Introduction
The present is designed for highlighting the importance of lean project management. In this
context, an event known as FIFA World Cup is considered which is going to be held in Qatar in
the year 2022. The lean project management will be used in this sports event to organise and
manage that in the proper manner. In addition to this, the way of managing stakeholders such as
PMBOOK or Prince2 will also be discussed here. The critical stakeholders will be identified for
this event. The processes from PMBOOK, PRINCE2, Agile Practices, and Lean Six Sigma,
Organisational Project Management, etc. will also be highlighted that would help in
implementing the lean project management.

1. With regards to the event that you have chosen to organise, identify and elaborate
a. The processes from PMBOK or Prince2 that you would use to help with the stakeholder
management
PMBOK stands for Project Management Body of Knowledge that comprises of five phases such
as conception and initiation, planning, execution, performance and monitoring and, closing
(Roseke, 2018). This is a type of waterfall methodology that can be used in FIFA World Cup
2022 in appropriately managing the stakeholders. The common steps used in the management of
stakeholders of FIFA World Cup 2022 according to PMBOOK are mentioned below:
1. Identification of stakeholders: In this step, it is important to assure that all the stakeholders
of FIFA World Cup 2022 are satisfied. The project is started by keeping the key stakeholders in
mind. In this context, a list of stakeholders should be created. Various techniques can be used in
determining key stakeholders which are described below:
 Conduction of Brainstorming sessions: Some of the questions like who are directly and
indirectly engaged with the event of FIFA World Cup 2022, which may get impacted by this
project, who are the suppliers and shareholders of this sports event, etc.
 Interview session: An interview session should also be arranged with the small and
medium-sized enterprises and the main stakeholders so that discussion can be carried on
regarding the contribution of such stakeholders in the sports events.
 Contract: An agreement should be applied between suppliers and vendors of FIFA
World Cup 2022.
 Analysis of Social network: This technique helps in showing all the stakeholders in the
project and any social links between other actors that are present in FIFA World Cup 2022.
2. Classification of stakeholders: This is to be noted that not all stakeholders have similar
interest or influence on the FIFA World Cup 2022. Thus, it is essential to segment the
identified stakeholders into particular groups to manage their expectations. Some of the
methods of classifying the stakeholders are the following:
 Power or Interest grid: The division of stakeholders is done by the level of authority
and the level of concern about the results of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

 Power or Influence grid: Here the bifurcation is performed on the ground of level of
engagement and authority in the sporting event (Roseke, 2018).
 Power or Impact grid: Here the segmentation is done on the ground of level of
impacting changes and the level of power on the project actions of FIFA World Cup 2022.
 Salience model: This model generally explains the category of stakeholders of FIFA
World Cup 2022 by their legitimacy, power, and urgency.
3. Development of stakeholder management strategy: This strategy is used to define a way to
enhance the support and reduce the negative implications of stakeholders in the entire life cycle
of FIFA World Cup 2022.
4. Plan Stakeholder communications: The planning should be done regarding creating
effective communication with all the stakeholders. This can be done by using digital
technologies such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Messenger, etc. to make an immediate and instant
connection with the entire stakeholders.
5. Execute communication plan: The communication plan would be executed for distributing
the information and reports to manage the expectations of stakeholders. If effective
communication will not be carried on properly, then misunderstanding would get created. This
will give negative impact on the overall launching of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Thus, it is
essential to create an effective communication plan so that the entire sports event can be carried
on in the proper manner (Pons, 2018).

The steps involved in the process of managing the stakeholders are summarised below:
 Understanding the culture of the stakeholders;
 Identification of support and opposition of stakeholders;
 Determining the level of influence of stakeholders;
 Creating the priority regarding stakeholders;
 Developing the communication strategy;
 Development of stakeholder register;
 Updating or revising the plan of stakeholder management; and

b. The critical stakeholders for the event
The critical stakeholders of FIFA World Cup 2022 are mentioned below:
Stakeholders Description
Guests
These are customers who usually come to visit
and enjoy the events which are arranged in the
FIFA World Cup 2022. They spend a lot of
money on purchasing the tickets and give their
precious time to the events.
Organisers They are known as the main stakeholders of
this sports event. They are having the duty of
implementing every action associated with the
FIFA World Cup 2022. The organisers of this
event are nothing but the authority of the
hosting nation, committee member of the
stadium and other key authorities.
Workers They are considered as those individuals who
work for the management of the whole event.
The key workforces are volunteers and
employers or managers of the respective event.
Contributors They are those members who used to give
great contribution in the execution of the event.
Suppliers These people used to supply essential raw
materials for the execution of a sport’s event.
Some of the things like decorations, sport’s
material and other arrangements are commonly
done by suppliers.
Committee members of FIFA World Cup They used to take an important decision
regarding the implementation of the events.
Meetings are arranged for this purpose and

