in this report. In this way, the paper has found leadership needs for sustainable futures. The
discussion has successfully found the key challenges which come across the path of a leader
who is working or wishes to work within the framework of sustainable development or global
sustainability. The main findings of this report are based on research conducted on SDG-7
and BCORP RPRE. Here, the research has found that RPRE is a Bcorp listed firm that is
continuously working towards achieving clean and affordable energy for all worldwide.

Introduction
This research report is focused on describing contemporary leadership for sustainable
futures. While doing so, this discussion is going to define as well as explain the key
principles of sustainability into a global business environment. As we know that
sustainability has become the key objective of this digital world hence principles of
sustainability will help this world to ensure sustainable future of our earth (Kumar, et al.,
2011). In this context, suggestive leadership practices for sustainable development and future
will be discussed in this report. Apart from this, an analysis of how broad range of
organizational entities assess and articulate values for sustainability in the context of chosen
BCorporations and benefit organizations of this era will be conducted. Moreover, a
comparison of aforementioned organizational entities while including their mission-vision
statements will be presented. Subsequently, an implementation strategic plan for
sustainability-oriented leadership will also be demonstrated here.
BCorporation selection
In order to research about leadership for sustainable futures, a BCorporation has been
chosen from the top BCorporations. The chosen BCorporation is Right People Renewable
Energy. Being an effective leader, I have chosen this firm as it is related to the chosen SDG
for my focus (RPRE Asia, 2019). The chosen SDG for writing this report is Sustainable
Development Goal-7 which is all about ensuring clean and affordable energy for all by 2030.
My personal experiences related to sustainable development suggests that without clean and
safe energy global communities cannot survive in the future. Hence, before everything else
we need to protect our environment and thereby earth with the help of saving energy
resources for sustainable future. This selected firm Right People Renewable Energy (RPRE)
is focused on creating a green, clean as well as sustainable future in near future. This is the
reason that the chosen firm is exactly putting efforts into the direction of achieving SDG-7
effectively and soon (RPRE Asia, 2019).

SDG selection
For researching the chosen topic of leadership for sustainable development and future,
the selected SDG is SDG-7. As we know that SDGs are referred to Sustainable Development
Goals, which are the set of aims, rules, and objectives in relation to world’s sustainable
development in near future. In this way, based on (United Nations, 2018), SDG-7 suggests
that we all must ensure access to reliable, sustainable and affordable as well as modern
energy for the whole world (United Nations, 2018). The reason why being a leader, I have
chosen this SDG for my focus on sustainable future, is that people are still living without
adequate and affordable energy which is essential for their daily life (Kushwaha & Sharma,
2016).
Literature Review
In order to achieve success in this competitive world, good and focused leadership is
always required. While doing so, there could be so many challenges that come across the
path. In this way, this section will talk about those specific challenges for the chosen SDG-7
in the framework of sustainable development (Nilsson, Griggs, & Visbeck, 2016). By
narrating and exploring the challenges which are hindering the achievement progress and

process of the SDG-7 into sustainable development framework, this discussion will able to
suggest the likely solutions for them (Kilkis, 2016).
Traditional uses of biomass
For a leader, who wants to implement all sustainable development strategies for
achieving SDG-7, a conventional mindset is a great challenge worldwide. In this context,
traditional uses of biomass in developing countries have become a huge challenge for the
national and international leaders while attaining SDG-7 for all (Kaygusuz, 2012). Biomass
energy is able to offer adequate energy for the people living in remote as well as village
areas, yet it is not a clean source of energy. In this way, in the process of achieving SDG-7
for the whole world, traditional mind-set is a big hurdle for the global leaders who are
working within the framework of sustainable development (Islam & Salma, 2016).
Poverty
It is well-aware fact that poverty is the root cause of many critical problems on this
planet (Lu, Nakicenovic, Visbeck, & Stevance, 2015). Hence, poverty affects the GDP as
well as inflation rate of any country. Subsequently, this will affect the economy of the nation
which will restrict the national Govt. to implement as more strategies in favour of sustainable
development. In this way, this challenge is also considerably effecting SDG-7 achievement
throughout the world (Islam & Salma, 2016).
Poor education
Most of the challenges discussed here are interlinked with each other as one affects
the other. For example, poverty causes poor education in the several nations of this world. In
this way, less educated and uneducated people are creating hurdles for the leaders while
accomplishing SDG-7 for all (Griggs, et al., 2013).
Technology Literacy Rate
In addition, a low technology literacy rate demotivates people to understand SDGs
aims and objectives effectively. Further then, it obstructs the great leaders of the developing
and developed countries from achieving SDG-7 quickly and efficiently (Dash, 2013).
Inter-linkages between SDG 7 and other SDGs
As we know that, there are 17 SDGs, which are individually focused on different
sustainable development goals and they all are interlinked with each other. It means all of the

