Introduction
In the current scenario of the business environment, the team leaders are the ones who
provides proper guidance, direction, instruction along with leadership to the different group
members for the purpose of achieving the key result or the aligned results appropriately.
When the team leader tries to motivate the team, the group members helps in functioning in
the goal-oriented manner. In the contemporary business scenario, the teamwork atmosphere
is the one which helps them in promoting atmosphere which helps in fostering the loyalty and
mutual understanding among the different team members. The close-knit relationship is the
vital element motivates the employees in parallel manner and align them in working harder
and become supportive for one another. It has been capable of reducing the leader and
follower relationship and in the teams, the followers and the team leader work in the co-joint
manner for achieving the goals and achieve the desired results within stipulated time line.
The essay throws light on critically understanding and examining the role of leaders
in the teams for achieving success. In the previous scenarios, the different companies mainly
focused on individual dynamic kind of relationships between leader and follower. However,
in the contemporary companies, the different companies rely more and more on teams and
with the help of suitable examples of suitable leaders who have been capable of achieving
success, the role of leaders in the teams for gaining competitiveness.There are different
instances of the companies and leaders who have been successful in achieving the successful
and desired results within the stipulated time frame after working as a team and the desired
results have been achieved successfully.
Discussion
As commented by Warrick (2017), in the previous scenario of the business
environment, it has been noticed from various surveys,that there was a formal leader and

subordinate relationship that led to the gap between them and it affected the work atmosphere
negatively. There was no presence of teams in the different companies and the employees
used to work in an individual manner and achieved their goals. However, as opined by
Vasilaki et al. (2016), there has been different instances when they were not successful and it
led to the negative kind of productivity in the workplace. It led to the communication gap and
affected the morale of the employees which was showcased in the different tasks performed
by them. Due to lack of motivational aspects, the employees disliked the different tasks
which were performed by them and it reduced the overall effectiveness of the business
environment (Tullo, 2019).
However, as commented by Shuffler and Carter (2018), there are different
contemporary organizations in the present scenario as in the teamwork, the strength of the
different individuals from various cultures and with various educational backgrounds, are
combined for benefit of the entire team. Moreover, as stated by Salas et al. (2015), teamwork
helps in building unity among group members and the better results are delivered within the
stipulated time frame. On the other hand, according to Sandoff and Nilsson (2016), there was
no such coordination among the employees and supervisors and the supervisors were held
responsible alone for the different mishaps which used to take place. On contrary, there were
different instances wherein the employees were fired without their fault as they followed the
instruction of supervisors.
As commented by Rosen et al. (2018), in case of the teamwork, the relationship plays
an important role as it assists the different individuals in communicating properly with one
another with proper respect and the same is applicable in case of the managers. As stated by
Meng and Boyd (2017), the teamwork is one of the vital aspects which is required in different
kinds of business organizations wherein there is inclusion of small number of individuals
with complementary skills who are committed to a specific purpose and achieve the common

goals as desired by them and they are mutually accountable for the success or the failure.
Furthermore, according to Lacerenza et al. (2018), the selection of team leader is the most
essential approach which needs to be followed by the companies as the supportive approach
is the key element which will be beneficial for overall success of the firm.
In the contemporary present companies, as opined by Jain et al. (2016), the team
leaders are the preferable under whom, there are more than three to four members who keeps
on working and generate the suitable results. The leaders offer proper guidance to the
different members in team for ensuring that they are fulfilling the roles. Moreover, as
commented byChuang, Jackson and Jiang (2016), the guidance can be inclusive of the
training as well as instructing the team members and taking punitive and corrective actions
when and wherever necessary. The team leaders do not portray themselves as the strict
supervisors, they prefer to perform the tasks in such a manner wherein they can become their
colleague and all of them work together towards the achievement of the common goal
accordingly.
For instance- In Amazon, Jeff Bezos has been successful in achieving the high level
of profitability in the competitive business environment as he has been the transformational
leader who have been capable of understanding the viewpoints of the different employees and
achieve the desired goals (CNBC.com, 2017). Jeff Bezos has been capable of building the
teams and make them productive through the usage of the two-pizza rule wherein he created
a small group of individuals and made them ear pizzas around the conference table which
helped in epitomizing the cosiness and close social interaction which is required by a team
and it helped in making the things productive.
From the respective example of Amazon company, it can be inferred that the

