What is the value of leadership to the management of an organization?’
Leadership is the power to influence others and get things done from them. Management
uses different leadership styles to bring employees together and to guide them towards the
common goal of an organization. It is a crucial aspect for the success of organization because
leadership is one of the effective ways to motivate workforce in achieving the specified targets
(Adair, 2011). Leadership skills can be developed in a leader through different means or some
people already possess inborn leadership qualities. It assists them to lead others and to determine
long run growth of company. Management uses following leadership styles in the organization as
per the situations- Laissez-Faire- It is an effective leadership style wherein management focuses upon
highly skilled employees who require comparatively less guidance. It gives relaxation to
management or leader because employees manage their work at their own. However, less
efforts are put by the managers which in turn may hamper the production activities as
well as cost of production may also increase (Johnson, 2015). Autocratic- It is another style of leadership wherein management has tight control over
employees. They make all the decisions at their level and impose their will on employees
(Bertocci, 2009). However, this kind of leadership style is good in case if employees are
not experienced enough and need close supervision. With the help of autocratic style of
leadership, management can bring change at the workplace so as to cope up with the
changing scenario. A counter argument might be that, autocratic leadership style de-
motivates employees at some point of time. This is because they do not get rewards and
also their participation in decision making process is never invited.
Participative- This leadership style values for their employees by taking suggestions and
other inputs from them. It motivates the workforce and boosts their morale to perform
better in the direction of growth and success of firm. Here, all the decisions are made by
personnel but the final decision rests with the manager or leader. This style of leadership
generates positive attitude among followers and retain them for longer time span (Bishop,
2012).
All these leadership styles enable the management to motivate teamwork at workplace
and ensure long run growth of the firm. Effective style of leadership makes it possible for the

management to expand business at global level. It leads to increase the sales turnover and
profitability (Importance of Leadership, 2015). Apart from this, leadership facilitates
management to build work environment where workforce contributes towards the success of
firm. It helps the organization to gain competitive edge at the marketplace with increased rate of
return. In addition to this, most of the time, management adopts situational leadership style
thereby they react as per the requirement of situation (Carneiro, 2008). At this juncture,
workforce is provided with appropriate guidance so as to improve the performance of
corporation. Other than this, different qualities of leader such as punctuality, good vision,
ambitious and perfect personality. Along with that, coordinator, high level of confidence as well
as good motivator is some of the key aspects which help management to carry out all business
activities with proper management of workforce.
