Preface
Being an internee of hospitality management, I was assigned with the task of trainee in the
Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport hotel (Plaza, 2018). My assigned department was conference
room. This is a big hotel in Sydney and is adjacent to the Sydney Airport with all modern
features normally available in five star hotels globally. Following is my reflective journal
describing three days’ assignment to enrich my experience in real work place.
Day one
I had reported there at 8 A.M. on the first day and had been introduced to the conference room
manager, Mr. Robert. He was cordial and cooperative in his approach. Initially he had introduced
me to the team members with special emphasis on my immediate superior Mr. John. First day I
had been taken to watch different conference rooms with different size and sitting capacity. I was
also introduced with the system of work prevailing there. Normally the conference rooms start
working from early morning till late evening. Team members are consisting of floor staffs with
specific assignment of job categories. I was assigned with cleaning of crockery sets and serving
of tea and coffee to the guests.
Day Two
My reporting time of next day was 7 A.M. I was assigned in the specified conference room
named Mascot 1/3. My job was to attend the guests with welcome drink and help them to have
hot beverages during breakfast and lunch time. During the day, I have found the effectiveness of

team effort with the professional leadership of Mr. John. The size of the hospitality team was ten
for the said conference room with seven on serving role and three on cleaning role. Team
cohesiveness was found effective as the job was done with proper instructions and in
professional way. Emotional intelligence played distinct role to prove the efficiency of service of
the team.
Day Three
Third day I have reported at 7 A.M. I was assigned to serve hot beverages again to the guests.
My observations regarding group thinking was significant, as the team followed the leadership
with true spirit. There was no evident sign of group conflict, as everybody was professional and
knew their role to perform. In case of conflict, leadership would solve the problem with
immediate decision.
Conclusion
After this internship assignment completed by me, I can understand my role as hospitality trainee
to perform well within the guidelines shown by Mr. John. I hope I can fulfill the demand of the
situation for my professional career and would be successful in long run.