contemporary companies in the present scenario as it helps them in enhancing the team
morale and it helps them in achieving the goals in a more efficient manner. Through
appropriate teamwork, there will be unique skills of people which will be encouraged for
achieving the goals and in such scenario, the leaders, such as CEO of the company plays a
major role in making the team achieve the goals within the stipulated time frame and make
them feel that their ideas are being valued. Jeff Bezos was the one who was capable of
making the teams accountable as in the team setting, the true team leader takes on the full
responsibility for the final results of the teams whether it is a failure or success. Motivation is
the key element which needs to be incorporated and implemented by the company as it will
be effective in gaining the successful results within stipulated time frame.
Additionally, as commented by Bouhali et al. (2015), motivation is the key element
that needs to be incorporated for improving the morale of employees along with their
performance.
Maslow’s Hierarchy Theory is the most suitable approach which is required
to be followed and is followed by Jeff Bezos wherein the basic needs of the employees are
given with the top-most priority and it enhances their skills in achieving the successful
results. The proper and accurate working conditions along with safety conditions such as safe
working conditions and proper salary are the two major elements which needs to be
implemented by the companies for improving their well-being and help them in achieving the
effectiveness.
While working in the teams, as commented by Al Rahbi, Khalid and Khan (2017), the
esteem needs are required to be applied wherein when the employees perform well, they are
required to be rewarded which makes them feel that they are valued and it motivates them for
performing effectively as well. The high level of flexibility as well as autonomy are the vital
elements that are required to be introduced by companies for growth of the companies and it
will be suitable for achieving the desired goals. As the name of the theory suggests, Maslow

believed that in order to motivate the employees, it is necessary to understand their demands
which will be helpful for the company to retain such talented employees.
For instance- Mark Zuckerbergis the other suitable example wherein he played a
proper and most accurate leader for his employees and helped the employees to perform their
tasks effectively. He tried to implement the hygiene and the motivational factors for the
employees who have been capable of understanding the scenario and gain more knowledge
on improving the effectiveness and achieve the desired goals. Mark Zuckerberg is full of
ideas wherein he does not work for cash or earning money, he is hard worker and he tries to
attain the goals with his team members as he feels that their opinions are essential and
important and they need to be made feel that they are the integral part of the company.
Moreover, he is the aggressive and most encouraging leader who have been capable
of building proper relationships with the subordinates whom he treats as his team members
and it helped the company Facebook to reach greater heights successfully (Forbes.com,
2019). The Leader-Member Exchange theory is followed by CEO of Facebook wherein he
followed the two-way dynamic relationship with followers which has been helpful for him in
enhancing the behaviour of employees and improve the effectiveness of the firm in an
efficient manner.
From the respective instance, it can be found that the role of leaders in the
contemporary organizations help in empowering the subordinates or the team members as
they feel that in the current scenario of the complex business world, the trust is the most
crucial factor which needs to be incorporated by the companies as it will be beneficial for
retaining the most talented employees and make them feel engaged and they are excited
towards the project in a proper manner. Moreover, as commented by Aga, Noorderhaven and

in the teams in the contemporary organizations, it can be seen that the leaders are the integral
part of different teams in various kinds of organizations. The leaders are capable of making
and empowering the members of the team and it helps them in achieving the goals in a more
sustainable manner. The team leaders help in simplifying the process through which the
decision-making process can be streamlined which will be effective in managing the process
in a suitable manner.
The team leaders have the keep the projects moving forward that enhances the
capability of members of the team to work hard and make them feel that their opinions are