SDGs are inter-dependent towards each other. Therefore, maintaining a balance among the
accomplishing process of all of the 17 SDGs is a challenge itself (Clifton & Boruff, 2010).
Change Management in the societies of rigid people
In this context, whenever a strategy or plan needs to implement into a community
then management of the resistance towards the change becomes a huge challenge for the
leaders and effective leadership. In this way, change management within the global
communities of rigid mentality people is again a big challenge (Bass & Dalal-Clayton, 2012).
Principles of sustainability in a global business environment
In this context, in order to define sustainability, it can be said that sustainability is the
capability to exist constantly. Into this 21st century, sustainability refers to the capacity for
the biosphere as well as a human civilization to co-exist in long future (Birol, 2018). In
addition to that, six principles of sustainability are those rules or regulations which can help a
community ensuring that their economic, social, as well as environmental systems are well
integrated and will endure in future (Barrow, 2008). In this way, within a global business
environ, there are mainly three major principles of sustainability as follows:

This section is focused on discussing how the selected BCORP is currently working
on chosen SDG-7 as well as other SDGs. In addition to that, this discussion will also compare
the activities of this BCORP with its competitors within a similar industry sector (UNESCO,
2018).
Analysis and comparison of the range of organisational entities for
sustainability
The chosen firm RPRE is doing excellent work in the field of achieving seventh SDG
while providing renewable energy solutions for all. The company is providing solutions for
ensuring green, clean, and sustainable future for the entire world (Sustainable Development
Goals, 2018). In this context, the company’s mission and vision are strongly associated with
harnessing process of the Sun's power or energy (Pearce, Barbier, & Markandya, 2013). The
chosen company is highly contributing towards attaining all SDGs which are directly or
indirectly related to safe, secure, affirmable, green and clean energy generation and
distribution all across the world. It is a Singaporean company which is presently functioning

in Indonesia and thereby providing renewable energy solutions for their global industrial
clients largely (RPRE Asia, 2019).
It has been analysed that the chosen firm RPRE is having an in-depth understanding
of energy-related issues faced by global industries in relevant regions (Cui & Fang, 2011). In
this way, the company is highly committed to assisting its global clients to be independent of
energy-associated problems with those renewable energy solutions provided by the RPRE.
While compared to its competitors, a detailed competitors’ analysis has been performed
which is suggesting that the company is doing great as per their mission and vision as
compared to the energy-solution provider companies such as Georgia Power, Borrego Solar
Systems, Duke Energy, American Electric Power, Xcel Energy, SABIC, Invenergy LLC, and
many more.
Summary
In whole, this research report has successfully found leadership needs for sustainable
futures. The discussion has successfully found the key challenges which come across the path
of a leader who is working or wishes to work within the framework of sustainable
development or global sustainability. The main findings of this report are based on research

Recommendations
Based on this research, there are some key recommendations which are useful for
ensuring sustainable development for the future from an effective leadership perspective, as
follows:
 Global businesses working into the energy sector must provide solutions off-grid
commercial as well as industrial clients for transitioning to clean renewable energy
from dirty energy.
 Based on (Blewitt, 2008), everyone in this world should work hard towards making
the planet a better place while focusing on the triple bottom line of People, Planet, and
Profit.

 World Health Organization must encourage the good practices in relation to
environmental management for sustainable future
 WHO and developed nations must collaborate and work together over creating new
environment conservation policies.
 Being good leaders, we all should leave a better planet for our future generations.
