INTRODUCTION
Leadership styles are not like one-size that fits-all rather it varies from the perceptions of
the person choosing it. There is nothing like comparison between the effectiveness of the
patterns of leadership (Saeed, and et. al., 2014). Every person has different strengths and
weaknesses that are necessary to be considered while adapting a suitable leadership style.
Further, it can not be attained by understanding the theories behind it rather it is a practical
process which requires a step-by-step method to achieve the desired set of skills. The present
report is a reflective piece on, "What style of a leader do I want to be and How will I get there?".
MAIN BODY
There are different style of leadership present to be abide with and to choose one of them
is totally dependent of the strengths and weaknesses possessed. It is necessary to know yourself
before opting for any style. I want to be a democratic leader. I like the concept behind this
leadership style, "team-working". I firmly believe that the effectiveness of an entity can be
attained by sharing the ideas, work roles, knowledge and understanding. This leadership method
is not only beneficial for the company but also helps in personal and professional development
Nahavandi, A., 2016This style encompasses the impression that everyone should play a part in
the team decisions. It has been identified that it is one of the most effective leadership methods
which creates great productivity. It can lead to better and precisely, creative solutions by
encouraging the shared decision-making among team members (Amanchukwu, Stanley and
Ololube, 2015). Thus, I have decided to be a democratic leader.
In order to understand my acceptance to this leadership style, I have to identify my own
potential, skills, strengths and weaknesses. I have observed that I firmly believes in team-work.
Also, I perform well when there is healthy competition in the group. In addition to this, I have
identified that I like to help others in their work so that a friendly environment can be maintained
in the premises. I keep positive attitude towards work. Besides this, I observed that I have a
creative mind that keeps calibre to bring innovative ideas in the business. Moreover, I always
appreciate others' idea and never had any judgemental opinion. However, I believed that I
sometimes become biased for the needy employees which may impact upon the selected
leadership style that strongly opposes this characteristic (Du and et. al., 2013). In addition to this,

I lack in a property, "risk taking ability" which is highly required to be possessed in order to be a
democratic leader. Also, I does not have that level of competence which is needed in the chosen
leadership style. In order to achieve this, I should take actions on the basis of moral principles
rather than making decisions based on emotional feelings. I should also eliminate the biasing
behaviour. Hence, by overcoming these lacking factors I can attain the desired leadership style.
CONCLUSIONS
The skills, behaviour and calibre of people highly varies and depending upon these
variable abilities, an individual is required to possess a specific leadership style. In the present
reflective piece, the skill-set needed in democratic leadership style is discussed so that one can
implement them in the real-life.
