INTRODUCTION
Learning contract can be defined as an agreement which is negotiated between
supervisor and learner for ensuring that few activities will be taken that will be helpful for
achieving learning objectives. The objectives of an individual to enter into a learning contract is
to improve their own behavior and to explore more learning opportunities. Such types of learning
contract provides student with the ownership of their own learning (Kuh, Gambino and
O’Donnell, 2018). A learning contract can also be considered to as voluntary as well a document
completed by learner which highlights the actions which an individual will take in order to
accomplish academic success. Learning contract is considered to be as an effective tool for
enhancing self- directed learning. The benefit of learning contract is that it provides an individual
motivation to learn. In addition to this, learning's contract requires a person to explore their
readiness to learn (Osagie, Wesselink and Mulder, 2018).
The Gibbs reflective model has been used in the report for reflecting personal experience
related to own learning contract. In present report Personal Analysis will be done using Soar
model for analyzing the strength, opportunity, aspirations and results. Study will have
emphasizes on importance of learning through reflection.
TASK 1
1A) Reflection on one week event
In this assignment I will reflect on situation which took place during my working group. I
will use Gibbs model for reflecting my experience related to own learning contract. The
hypothesis consists of six stages these are description, feeling, evaluation, analysis, conclusion
and action plan.
Description about event : I have taken responsibility to undertake learning contract, according
to the instruction or suggestion from tutor I prepared the contract proposal. But before preparing
the proposal I conducted the reflective practice or self assessment which has assisted me in
identifying the areas which I required to improve. I have taken feedback from my peers well as
instructor in order to find my learning needs. After completion of the contract proposal I
presented the same to subject coordinator for further suggestions. I presented the learning
contract in three phases. Submission of learning stage, at each phase I was provided with detailed
feedback from tutor (Duchesne and McMaugh, 2018). Before preparing the proposal I set the
few learning's goals which as helped me in assessing my performance during learning's

procedure. In learning contract I have included group learning activity which my senor has
suggested me and according to contract I was performing learning activity. First learning activity
I need to work in a group to complete specific tasks, I have included such task in learning
contract as I perceive that it will help me in developing team spirit and will assist me in
increasing my knowledge related to specific project .
Group of people with whom I was working with consists of mixture of both males and
females belonging to different age groups. The first day we starting working in a team, I and my
group members were asked to select the learning styles (Brockett and Hiemstra, 2018.). During
the fist week of the learning contract I was given with brief information about the learning
activities and also about the topic which will be taught. In addition to this, I was also given brief
introduction about each topic as well as sub topic s which will be covered in module.
Importance of event : The particular event is very much crucial as I learned many thins and I
came to know about the challenges which might occur in continuing the learning. Specific event
is important for me as learning contract has provided me an opportunity to fulfill my learning
needs. This event has provided me a chance to concentrate an applied project related to
workplace. It was an opportunity where I can share my learning goals with Tutor or instructor.
Technique or model used : I have used both swot and SoaR Model. I have utilized Swot analysis
in order to identify my strength as well as weakness.
Feeling : On the first day of working in a group I felt frighted and nervous. I perceive that I was
youngest in the group and I did not know anyone. I also felt discomfort as I have not
participated in group learning activity. I felt out of place I really did not like being in a team
where no one interact with each other. I was little concerned about the difficulty which I will
face while learning in a team. In addition to the above, My other concern was whether I will be
able to match with the learning speed with other in a group or not. But at the same time I felt
little excited to learn new things. I was anxious to know about the content of the course and
methods of teaching which will be used for making us learn. I also felt Anxiety about using
learning contracts may also be due to inadequate knowledge with insufficient information having
been given in the briefing session. One first week I also face issue of Time limitation.
Evaluation : It was good experience learning in group. As during such type of learning process I
came to know about my strength and weakness and also area where I feel little uncomfortable.

