Links and difference between management and leadership
Management and leadership are the two significant terms which are used by professionals
interchangeably. Management is more effectively analysed as getting things accomplished
through other individuals in order to attain the organizational objectives (Kim, Kumar and
Kumar, 2012). It has been regarded as associated with the people who are working a structured
organization and with prescribed roles and responsibilities. It is significant for managers to
understood that leadership is most essential part of management. Effective leadership is a
beneficial asset of a successful manager which they should have. According (Hörisch, Freeman
and Schaltegger, (2014), a leader can be a manager but it is not essential that a manager will be a
leader. Remarkable leadership behaviour in the organization will focus upon development of
environment in which employee will achieve growth and development. This influence will
generate from the formal source just like that given by acquisition of the important managerial
position within a private sector enterprise (Dubey, Gunasekaran and Ali, 2015). For instance,
Leadership and management plays a crucial role in providing growth to the organization in
private sector within UK. Some points of differences between leadership and management in
relation with private sector are discussed.
As per the view of Hill, Jones and Schilling, (2014), management in the private business
enterprise always lays down the structured along with the delegation of authority and
responsibilities whereas leadership focus on providing direction and ways through development
of vision of organization and communicating it to employees. For example: In B&M retail,
Managers always focus on delegation of authority and responsibilities to their employees so that
work can be accomplished effective whereas leaders provide direction to employees for
completing the work delegated by managers in order to accomplish the organization's vision.
Further, management in private organization focus on planning, organizing, staffing, directing
and controlling of individual at workplace whereas leadership emphasis on the part directing of
employee in organization (Giltinane, 2013). Management plays an important in role in
development of team within an organization whereas leadership plays the role of managing those
teams. According to (), leaders in private organization gets authority from their followers
whereas managers will get their authority by virtue of their position in the enterprise. In private
sector, managers of enterprise is responsible for effective management of business operations

through formulation and implementation of effective business strategies whereas leaders are
responsible for providing direction and ensure that employees will perform their duties to
implement the strategies effective in order to achieve organizational objectives.
Different leadership styles
Leadership style is ways of leaders to provide direction, information and implementation
of policies, plans and motivation people in organization. As per view Goleman, (2017), leaders
in private business enterprise needs to adopt the style of leadership after analysing the situation
and work environment. Moreover, culture and objectives of business will demonstrate which
style of leadership is effective for enterprise (Bihani, 2015). Here are some common leadership
are analysed which are used by leaders to influence employees such as transformational,
Transactional, autocratic, democratic, bureaucratic and charismatic leadership style.
Implementation of wrong leadership style provides major influence on the motivation of
employees and operations of enterprise. Transformational leadership implies to the style where a
leader in company work together with their subordinates in order identify and analyse the
requirement of change, formulates a vision in order to guide for change through inspiration. They
tend to serve for increasing the motivation, morale and performance of their followers through a
variety of mechanism (Du and et.al., 2013). For example: In B&M retail, managers will use
transformational leadership style for implementation of change in system of work and
identification of training needs of employees. Further, Managers using the transactional style of
leadership will achieve a specific task to accomplish and provides rewards and punishment to
their team members on the basis of their performance results. In this, managers along with the
team will set predetermined objectives and employees will become agree to follow the direction
and instruction of managers to achieve those of common objectives. Further, more intense
version transactional leadership, autocratic leaders in private organisation have a major control
on their staff and rarely or may not consider the suggestion provided by employees. For instance,
managers of B&M retail use this leadership style in a situation where there will be an urgent
requirement of decision and lack of qualified employees at workplace (Ruggieri and Abbate,
2013). Participative or democratic leadership style implies to the situation of company in which
leaders provides values to the input of their team members and their peers but ultimate authority
of taking final decision will remain with participative leader. According to (), Leaders using
democratic leadership style will achieve success in boosting the morale of their team members

because employees will make contribution towards process of decision making. For
example:When TESCO needs to make changes in their functions, participative leadership will
assist workers to accept those changes effectively and easily as they play a significant role in the
process. Thus, it can be said that these leaderships styles plays an important role in providing
success to the organisation and help in gaining a competitive advantage on rivals in industry.
Private sector enterprises are required to implement democratic style of leaderships in order to
motivate and boosting their morale to accomplish the job effectively.

In order to implement and maintain effective leadership in organisation, leaders needs to
ensure the involvement of their team members in every task and accomplishment of
organisational objectives. In private sector, leaders requires various essential skill in order to
develop a team work and coordination at work. According to (West, 2012). Leaders in
organisation should posses excellent communication skills to have an influence on their team
members so that they will work together for accomplishment of common objectives. With
effective communication, they will be able to guide their subordinates and make them clear
about their roles and responsibilities (Burke and Barron, 2014). Ability to leader the workers is
also an essential skill that entails how a leader can motivate employees in order to achieve
expected results. For example: B&M retail have an objective to increase their market share by
10% in every quarter, then leaders will encourage employees to follow the strategies developed
by management to achieve these objectives and communicate important information provided by
management (Yukl, 2012). Moreover, development and fostering relationship with both the
employees and clients is also a mark for a good leader who is truly concentrated to his position
or company. These relationships will inspire the team members to work effective and possibly
even going beyond the job responsibilities. Leaders should also have skills such as proper time
management, trust worthiness, industry expertise and perceptive of team requirements etc. Thus,
it can be said that these essential will enable leaders of private sector enterprise to develop team
and helps in encouraging participation team members towards achievement of organisation
goals.
