1CURRENT AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
The book Disruptive Leadership by Rich Kao analyses how leadership led to the
emergence of Apple into a global leading brand (Kao 2018). Companies across the world are
making their way in the industry by the use of innovative and creative products and services.
However, developing into a disruptive organisation is not that easy to get done. It is more
difficult for a company that continually disrupts. In this book, a highly disruptive framework of
leadership has been proposed in which the center of the model focuses on caring deeply. The
book turns care to the main point and proposes a triphasic model. This model shifts from the
individual sphere to corporate or organizational sphere and lastly to global arena. The book then
goes on to analyse the nine key paths that are needed to move the company and gain
organizational excellence.
Each of the nine keys that have described in the book highlights an important way to the
path of organisational excellence. The nine keys that are mentioned are caring deeply, having
clarity, credibility, culture, core team, creativity, construction, disruption and commitment (Kao
2018). There are certain risks associated with the implementation of these strategies that have an
impact on the organisation that uses it. The idea of care being the central point of the model
seems to be too soft for the rough area of business however; many experts argue that it actually
inspires the businesses in providing the direction and structure that lead to great outcomes. The
trends apply to the school life too as for progressing in academics one needs to have clarity,
creativity and a caring attitude (Kao 2018). The risks involved in their implementation include
data breaches, compliance as well as legal violations. There is a reputational risk and problems
involved in fairness and equity when the trends are applied. An organisation can successfully
apply these trends with technology and innovation in order to reach their organisational goals.

Leading change by John Kotter discusses change management. He describes the eight
necessary steps that are needed for cultural change. The eight steps of organisational change are
required to be executed in a specific order so that there is an increase in the chance of
organizational success. The skipping of any of the steps can be directed towards failure to
change. The first step in organizational success is creating urgency (Kotter 2012). The people
have to be made to believe that the present state of the organisation is not appropriate for facing
the future. In the state of emergency, a coalition of change is needed that is step 2 that includes
people that have the power, knowledge, the credibility skills and the leadership skills. Then the
next step 3 is to define the vision. This should include the encouraging people to take action
themselves, coordinating a bigger number of actions and then when the vision is clear, Step 4
includes generating acceptance among the team members. This can be done by sharing the vision
as far as possible. Step 5 includes enabling action in the organisation and this can be done by
changing the organisational system that do not facilitate the changes in the direction towards the
vision (Kotter 2012). The sixth step involves creating short-term wins that can prove that new
goal and direction really works. Resistance in the organisation can reduce when there is a proof
that the new way of working is effective. The seventh step includes sustaining the acceleration of
improvements. The employees should keep on learning from the process of improvement that
was made last. The last step includes anchoring the changes in the corporate culture. There is a
high probability that the people will change their behavior when they are able to see the
connection between the behaviors and the new values and that the combination give improved
results in the process (Kotter 2012).

to improve the circumstances and do so without having to discuss the policies with the

colleagues and their bosses. Even in the academic aspect, the students can apply these eight
steps, change their behaviour accordingly, and get the better of every situation. The risks
involved in applying these trends include ethical as well legal concerns, user privacy and public
safety. The organisations need to celebrate the positive changes and analyse the results and the
journey that led them to such a successful endeavor and made them publicly recognizable to the
people, thus affecting the society. The level of market applicability of these trends would
increase the chances of success for an organisation. The new vision is the starting point in
recruiting and hiring staff and their public recognition is important to increase their productivity.
Disruptive technologies by Paul Armstrong discusses the steps that businesses apply to
the emerging of new technologies in today’s world so that they can serve the customers in a
better way in the upcoming future (Armstrong 2017). Disruptor technologies refers to the
technology that results in the sudden change that affects the technologies and the markets. This
can lead to the destabilization of the previous technology and can increase the chances of new
competitors to take their place. This book discusses the knowledge and the tools that are required
for engaging confidently with the emerging technologies and make way for better business. This
book is a highly practical one that identifies the importance of the emerging technologies like
Blockchain (Bitcoin), nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, grapheme and many external
factors like the sharing economy, ageing population, millennial workforce and mobile
penetration (Armstrong 2017). All these factors affect the business, the service to the client and
the model product.
This book gives a clear outline to analyse, respond and solve problems. It analyses the
changes that are emerging in the technological field. This has been done by applying the quick-
to-master evaluation as well as the decision-making framework that is made around the
colleagues and their bosses. Even in the academic aspect, the students can apply these eight

extremely intelligently provides a guide towards the important disruptive technologies and an
outline of the frameworks activities and the checklists that are needed to evaluate the possibilities
(Armstrong 2017). It enables the prediction of the possible scenarios, implementation of the
plans, various alternative strategies and the capability to handle the changes in an organisation
more effectively. The use of technology and application of these trends would lead the society to
change as access to the new products and services provided by the company might get easier due
to technology. It has its academic applicability too as technology is the necessity in today’s