discussion goes on about the same so that
correct decision can be made effectively.
Shareholders Some important people give a particular
amount of share in the organisation of the
event like FIFA World Cup 2022. After the
completion of games, each member or
shareholders would receive their amount of
revenues which they have invested for the
successful implementation of the sports.
The above-based stakeholders play a critical role in the FIFA World Cup 2022. An individual
like shareholders, committee member of event, suppliers, contributors, workers, guests, and
organiser are giving a great contribution in the launching of sports event which will be held in
2022. They all are giving their precious time as well as money so that successful implementation
of games can be done (Kendrick, 2015). Thus, it is important for the project manager to improve
the level of communication so that important messages and information can be shared with them.
By this way, all of them can contribute to the process of decision making, and the effective
decision can be made that will be in favour of events.
2. In what ways would you have implemented lean project management for this event?
(You need to identify and elaborate the areas and opportunities where you can eliminate
waste).
Lean project management is the application of lean concepts like lean thinking, lean construction
and lean manufacturing to the project management. This is considered as a method that is applied
for the elimination of the waste from the whole events of FIFA World Cup 2022. This approach
makes obvious addition of values by eliminating everything else which would not add value to
the project. Four ways can be used for implementing lean project management within this event.
Such ways are elaborated below in detail:

 Keeping eyes on the customers: This is considered as one of the important aspects of
lean management. Regardless of creating an elaborate system for figuring out the
demands, the better idea is to determine the direct way to connect with customers and
know about their demands (Ipsaro, 2014). Here the customer does not mean only the end
users, but it can be the next person who is going to receive the work. The games should
be selected as per the interest of the customers as they will come to watch and enjoy the
same.
 Focus on value: Another key tenet of lean is to create value so that customer remains
satisfied from the events. For this, committee member of the FIFA World Cup should
take appropriate decisions regarding which sport should be carried on.
 Being more agile: An Agile approach can be used in the preparation of FIFA World Cup
2022. This is mainly done for breaking the lengthier projects with important components
into reasonable chunks (Axelos, 2017). For this, important games should be considered
so that customers may not get bored. Agile yields a quicker process rather than
consuming more time in creating complicated processes.
 Give project visibility: Lean manufacturing programs are known for its great visibility
since the waste materials get removed from the project. If lean project management
would be applied in FIFA World Cup 2022, the particular amount of waste will get
eliminated effectively. After removal of waste materials, the event get more visible and
effectual. Thus it would help in seeking the attention of a large number of audiences
towards the event.
By applying the processes mentioned above or ways of lean project management, the issues of
FIFA World Cup 2022 can be resolved effectively. The value of all the events get improved as
the waste processes will be eliminated by applying the similar tool. The quality of games will be
enhanced suitably and this will thus contribute in the successful launching of events of FIFA
World Cup 2022.

Management (OPM), Agile Practices and Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC Methodology) that
could be used to implement lean project management.

The initiating process group
includes various processes,
skills, activities, and skills
that are required for defining
the beginning of the project.
A planning process group is
used to set different processes
that are needed to describe the
scope of the project. It also
used in setting the strategic
planning for increasing the
workflow (Ipsaro, 2014). The
executing process group helps
to manage the team
effectively. All the concerns
of a team are discussed here,
and all the issues are resolved
properly so that no conflict
will occur in upcoming days.
Monitoring and control
process group assist in
addressing and controlling
various processes that would
help in meeting the
expectations of team
members. The last but not the

least process of PMBOK is
closing process group. This
commonly addresses the
culmination of strong project
management skill which is
demonstrated throughout
other correlated activities that
guided the project. In this
stage, all the processes get
completed, and a project is
closed successfully.
PRINCE2 PRINCE2 is known as a
process-based approach that is
used in project management.
This provides an easily
tailored as well as scalable
method for managing all
kinds of project. This can be
used in managing and
controlling the event like
FIFA World Cup 2022. The
processes used in this
methodology are the
following:
 Starting up a project
 Initiating a Project
 Directing a Project
 Controlling a Stage
 Managing Product
Delivery
 Closing a project
Directing a project process is
the responsibility of the
project board. Thus, it can be
used in directing all the events
of FIFA World Cup 2022.
Project board of sports event

stages and manage the overall
project by applying the

in the second process,

responsibility of starting up
