“An entrepreneurial leader is better equipped to run a business than a non-entrepreneurial leader
or manager”
MAIN BODY
Difference between Entrepreneurial leaderships and general leadership
Entrepreneurial leadership can be referred as to organizing and managing the workforce
in the organisation in the direction to achieving the desired goal of the organisation. They apply
the formal leadership style in the business and entrepreneurial ventures that affect their business
and profit of the company (Herman, 2016). Their leadership always in the direction to the
achieving the goals by having the innovative ideas, styles, by optimizing the nature and
behaviour of their employees and staff. This entrepreneurial leadership has the set target and
goals in which they set their plans and strategies for their employees and staff to achieve it. This
has the opportunities in their leadership to take advantage of the opportunities available in the
market which can lead to their enterprise in the direction to gain more profit. This entrepreneurial
leadership brings the dynamic change in the organization and change all its working environment
of the company.
There is rising need of the entrepreneurial leadership for any business venture, so that
entrepreneur can lead their team members and all the employees in the right direction to
obtaining the goal (Coccia, 2015). Another need is to formalize the organization structure. For
this they use their skills and approaches that which is associated with the organisational culture,

situation and behaviour of the employees. In order to be better and effective operations and to
drive their business successfully, need to have entrepreneurial leadership. This entrepreneurial
leadership helps the any organization to run effectively and efficiently by using and applied the
effective and suitable skills and approaches. In order to run and drive the effectively and
successful, they have to be skilled that can start their new ventures. This is associated with the
entrepreneurial leadership. In this entrepreneurial leaders spot the gap in the market and try to fill
that gap (McKie & Willis, 2015). This only can b happen with the help of the strong
entrepreneurial leadership skill. In this they identify the new opportunities in the market that can
help to make more profit and also can help to recognize their enterprise name in the market. This
entrepreneurial leadership also helps the company and to employee by taking initiative to make
healthy and good relationship with their employees. This relationship helps the organisation to
make effective a strong planning and strategies as which is favourable to their employee and
employees can work with their full potential in the organisation to accomplishing the task (Esty
& Bell, 2018).
General leadership refers to the leading to the group of individuals for a specific task.
This is just an activity which is performed by an individual in their life to accomplish the specific
task and work. This general leadership not have the specific task but it is ability of the individual
who can adopt the entrepreneurial leadership as well in their business (Boyd & et.al.,2017). This
leadership styles is being adopted by the different activities and working ability of the
organization. In these leaders are not being created by birth by made by themselves by having
the experience and seeing the others in their workplace and effective and strong leaders. This
general leadership helps the individuals to lead their team members and guide the effectively.
This not have specific purpose and target, so that can make strategies and plan as according to
that target and can guide their team members (Lloyd, 2016). This general leadership can be
applied and execute in any situation and any field not specifically in the organization or
enterprise by the entrepreneurial leaders. This general leadership can be applied in the different
fields like in sports to lead their team member, who has the effective and strong leadership skill,
then he or she will be the captain of the team and leader of the team to lead them in achieving the
gaol and to win the match by making effective strategies. In this, leaders having a general
leadership do not apply the different leadership theories and approach which is being applied and
execute by the entrepreneurial leadership styles. In general leadership, leaders have their own

