WHAT IS THE VALUE OF LEADERSHIP TO THE MANAGEMENT OF AN
ORGANISATION?
Leadership is an activity in which a person acts as a leader and has the ability and capability to
guide a group of people to act in manner according to the leader for the purpose of attaining the goals
and objectives of organisation (Searle, 2009). It can be said that leaders plays the most crucial role in
achieving the organisational goals and objectives in most effective and efficient manner. They are the
individual who has the ability to transform organisations vision and mission statements into reality
(Miner, 2013).
Meaning of leadership
According to Mindy Gibbins-Klein, a leadership can be defined as
“Leadership is having a vision, sharing that vision and inspiring others to support your vision
while creating their own (Helmrich, 2015).”
Therefore, in simple terms leadership can be described as an activity which is essential in an
organisation so that employees can work more effectively and efficiently under the proper guidance.
Leadership and management
Leadership and management are totally two different concepts. In leadership, leaders mainly
focus on getting work done through other people to attain the stated objectives. On the contrary,
management is the process which involves planning, organising, directing, leading and controlling the
overall activities in an organisation to attain goals and objectives of company in most effective and
efficient way (Leadership and management. 2012).
However, in-spite of the difference between two concepts that is leadership and management,
leadership provides a greater value to the management of an organisation.
Role of leadership in managing the organisation;
For the successful running of an organisation, effective leadership is essential. The importance
of leadership in management cannot be ignored. In an organisation, mangers sometimes act as leaders
in order to get the work done from employees in most suitable manner. In every company, teams are
formed for completing a part of project which is assigned to them. Herein, every team has a member
who plays the role of leaders and properly guides the behaviour of teammates towards attainment of
objectives of the team (Chand, 2015).
Leadership is the most vital factor of management which assist in enhancing the efficiency and
to attain company's ultimate goals and objectives in most feasible manner. However, it can be said that
leadership provides a greater value to management of an organisation with the help of following points

which will clearly justify the value of leading towards management. These points are as follows: Initiates action: Leaders help the management by taking initiation in making the employees to
start their work in company in accordance with the goals which are decided by the managers.
Leaders help in communicating organisations policies and plans to the subordinates (Huemann,
Keegan and Turner, 2007).
Motivation: The other way by which the leaders can provide greater value to the management of
the organisation is by increasing the motivational levels of employees. This increases the
morale of employees which act as positive factor and helps in retaining the workers in the
organisation for longer period and also increases the satisfaction level. As result employees
turnovers and conflicts within the organisation can be reduced (Gill, 2007).
Therefore, summing up this it can be said that, Yes there is a great value of leadership to
management in an organisation. The justification to the stated answer can be that this activity helps
management to execute the functions of an organisation in the most appropriate form. Also,
management will not have to face the problem related with shortages of the resources in terms of
human and raw materials.
