When the human resource manager of UPS goes with the recruitment and selection

Sex discriminatory act: At the time of recruitment the UPS cannot discriminate in
between the male and female candidate, who so ever been selected male or female that person
has to provide the job in firm or they become bound to select individual.
Equality act: Men or women should be treated with equality and no one is going to
receive the extra privileges in company. If it is done in firm then it is unlawful and somewhere
the law has broke by entity.
At Advertising stage: when the HR manager of the company goes with the
advertisement part then in that advertisement should not discriminate in between sex, religion,
nationality, race and age etc.. The manager should not break the law of advertisement.
At Interview stage: The UPS should make in mind that at this stage there should be no
personal biasness and a candidate should not ask any question which has the impact on
individual religion or something. If a disable person is there for interview then he/she does not

As a part of recruitment and selection our panel has undergoing through selecting the
employee. As a HR manager it is a responsibility of mine to select right people for the right job
(Ion, Cowan and Lindsay, 2010). The process for making this in right way is be like:
Short listing: The company spend quite a time in shot listing a candidate. Various
methods are available with us in making a short list some of those are IQ test, written exams etc.
after making selection in such process the interview is being scheduled of person got appointed.
Interviews: In this part of selection the interview is done of the selected candidate in
short listing. In interviews I have seen that candidate is competitive, his/her confidence, their

1.4 Own contribution in the selection process
In the recruitment and selection process, as a HR manager in the UPS. I took part in such
process and I was the part of making documentation which was required for the requirement and
selection. Thus advertisement was hard in which I suggested many other media from which a
company can make advertisement of job vacant. As a HR manager I was also chosen in the
panels or recruitment and selection and me and the team got success in selecting the best among
others. I also helped in having short listing of candidates and selected the right people for the
right job and after all such thing I was being the part of creating the documentation ready of the
appointment letter of candidate who got selected in the recruitment process. I was the part of all
such criteria and it was an learning experience as well when seating with the experienced people
while recruiting and selecting and learned many new things with the leading people of UPS.
Task 2
2.1 Skills and attribute needed in leadership
Leadership refers to the action of leading workers and their group within the organisation.
Mainly, it is an ability of a person to influence and guide their workers to perform well. In
addition of this, it also involve clear vision, providing guidance, motivation and many more. All
these are important for leader to influence and encourage workers to attain set goals and
objectives. In this context, there are different type of leadership which exist in working
environment:
Autocratic leadership: This type of leadership allow leader to take the control of taking
decision without discussion with others. Autocratic leader has high power and authority to
influence workers but at the same time it reduce morale or creative workers because leader is not
give more importance to them.
Democratic leadership: It is an effective leadership which also known by participative. It
help in increasing the involvement of workers within the business activities. This may contribute
in improving their overall performance. It is more effective when UPS company makes changes
within their activities as it help workers to accept all the chances appropriately. One of the main
advantage of this leadership is to enhance participation of the employees.
Various skills and attribute are there which has to be there in the leadership some of those
is as follows:
5
Document Page
Communication: This ability should possess inside the leader just because they are one
who works in between the various levels even though they know how to communicate
effectively with employees and their colleagues and they are responsible for communicating the
policy and the task to workers so that they can work in right direction (Lev, 2013). Best leaders
keep update in technology or market changes and they keep their employees to update
themselves with time which help in working efficiently.
Passion: This ability should be there in every leaders because passion towards their work
make them more compatible and their enthusiasm to work influences their employees as well to
work hard and increase their productivity in great manner. It is required by leaders to praise their
workers on regular basis shows how leaders are passion able towards their work.
Team building: The effective leader build a team in better manner. Task and work can
be completed more effectively when a team is working on a particular task in comparison with
individual working even with building team in organisation helps in removing the conflicts in
between the employees and they will increase their productivity.
2.2 Difference in between the leadership and management.
There are various difference in between the leadership and management who works with
their responsibility in proper manner. The difference is like:
Leadership:
Leadership refers to leading people with their skills. Trust is there among the employees
and leaders are influencer they motivate employees and workers to work in right direction and
helps in increasing their productivity and effectiveness in their performance (Mendenhall, ed.,
2012). Leaders are those who encourages everyone to perform efficiently and thus they are one
who has the better foresightedness and leaders interact with workers and employees on regular
basis so that they can bring change in them according to time and requirement.
Management:
The word management is a combination of two terms i.e. “Manage”+”ment” which
means managing the whole organisation as one and making decision for the whole company for
the effective working by them and can make stable in market for longer period. Thus
management is responsible for organising and coordinating every thing in efficient way. Thus
they are also responsible for controlling the task the employees. Managers are the rulers in
organisation they manage activities and bring stability in firm and they also make decision like
6
Document Page
policies and procedures which as to be followed by the members of entity and they are for the
short range perspectives.
2.3 Different leadership styles in various situations
There are various leadership styles are there which has to be taken care while putting
them in different situations. Different styles is as follows:
Laissez- faire: Thus the workers working under laissez-faire leaders then they are lack of
supervision and having no regular feedback. Even the highly qualified and experienced workers
required the little supervision but they too fall under this leadership style (Offstein, Morwick,
and Koskinen, 2010). Although every employees does not hold such quality and somewhere this
leadership style hurdles in production of employees.
Autocratic: In this leadership style the leaders does allow the managers to make decision
without interference of anyone. Thus managers has all authority to impose their decision on
workers and they have to work according to policies and procedures made by them.
Transformational: This leadership style is being dependent on high level of
communication skill with the management so that organisation can achieve its goals and
objectives. Even the leaders are responsible for motivating employees so that they can work
effectively and enhance their productivity. In this the leaders do divide their task in between their
teams so that they can achieve their goals as well.
Transactional: In this style of leadership the managers receives particular task and
according to their performance the rewards and punishment is provided to the employees so that
they can work effectively (Terkel, 2011). Team members and managers together sets the
organisational goals and then it becomes the responsibility of employees to work in such
direction so that goals and objectives can be achieved.
2.4 Ways through the staff gets motivated and helps in goals and objectives
Thus motivating the staff is a complicated scenario but to receive the effective working
from the employees it is required to motivate them in right way which will helps in attaining
goals and objectives. The ways is as follows:
Reward recognition: It is needed to provide the rewards to the best employee performed
exceptionally well which help in bringing motivation in him/herself and others to work
effectively for the next time so that they can also receive such rewards. Increased in productivity
through motivation help firm to achieve there goals and objectives efficiently.