style and technique to lead and guide their team. The leaders in the general leadership style do
not apply the skills and effective approach and theories then their create the problem to
effectively lead their team, then they will not be able to achieve their set target if any. This
general leadership is not being adopted and teach by the any trainer, they do not have any clear
goals and vision. This leadership is not better to achieve the organisation goal as compared to the
entrepreneurial leadership which have clear mindset and vision, target, through which the make
strategies and plans to obtain those target for the enterprise.
Entrepreneurial leadership is more focused towards to their task and target which the
leader want to achieve in the specific time frame (Payne, 2019) Whereas the general leadership is
not being much focused on their task and target, they are neutral towards to their task. It does not
affect them if the task or target is being achieved.
Entrepreneurial leadership has the ability to take more risk, finding opportunities in the
market for their enterprise, so that they can take advantages for their business and can grow
more. On the other hand general leadership not give the ability to adopt and take the more risk
for their take accomplishments. Leaders do not take any risk, even they not have the ability to
find out the opportunities in the external world which can help them to grow more and inn
achieving target.
Entrepreneurs or leaders in the entrepreneurial leaders are skilled and apply the different
leadership theories and approaches as well. This give them ease to maintain the workplace
healthy and positive for their employees (Donate & de Pablo, 2015). Who can then contribute to
the organization to drive it smoothly and to obtain the target. Whereas the leaders in general
leadership do not apply the different leadership styles, any approaches and theories in their work,
they simply lead their team towards to their task.
Entrepreneurial leadership have the clear vision, mission, objective and target, through
which they plan all their strategies and planing to accomplish it. On the other hand general
leadership do have the clear goals, vision and objective through which they can make their all
planning and strategies effectively in the direction to achieve it.
Historical and contemporary theorise of leadership
Great man theory has been evolved in mid 19th century. According to this theory of the
great man, successful and strong leaders are born they are not being leaders taught by any other.
As according to this theory, great leaders are made and destined by birth (Renko & et.al., 2015).

This leadership skill is arises as according to the situation when anyone or individual face that
situation. Then this leadership skill has been created from the individual who have the leadership
quality by birth. Else the leaders can not lead their team effectively and even after getting the
training and experience from their workplace. According to this theory, people having the same
set of the traits and quality of the leaders that help to understand their post and position in the
organization and are responsible to their work, by having their skill of the leaders.
Trait theory identified that individuals either can be made or birth with having the same
set of the quality and skills that make the skilled and perfect their respective field. These
qualities and skills might be sense of responsibilities, intelligence, creativity, work ethics and
values that make them different and good leaders in the organization as compared to the other
employees (Ward, 2016). According to this theory, good and effective leaders have the ability,
interest, traits of personality that make them effective and strong leaders as compare to others in
the business organization. All these personality traits help them to accomplishing their task and
toward their team effectively. If the leaders not created by birth then they can be made by
training, experience and learning from others y adopting different styles and skills of others. This
has the advantage that, in this leaders have high level of efforts, energy and ambition through
which leaders work effectively to lead and making strategies for their team and organization.
Behavioural theory (1940's - 1950's) of the leadership is basically focused on the
behaviour of the people and specific leader;s behaviour. Leaders behaviour is one of the greatest
trait that reflect the best behaviour to their skills and talent of the leaders quality. This theory is
based on the behaviour and actions of the leaders, that helps to reflect their strong quality,
characteristics and values of leaders. That can be observed by their behaviour. Any employee or
individual from the organization can easily identify the effective and good leaders in their
organization only on the basis of their behaviour and actions (Koryak & et.al., 2015). This theory
helps the employees and individual the organization to learn and get skilled in the leadership by
seeing the behaviour and actions of the great leaders in the organization. This will help the
organization and entrepreneur to bring more effective and strong leaders in their enterprise which
can lead the different team by having the different goals and task in order to achieve the target of
the company.
Contingency theory (1960's) argued that, there is n specific theory and style of the
leadership that must be applied in the organization to effectively lead their employees in the

particular situation. As according to the contingency theory of the leadership, person having the
leadership skills can only perform best in certain places, if any elements is being eliminated from
their leadership style, then this will affect their leadership style and minimize their skill (Henry
& et.al., 2015). Leaders in this leadership theory is more likely to be performed their leadership
skills effectively when they get to know or seen that their followers or the team members give
the positive and effective response to them this will affect their leadership style and help them to
work and lead their team more powerfully and strongly in order to achieve the target. In this
situation leaders feel confident and like to express their knowledge and experience with their
employees or the team members so that they can perform all their task in the organization
efficiently.
Transactional theory of the leadership is based on the motivating and encouraging their
team members on the basis of their work and performance in the organisation. This leadership
style focus on the employees and its performance. This leadership power is comes from the
upper authority of the organisation and the employer's objective is to follow the instructions of
their leaders in a way to accomplish the task effectively (Leitch & Volery, 2017). As according
to this leadership theory leaders are more concern and believes in rewards and punishment to
their employees as on the basis of their work performance. In this exchange of the followers and
leaders takes place to achieve performance goals. This includes the different exchange
dimensions, like contingent rewards, active management by expectation, passive management by
exception. This help the leaders of the organization with the transactional leadership to manage
their employees and effective motivate the by giving reward as according to their performance.
Transformational leadership (1970's) is stated that this transformational leadership style
Is mainly focus on to interacting with each other and maintain the relationship with their team
members. This will help the leaders to motivate, encourage them and to give them clear guidance
so that they can effectively understand their responsibilities and can have the clear goal so that
can work accordingly in order to achieve the target (Antonakis & Day, 2017). In this leaders help
their employees and team members with the transformational leadership theory, as by having the
active and healthy relation with their team members. This theory enables the leaders to create the
health environment in their team members so that can listen to their leaders and willingly follow
their instructions and also will work according to their strategies. This will help the leaders, that

