1. Introduction
As per claimed by Paustian-Underdahl, Walker and Woehr (2014), leadership is an
essential secret to the successfully demanding roles of the present day’s society. Leadership
style is something that encompasses a very consistent combination of the behaviours and the
attitudes of the individual towards a specific group of members for achieving certain goals
(Saleem, 2015). An effective leadership style is a fundamental tool used for maximizing the
performance of the company and has obtained ample of research. The performance of an
employee is based on two components- the performance and the withdrawal from their job.
Popli and Rizvi (2015) in this context has also stated that the stability of an organisation to
influence the performance of its employees lies in the leadership style that it made use of.
The main purpose of this research paper would be to understand the effect of leadership
styles on Employees performance of British Petroleum Australia.
2. Aims and objectives
The main aim of this research proposal is to analyse the significance of the leadership
styles on performance of the employees of BP Australia. With the same, the main objectives
are to-
Identify the various leadership styles used in BP Australia
Determine whether leadership style effect their employees’ performance
Effect of different leadership styles on the employee performance of BP Australia
3. Methodology
In order to assess the different leadership styles as well as to assess their affect the
performance of the employees in BP Australia, this research study has selected to use
a mixed methodology in order to conduct this very research study.

Literature Review- Different literatures has been reviews in order to assess the
different styles of leadership styles that are influencing the performance of the
employees working in BP Australia. The performance of the employees there shall
also be assessed with the help of different academic journal articles, some industry
reports, government data and some other reports that are available publicly.
Data collection- In order to conduct this study, secondary data would be collected
along with some advocacy groups and industry sources.
Interviews- In order to support the findings collected from the secondary data
analysis, this paper shall also conduct some interviews with different key stakeholders
of the company as well as of some employees who are working for a quite long period
of time and of advocacy group. Combined with the key findings, interviews will help
in the discussion on development of a relevant conclusion and some future strategies
for the workforce.
4. Secondary data analysis methods
As it is already mentioned under the methodology section, in order to conduct the
research study, secondary data collection methods will be used. It will mainly collected the
secondary data and information from the Australian government reports, from the BP
industrial reports and some other relevant that are available publicly. It shall also assess the
different academic journal articles. With the same, the demographic features of every
employees of BP Australia along with safety data and workplace flexibility like the flexibility
provided to them in their work schedule and occupational health will be assessed.
Furthermore, the safety data and the literatures shall be gathered from the websites of the
company in relation to its working procedure and progress that available publicly on the
internet will be assessed.

After the collection procedure of all the data, all the identified leadership styles as well as the
demographic characteristics, the workplace safety indicators and the workplace flexibility
would be structures in Excel sheet. After this, a correlation analysis shall be conducted for
finding out the relation in between these attraction variables like the workplace flexibility and
that of safety and the demographic variables like the age groups and gender.
