1. By analysing the three readings consist of two books and one article naming ‘Give and
Take’ and ‘Originals’ by Adam Grant and ‘Goal Setting as a Motivator of Unethical
Behaviour’ by (Schweitzer, Ordonez, & Douma, 2004), I have learnt about various
leadership styles, behaviours, and abilities which are necessary to become a good leader.
The first article ‘Give and take’ discusses about the behaviour of a person in order to
become successful. This study shows that givers dominate both the top and the bottom
ladders of the success (Grant A. M., 2013). However, success is achieved by both the
givers and takers but as compared to a taker, success of giver is spread and creates a
ripple effect leading to the success of other people around them. Although, several
drawbacks are associated with givers but benefits of a giver’s success overweighs those
drawbacks (Grant A. M., 2013). The second study discusses about originality or
innovative and creative ideas of people who desire to be achieve something unique or the
people who lead the things in complete different ways (Grant A. , 2017). The third article
describes cause of unethical behaviour is goal setting. This means that unrealistic goals
lead to adopt unethical behaviour by people to achieve the set target or goal (Schweitzer,
Ordonez, & Douma, 2004). Hence, from the analysis of all these three readings, I get to
know that my leadership style is of transformational leader as I too appreciate innovation
and creativity. I always think out of the box and take ways which are innovative and not
go with the default settings. I have the ability of taking risks and find solutions for
challenges that come in way of my success. I also believe in ethical practices to achieve
my goals and believe in helping others. However, I do not consider myself as giver or
taker because I am not the person who becomes doormat for people and neither the

person who always think about my benefits on priority. My behaviour is similar to a
‘matcher’ who makes a balance between giving and taking (Grant A. M., 2013).
2. However, from the analysis of these three readings, I discovered that my leadership style
is more similar to transformational leadership as I support innovation, creativity, and
originality. However, through self-assessment I discovered that my approach of adopting
the behaviour of a ‘matcher’ is not that much be beneficial for me to become a good
leader in future. The ‘Give and Take’ book by Adam Grant suggests that most of the
great leaders are ‘givers’. However, there are several challenges, drawbacks, and barriers
associated with the giving approach of leadership but facing all these challenges and still
not giving up on one self’s moral values makes a person a true or great leader (Grant A.
M., 2013). The article also suggests that the most successful leaders are the givers and
their success creates a ripple effect which motivates other people enhance their success.
Success of givers is considered as the most ethical success (Gino, 2015) and thus I need
to develop this quality within me in order to develop mu leadership skills and qualities
from future perspective. These kinds of leaders are the one who help and guide other
people or his/her followers in the most effective way and contribute in the process of
developing other leaders (Gino, 2015). Hence, I need to develop and work on this area in
order to enhance my approach of taking a simple method or way when it comes to
dealing with other people. Keeping balance between giving and taking, however, makes a
person successful and allows him/her to avoid any kind of conflicts but will not make
him/her a great leader.