employees can trust them easily by having the health relation with their team leaders and also
work for their leaders to accomplish the task.
Leaders - members exchanges theory is in respect of maintaining the close
relationship with the leaders and the employees if the work and task which they exchange and
discuss such matter which they face while accomplishing such work in better perspective. In this
theory the leaders and members help each other to accomplish the task and also resoled it in
better manner if any of the person faces issue in solving it. This is the major factors in using the
contemporary leadership style in entrepreneurial leadership (McKie & Willis, 2015). As during
the enterprise this style is to be used between the member and leaders and they also came to
know to achieve task to work as team. The major advantages in using this theory is that the
members are liable to complete their own task and duty and leaders in return are liable to pay
them rewards and increment if they achieve such goal and targets within the stipulated time.
Thus, the members and leaders can exchange their thoughts and ideas and can implement to
accomplish better work. Thus, it results in maintaining the closer relationship between the
employer and employees and also it enhances the image of the company by reflecting the unity
in their work places. The leaders are helpful in achieving the task to their members and members
in return follow the norms and guidelines given by the leaders in accurate format to accomplish
such activity.
The another contemporary leadership style which is used in 21st century is related to
Servant leadership style as the main purpose of their style is to keep the employees firsts and also
enhances their priority regarding their needs and demand which is to be accomplished by the
leaders so thy they maintain the interests of the employees in the company for longer time period
(Herman, 2016). The servant leadership is mainly to be interpreted to help the employees to
reach to their goal and also face challenges by not distracting the mind of the employees form
their work and they can accomplish such task in better way. The main advantages of servant
leaders is that they sacrifice their own success by helping their employees to achieve goal. They
put as many efforts to entertain their employees towards their task and also examines the easiest
strategy so that they can complete such activity without wasting any such time to complete it.
In case of participative leadership theory this mainly used to interact with all the team
members to make them conformable to participate in different social activity or any other
activity which enhance their learning skills. By their leadership style they maintain the close
Document Page
relationship with the employees by motivating them to participate inn team activity and also
learn to work as team to achieve task in any project within the stipulated time. As the main
advantages of using such leadership style is that they can communicate with each and every team
members and they also take ideas from them which helps to bring changes in the working criteria
and the procedure which they used to follow to accomplish such task in accurate way (Herman,
2016). In this theory, employees are feel more secured and important as the decision are to be
discussed by them through their leaders also their judgement are to be taken in their decision
which helps them to bring changes in their company working. If employees are given such
liability it results in bringing more retention and also more production which increase the sales in
the company. It is also helps to represent the company in market by their more involvement of
employees in effective decision making and also they are given chances to bring changes in
company working at large scale. In this to maintain the interests for employees in longer term
they need to changes their strategies to bring innovation in their work and also to attract their
interest in such projects for certain time period.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it is to be concluded that business leadership is useful for growth of
their business for longer term if they are to be trained and examined in right way. There are
various method which is used by leaders to motivate their employees to accomplish such task in
better way. Usually there are various leadership style which is to be discussed in above matters
but to implement the best strategy is in the hand of the leaders. As the style are to be
implemented according to the needs and demands of their employees and also the situation
which they had to face to achieve goal and strategies in better way. Business uses the leadership
style to solve problems and matters which arises at the time of working or it is also to be initiated
when crucial decision is taken in the company and resulting in bringing more productive results.
