic gold medallist in UK was arrived from this
organization. The Chairmen of the company is Lawrence Conway. He has given a brilliant
opportunity to its candidates so that they can perform better in the games. Following are the traits
of him which can affect the performance of MIA.

Lawrence Conway has a very strong determination which is necessary to win a sports
game. He has motivated its candidates to work hard and perform better fro their country. This
trait can motivate MIA also to work hard and bring the game to other countries also so that it can

The leader can only motivate the candidate to be aware about the situations within match.

will help MIA to be aware about the possible opportunities to keep in trend and increase the

5. Recommendation
From the above stated analysis it can be recommended that MIA should be aware about
the needs and demands of the motor-sport industry. This will help them to keep update
themselves with the current trends and market values of the same industry. Apart from that, they
should also focus on expanding the motor-sports so that it can also help the organization to
expand its revenue. The organization should have strong determination for the betterment of the
sports persons. They should provide them every possible resources which will help them to
perform better in sports events. They should also provide all the security essentials for them so
that they can concentrate over their performance to keep winning in all of the matches.
CONCLUSION
In this report, it can be concluded that management in leadership of sports is an essential
component. This has resulted in increasing the performance of the sports person on the ground.
Apart from that, many internal factors and external factors have helped the organization to
identify their aspect so that they expand easily within country. A leader of Sports Wales also
help MIA to be strong determined and aware to win the competition.