Training: When UPS feels that training is required for employees to improve their
performance in company such for that they organise the training programs to develop them in
proper manner (Peterson, 2011). Training thus help them in increasing the skills and knowledge
and makes them to increase their ability to perform better in the organisation with such they can
improve their performance.
Speak to team: It is required by the leaders to speak and communicate with their
employees on regular basis which help in result of increase in performance and productivity.
Speaking and interacting with them individually will make a big difference and employee going
to listen them even too. Speaking in group will not result in productivity.
Respect employees: The leaders can create motivation in employees through bringing
respect in them and this could help in making the effectiveness in their performance and they
will be working effectively and efficiently for organisation. Respect is the thing which everyone
needs and getting this makes a person to work in proper manner in such a way employees will
work hard and going to attain goals and objectives.
Task 3
3.1 Assess the benefits of working of team in PM company
Therefore the working of team is required in a organisation just because through this a
employees can share their values and skills with each other which will help to work effectively in
firm and this help in achieving the goals and objectives company. The benefits is as follows:
Team relation: Working in a team leads to bring in a relation among the individuals. The
team members can share there values and skills and somewhere the knowledge as well which
will help in competing the task in within the time period and creating teams among the
employees will help them to learn new things from each other and although this can bring in less
disputes in between the workers and will make them to work together to achieve the goals and
objectives of firm.
Efficiency: Thus working in a team will bring the efficiency in working style as a team
work in more efficient then an individuals work. Bringing efficiency in organisation help them to
attain their organisational goals and objectives in very effective manner (Rock, 2014). Working
in group or team help in dividing the load of work and can work effectively too. Interaction of
8

team people with each there makes them more compatible and hard workers and this results into
efficiency in work.
3.2 Importance of working in a team as leader and member in specific goals
Coordinator: Leader in a team coordinates the member of its group so that they can
work effectively and efficiently which will result in completion of task on time. Leaders are
committed and disciplined towards there goals and working style. They are motivated and they
always tries to motivate the team members so that they can work in proper manner.
Shaper: The Leader in a team shape the working style of employees and provide right
direction to them so that they can work properly in organisation (Stanleigh, 2013). This kind of
person are very committed and coordinated towards their work they have such influencing power
even with their working style the other workers get motivated and tries to complete the work
according to their leaders.
Implementer: These leaders are those which implements their values and thoughts in
group with the agreement of members of team and such helps in getting the effective working
and great learning experience for workers.
3.3 Review the effectiveness of employees in achieving goals
As an HR manager I would review the effectiveness of employees in achieving the goals
and objectives. The employees work effectively when they get satisfied when their needs are
properly met or providing them various rewards or something which help them to increase their
motivation to work hard. If an worker or employee is working and with effectiveness then this
help organisation in attaining their goals and objectives. Leaders should motivate and influence
them through their words and personality it is required by employees to be committed towards
their work like leaders are, somewhere this brings the efficiency in their working. Employees can
be motivated through training and before this worker should be kept in the scale which will make
company to understand where they stand. And doing by this help in creating and motivating
them and this results in effectiveness in their performance.
Task 4
4.1 Important factors involved in monitoring.
In organisation it is very much required to have a proper planning. Thus planning should
be done in such a manner which will help in result into success of the organisation. Companies
9

