Introduction
Lean project management refers to the practice of lean principles in projects by using data-driven
methods with the emphasis of continuous improvement in processes. Lean management in
projects is highly useful for the manufacturing projects in which product or service is developed.
The report will provide an overview of the significance of implementing project management
processes in different phases of a project. The report will develop a project for developing a new
home in Australia. For this, the report will implement project management processes in choosing
the suburb, land size and most suitable builder for the new home. It will also identify project
stakeholders. It will analyze the factors affecting the dream home’s design and layout. At last, it
will require the implementation of best lean practices for attaining the lean project management
in this project.

1. Select and explain the project management processes under PMBOK.
Project management considers as a significant part of the project required for project success.
Project management is the concept of implementing certain functions such as initiation,
planning, execution, controlling and closure of project at a pre-determined time within specific
criteria. The main aim of project management identifies as the attainment of project goals and
objectives effectively and efficiently (Steinman, 2017). As per the PMBOK guide, the process of
project management is grouped into 5 categories named initiation, planning, execution,
controlling and closure. PMBOK has provided numerous processes for project management as
per the suitability of activities. In this report, the project management processes would help in
choosing the right suburb, land size and builder for the new home.
a. Choosing the suburb and deciding the land size
Moving to a new city in Australia and choosing the suburb and deciding the land size is a
complicated and time-consuming process. Building a dream home in an Australian suburb
requires a huge amount of research and time. For this purpose, the project management process
will include:
Initiation: In this phase, a project charter will develop for defining the scope, stakeholders, and
objectives of the project. For the current purpose, the main objective of the project is to select a
suburb and land size for the new dream home. The project scope is to research and identify all
the suburbs, estimating the costs, considerations while deciding the land size and choosing the
most suitable land size and suburb (Kumaraswamy, et. al., 2017). In this project charter, key
considerations while choosing the right suburb would be taken into account such as local
amenities, suitability as per personal requirement, social demographics and safety and so on.
Planning: In this phase, the definition of activities, cost estimation, quality management plan
and resource management would be considered. These activities would use for choosing the
suitable land size for the new dream home. The definition of activities would include what
activities would be required for deciding the land size. These activities would include the
location of land, members to be lived, home size and at last the availability of financial
resources. It should be considered while deciding on the land size that land size also depends on
the type of building that would be developed. In this case, the land size would determine as per

regarding the acquisition of land. The quality management plan would assist in ensuring the
acquisition of land having good quality within the estimated cost (Corona-Suarez, et. al., 2014).

resource management plan would include the availability of finance and human resources for the
acquisition of land with adequate size and quality.
b. Choosing the right builder for the new dream home
Construction of a building, whether residential or commercial or others, has always been a
complex process. An individual invests a huge amount of money for building his dream home.
While selecting the right builder, an individual must take into account certain considerations.
These considerations would ensure the construction of a dream house as per the requirements
and quality and would make sure to justify the investment in the builder and dream home project.
The project of choosing the most appropriate builder for the new dream home would undertake
in the execution phase.
In choosing the right builder, the processes such as manage project knowledge, quality
management, team development, communication management and managing stakeholder
engagement would adopt. While choosing the right builder, it is necessary to research the

expectations For this purpose, the key project management processes such as identification of
stakeholders, planning the stakeholder engagement, management of stakeholder engagement and
monitoring the stakeholder management. Using the process of stakeholder identification, the
stakeholders of the current project would identify as contractors, suppliers, architects, labourers,

tools & techniques and outputs.
The stakeholder engagement plan would assign the roles and responsibilities to the stakeholders
as well as considering their expectations with this project. Under managing stakeholder
engagement, it would ensure the stakeholder commitment and expectations at all the project
levels. It would also include the development of strategies for ensuring stakeholder engagement
at all project levels. Monitoring stakeholder engagement would include identifying issues and

These project management processes would help in the achievement of certain tasks essential for

layout of the dream home for ensuring its efficiency, effectiveness and sustainable as well.
Therefore, for the project of dream home construction, the following considerations would be
determined:
Firstly, the most considerable aspect while determining the house design and layout has been
identified as the latest trends. The design and layout should be according to the latest trends so
that the house may look trendy and new. Using the latest trends, the house construction may
undertake as per the requirements and using the latest construction styles for the house. It is
because the latest construction styles ensure the attainment of high quality.
Flexibility should integrate into the house design and layout for attaining sustainability and
efficiency. Every house when originally built gets modified after some years either for
renovation or expansion. Therefore, it should be considered that the house facilities should be
designed in a way that can enable future expansion (Ozturk, et. al., 2016). It is necessary to

Implementation of certain lean practices would enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the
entire project.
Firstly, the identification of stakeholders is significant for any project as who would be the
stakeholders of this project. It would assist in understanding their role and responsibility in this
project life cycle (Xue, et. al., 2018). It is because the stakeholders are the supporters of project
success and they help in attaining project objectives and vision more productively.
In this project, the most significant resource for building a new dream home would be finance
and people. There would be a need for resource management in which resources are estimates,
acquired, managed, and controlled. It would help in building a new dream home within the
available resources such as finance. It would use during the project of deciding the suburb and
land size and choosing the best builder.
Identifying constraints and risks are significant for any project success. In this project, the
project manager would require emphasizing on the risks and constraints pertained to the house
construction. These risks and constraints are the barriers to attaining higher efficiency in a house
construction project. These risks and constraints when not identified and controlled on time may
lead to damage the project efficiency and success.
Value stream mapping considers a vital lean practice for project management. Value stream
mapping refers to the visual representation of the project activities and management at the
current and desired state. With value stream mapping, the project activities are visually
represented that are required for the project completion in a way that it can enhance overall value
(Matt, 2014). This practice would help the house construction project to identify all the necessary

As per the lean principles and practices, communication is significant universally for the
organizations as well as individuals. In project management, communication acts as the blood to
a body by undertaking a continuous flow of information. Communication provides an open
platform for the project stakeholders and management for information sharing. In lean project
management, many times the processes and operations flow may get interrupted due to the
irregular or disturbed flow of information. Therefore, for practising lean principles, there should
a fostering of communication culture where individuals are free for communicating with each
other.
Continuous improvement refers to an ongoing process for improving the products, services and
processes. In lean project management, this process includes efforts for improving the processes
and outcomes of the house construction project (Peter, et. al., 2013). Also, in this project, the
continuous improvement would aim for the improvement of not only the processes but also the
people working on the project. Improving people would indicate to provide ongoing learning and
training opportunities to people over the project lifecycle. It would help in enhancing the
productivity of the people and ensuring quality development of dream house.
