Introduction
Projects and events in the contemporary world are wide scaled and require different approaches
and processes to manage and organise the systems. The projects in sports industry have observed
an increase in magnitude and areas covered through online and offline mediums. The projects
require multiple services such as planning, organising, financing, and controlling etc. The
projects require activities of effective project management or operations for accomplishing aims
and objectives in a strategic manner (Alleman, 2015). These projects require for management of
events and application of diversified approaches to identify and evaluate the processes and
strategies. The event identified in this project is FIFA Football World Cup Tournament to be
held in Qatar 2022. The managers of this project are to study different aspects and origins in the
fields of stakeholder management, critical management, planning, and organisation etc. This
report will define for critical stakeholders, application of PMBOK, Prince 2, Organisational
Project Management, Agile Practices, and Lean Six Sigma in the respect of Lean Project
Management.
The approach of Lean Management is identified as a project management approach in which
processes and approaches for developing the desired project results and outcomes. Lean
management focuses on reducing the processes to increase productivity and decrease wastage or
errors in the project. It applies the strategies of continuous improvement, incremental changes,
and long term approach management. Lean management creates opportunities for increasing
productivity and also saves up the costs and finances for the projects. This approach can be
applied in different manners in the sphere of FIFA Football World Cup Tournament 2022 to
reduce costs and manage the project in an effective.
Overview of the event
The FIFA 2022 Qatar Football Tournament World Cup will be held in the late November and
will end by 18th December 2022 as it the Qatar National Day. The tournament includes for 32
teams those are directed to compete against each other in the time frame of 28 days. The title of
the championship will be defended by the defending champions France. FIFA 2022 is the first
football tournament to be held in an Arab country.

The processes from PMBOK in Stakeholder Management
According to the Project Management Book of Knowledge, stakeholder management is an
essential and integral process in project management. Stakeholder management enables to
manage and administrate different projects in an effective and efficient manner. Stakeholder
management identifies the shareholders, plans for its management and integrates these
individuals or groups in order to communicate and manage in an effective manner. The
processes involved in stakeholder management are elaborated as below.
Identify Stakeholder
The first process is to develop a project charter that includes the information of different
stakeholders that are involved in the project and are impacted by the project processes and
deliverables. This charter includes for the customer, sponsors, project team members, project
managers, project association, and external organizations. The next stage is to procure different
documentation related to the project contracts and outsourcing furnished in the project (Doloi,
2012). This stage also includes for identifying the factors that are crucial for stakeholder
identification such as organizational culture, structure, government regulations and geographical
trends. The last stage is to administrate the stakeholders as per the organizational process assets
such as templates for stakeholder registers; lessons learned in previous projects, stakeholder or
member sheets.
Plan Stakeholder
Planning stakeholder management accounts for identifying the stakeholder expectations from the
project activities and processes in order to shape for the project deliverables and processes in an
effective and systematic manner. It is necessary for the project managers to plan for the
stakeholder management in order to ensure for creating and maintaining relationships for the
project teams and the stakeholders (Kahn, et. al., 2012). In the process of planning the
stakeholder management, it is also necessary to review for any adjust to being made in the
policies and decisions in order to accomplish the project processes.

Manage Stakeholder
This stage requires educating the stakeholder timely about the projects needs and requirements. It
also facilitates for informing the stakeholders of alterations in the processes in order to seek
approval of the affected stakeholders. Regular communication is held with the stakeholders in
order to meet any requirements and answer for any of the issues that the stakeholders are facing.
Control Stakeholder
This last stage of stakeholder engagement control is related to the monitoring the stakeholder
relationships and establishing strategies as per the needs and requirements of the stakeholders
(Koskela & Howell, 2013). Monitoring of stakeholder creates the abilities for adjusting the
strategies as per the stakeholder’s requirements and needs.

The project of FIFA Football World Cup Tournament to be held in 2022 in Qatar entails various
stakeholders that are impacted by the performance and the functions of the project. These
stakeholders are identified on the basis of different criteria such as the level of interest and share
of investment provided by the stakeholder in the project or the program. The stakeholders

The tournament covers various segments and structures where the approaches of Lean Project
Management can be applied. These areas are discussed as below:

Various processes and approaches have been applied in the FIFA world cup football tournament
2022 Qatar in order to implement the practice of lean project management. The practice of these
approaches will enable to reduce the costs, processes, and strategies involved in the process. The
application of lean management provides with approaches to resort with reducing the waste
created in the project that adds up the costs and finances for the projects and its budgets. The
application of lean management also creates possibilities for improving the performance and
outcomes of the project. The effective and efficient application of lean project and its various
approaches are discussed in the sections below.
PMBOK: Project Management Book of knowledge is a book which contains various processes
and principles that aids in managing and organising the projects in an effective and efficient
manner. The PMBOK is a part of Project Management Institution where project quality
management, stakeholder management, communication and stakeholder engagement etc. are
strategically studied and presented. There are several approaches from the PMBOK applied in
the project of FIFA 2022 in order to apply lean project management. The approach of Project
Resource Management, Project Procurement Management, and Project Communication
Management have been used in order to implement the thoughts of Lean Project Management
(Conforto, et. al., 2014). The approach of Project Resource Management covers for processes
that require for identifying, managing and acquiring the resources required in the project. This
approach creates the opportunities to study for the people, equipment, machine, materials, and
finances required in the projects. This approach ensures for adequate and appropriate allocation
of resources is furnished in order to support for project accomplishment and attainment. The
activities involved in Project Resource Management includes for Planning, estimating, acquiring,
developing teams, managing, and controlling resources.
The approach of Project Procurement Management has been applied in the FIFA 2022 Qatar in
order to implement the benefits of Lean Project Management in the area of Food Supply
Management. In this approach and activity, the project communication is taken in a specific and
systematic manner. The activities included are plan communication management, manage
communication, and monitor communication processes and channels.

The approach of Project Communication Management is also practiced in the project in order to
avail the benefits of lean project management. The project communication management resorts
for ensuring the proper and appropriate transfer of information and details required in the project
towards all the project stakeholders (Alleman, 2015). The process ensures for transfer of right
information at the right time to the right stakeholders. Stakeholder communication management
is necessary in order to ensure for sustainability and success of the projects.
PRINCE 2: This is an approach in which different principles are provided in order to manage
and administrate in an effective manner. The approach of PRINCE 2 provides with principles
such as Continued Business Justification, Learn from Experience, Defined Roles and
Responsibilities, Manage by Stages, Manage by Exception and Focus on Products. The principle
of Learn from Experience has been applied in the area of Stakeholder Management in the FIFA
2022 world cup. The principle of Learn from Experience enables to learn from the past practices
and activities of project management and administration. This principle aids in learning from
past records and systems in an effective manner. The hit and try approach are eliminated and aids
in the cost cutting. The experiences from past projects are sued by the project teams in the
current projects to resolve any conflict or issue. The records and documentations from the past
projects are used in order to identify the best applicable approach and policy to resolve the issues
and practice effective stakeholder management (Doloi, 2012). The area of stakeholder

effective manner. The stakeholder management creates the possibilities to educate the
stakeholders about any changes or variations in the planned activities of the project. The Agile

stakeholders. The practice of increased communication in an effective form is adopted from the
Agile practices in the project of FIFA 2022 (Koskela & Howell, 2013). The practiced derives of

stakeholders such as the project teams and members are informed of the changes in planned
activities immediately through the software developed in the Agile practices. The software
informs the external stakeholders of changes by rolling out emails, memorandums, and notices

stakeholder management. Feedbacks are also collected from the stakeholders in order to ensure a
two and effective communication is practiced in the project.
Lean Six Sigma: The approach of Defining and Controlling from Lean Six Sigma is adopted in
the area of processing for FIFA 2022. The approach of Defining is used in order to define for the
processes in collaboration with the objectives and goals of the projects. The defining principle
forms the DMAIC approach in Six Sigma is applied to strategically develop the processes and
the activities applied in the project. This approach studies for the opportunities to improve the
processes and structures as per the project requirements. These approaches are identified as per
the collaboration with the project aims and the ones providing with maximum share of profits
and revenues for the projects. Another approach of Controlling is also adopted in the area of
Processing in FIFA 2022 in order to control for the improvement processes (Nicholas & Steyn,
2017). The controlling activity looks after how to guarantee the performance accrued from the
improvements and changes established in the processes. These approaches from the Lean Six
Sigma provide a reduction in wastage by controlling for unnecessary processes and activities that

management in the project of FIFA 2022 by implying the activities of project management as

different teams, resources and leaders practice the functions and accomplishing the collaborative
project.
Conclusion
From the above discussions and opinions, it can be inferred that projects planned on wider scales
and dimensions require effective management and organising. The project identified in this
report includes for a case study of organising FIFA 2022 to be held in Qatar. The project is based
on the application of Lean project management in the project to reduce the costs and wastage in
order to increase the returns and revenues from the projects. The report has applied Lean Project
Management methodologies such as Organisation Project Management, Agile Practices, Lean
Six Sigma, PMBOK and PRINCE 2.