has to make a perfect strategies which will lead into achievement of their goals and objectives.
The planning scenario of UPS is very poor and they are using earlier technology in bringing any
change in firm (RodrĂguez-Carvajal and et. al., 2014). They have to undergo to use the new
technology which will help them in creating a best planning and they will develop the strategy in
such a way which will make to fight competition in market. The training should be organised for
the employees so that they can perform in effective manner and with this their interpersonal skill
will work and abilities will come out in proper way and leaders and managers with this will bring
into proper management process.
In this context, the process of performance management is also play an important role in
which company can easily create positive work environment that directly empowers to workers
to improve their abilities at workplace. As it includes some process of managing performance of
the workers at UPS:
Planning: This process relate with attaining the set goals and objectives for workers who
perform in the UPS for attaining success. In this context, manager of the company set objectives
i.e. reducing staff turnover by providing them appropriate learning at workplace. This will
directly contributes in enhancing the motivation level of employees.
Assessment: It is relate with the annual evaluation of the workers performance within the
company. In this manager of the UPS take feedback from their co-workers and also observe the
staff members behaviour towards the working activities on the basis of previous performance.
Recognition: This stage is refers to recognising the workers accomplishing areas that
required improvement. Under this process the manager needs to communicate with their
employees to making improvements. With the help of this workers can easily share their issues
that faced by the them at the time of performing task at workplace. In context of
accomplishments, workers may bet given recognition or promotion as well.
Career development: It is also an important phase to promote and encourage development
of workers which may lead in enhancing employees strengths and also eliminating weakness that
arise at workplace. For this manager of UPS provide training programs to their workers so that
they can easily enhance their productivity.
In addition of this there are some general methods of measurement that help in evaluating
the actual performance of the workers at workplace:

Direct comparison: This type of method is more effective for measuring the performance
of the workers at workplace. With the use of this method manager of the company easily
understand the whole performance by comparing with standard. This method is also known by
comparison method.
Indirect method: It is also an effective method of measuring overall performance. In this
manager of the company evaluate the qualities that used by workers to perform their task. With
the assistance of this, company easily measure their workers performance and determine the
areas for improvements.
For monitoring workers performance, UPS manager use indirect method in which they
evaluate the ways to provide better training and development programs. With the assistance of
this employees can easily enhance their productivity level. In this context monitoring and
evaluation is important to track the whole activities of the workers. With the assistance of this,
manager conduct training programs to their employees to improve their capabilities and ability to
perform well.
4.2 Write a plan and deliver assessment of development needs
The UPS has to make a plan which will develop the needs of individual and attainment of
their needs will make them to perform in perfect manner and they will work hard. It is required
to bring such, as it will help in bringing the objectives in easier manner.
Appropriate would be like:
1. Assigning the proper task to every individual make them to perform better.
2. It is required to receive the results from the employees in proper way.
3. Set standards of performance and measure the actual work with set standards helps in
bringing efficiency in work.
4. Appropriate training should be provided to them so that they can perform better with their
skills and knowledge.
For effectively making a plan and deliver assessment, manager needs to determine the
clear objective i.e. improve workers performance by analysing their qualities. This will aid in
improving the overall performance of the company and its workers as well. One of the main
advantage of this objective is to reduce the staff turnover and at the same time also increase
overall performance. Apart from this, for attaining the same, there are some strategies for
assessment which may help in determining the development needs of employees at workplace:
11
Document Page
Survey: It is one of the important strategy through which manager of UPS can easily
evaluate the workers needs and wants at workplace to improve their abilities. For this manager
conduct survey and ask various questions from their employees to understand their development
needs. As company face high employees turnover so that they provide better training and
development programs to their employees to improve their overall performance.
Observation of behaviour: It is also an important strategy by which manager of the
company analysis employees behaviour on the basis of their performance. For this they interact
with their employees at the time of performing their task. With the assistance of this, UPS
manager easily understand the workers needs for development.
On the basis of these strategies manager of UPS make an effective plan which may
contribute in enhancing workers performance at workplace.

4.3 Evaluate the success of assessment process
The process done in earlier words will be applicable in the process to bring the
effectiveness in the working style of company. As a HR manager this process will help in getting
the future goals and objectives in proper manner, with the help of such development of ability
and skills through training and development and even with this they can easily handle or manage
the difficult situation as well (Savikko and et. al., 2010). As in UPS it was seen that the senior
12

manager and other staff is leaving the company just because of the workload they are having on
their head. It was required by firm to work over this and provide the required assessment and
procedure which will help in reducing the labour turnover and increase in efficiency, somehow
the over process has been done will be helpful for the company and they can bring growth in
their firm and productivity will increase. In this context there are some pros and cons of
assessment plan are as follows:
The main advantage of this plan is to improve the productivity level of the employees at
workplace. This is possible when the manager of the UPS provide training and development
activities to the employees as per their needs and wants. With the help of plan, manager easily
develop workers needs to enhance their performance level at workplace.
On the other hand, the main disadvantage of this plan is that some time manager of UPS
fail in determining the assessment need of the employees for their improvement. This will
negatively affect the entire performance the employees at workplace.
CONCLUSION
The UPS is leading firms in UK which serve million of people with their effective
services. The outcome of report is that the UPS can recruit, select many other person for vacant
place they are having in their organisation and go with many other leadership styles which will
help in getting the effectiveness in their working and thus legal and regulatory things has to be
taken care for employees and what could be the effectiveness will be there when working in team
as one. All such will result in performing rightly and effecting working.