After completion of first week of contract learning I found that I face difficulty in understanding
some concepts.
Analysis: While working in group work I analyzed that there were few people those who have
played significant role ion team activities and few individuals were not participating in group
tasks which lead to the breakdown of communication in team.
Conclusion : I have learned lot many things by participating in group activities which I planned
in self learning contract. I learned to adjust myself with other people. In addition to this, I have
developed understanding about the people reaction. I came way being emphatic as well as I have
also realized that learning contract has provided me with more motivation to increase my
knowledge.
Action Plan : After completion of one week I planned to continue reflection and I have decided
to study the causes for identifying the reason for the challenges which I faced in one week in
context of learning process. I have planned to take feedback from my peers, friends and seniors
in order to identify more ways to improve my learning process.
Effectiveness of learning through reflection
Reflective practices is proved to be very much effective, as it has assisted me in
identifying the are where I need to bring improvement. Such practice has assisted me in
analyzing my own strength and weakness in context of learning. Reflective practices has
supported me in analyzing my learning experience and supported me in identifying the suitable
ways for improving my learning process. In addition to this, reflective practice has provided me
information about the way I perceive the efficacy of thinking. Reflective practice has helped me
in changing my attitude or behavior towards learning process. It has encouraged me to develop
learning attitude and has inspired me to increase my knowledge (Aubrey and Riley, 2018.).
1 B) Reflection on professional context
Importance of learning through reflection
In present scenario, self- reflective writing is becoming increasing crucial activity in
context of Education or learning. Reflective practices enables an individual to identify the skill
gap and assist them in developing an appropriate plan for filling the same. It also allows an
individual to develop more competencies and helps then in measuring the effectiveness.

Reflective practice is considered to be as an effective tool in relation to practice based
professional learning. Reflective writing in context of professional based learning can be an
appropriate way to bring together theory and practice. In addition to this, by conducting the Self
reflective practices in professional context an individual is able to see and label forms of thought
as well as concept in relation to their work within an organization (Mezirow, 2018).
Knowledge gained when applying a particular reflective model -
Self-assessment is something I feel I am constantly engaged in as I seek increased depth
of understanding of the procedure of assessment and a perpetual identification of gaps in
knowledge assessment and a perpetual identification of gaps in knowledge. I consider self
reflective practice to be highly valuable as it helps in identifying the area which require
improvement. Based on the reflective practices I have made few modifications in my learning
contract which I believe that will help me in accomplishing learning objectives.

Gibbs Model of reflection.
Description of event: I participated in contract learning procedure in order to improve my skills
and gain more knowledge about my work profile. Contract learning process was conducted in an
organization where I was working. Our company has conducted the training program for
enabling working to develop the core competency as well as ability to perform specific task.
During the training program role play activity has been organized and people were divided into
group. The purpose of role play activity is to enable people to get knowledge about their roles
and responsibilities. During the role play, I have been assigned with role of leader and my
responsibility was to manage people. The situation which I was given is to there were few
members who were resisting to change and my role as a team leader was to influence them to
support improvement procedure. During the training my tutor have provided me feedback after
completion of the role play and after listening to the suggestion of instructor I laid my focus on
listening’ as a crucial skills for both managers and leaders.
Feeling: When I was assigned with the role play I felt little surprised as it was not a part of my
learning contract. But after completion of training event when I asked trainer for assigning such
role then instructor replied that they are planning to appoint me as a team leader, according to

him I have many qualities of leaders but there are few skills such as influencing power, problem
solving ability, strategic planning skills etc. which are required to be developed by me. By
getting feedback from I was little surprised. During the training, I was very much interested in
gaining the knowledge about the difference between behavior of leaders and managers. I felt
little surprised when instructor during the training concentrated on listening skills which He
perceives that is essential for both leader and manager.
Evaluation : After conducting the reflective practice after the completion of training program I
found that I lack various abilities such as problem solving and strategic skills which is very much
important to be developed in context of performing my role as team leader. Before Training
program I perceived myself as a perfect leader but after the second assessment after training I
found that there is a high scope of improvement in specific skills. When I evaluated my
performance during role play I also found that during the role play I didn't engage with my team
members.
After conducting the self assessment I found that I also lack negotiation skills which is
very much important in order to facilitate a negotiation with team members other people. I also
found that before this training event I would not have considered the ability to engage with the
wider community as a key leadership skill. During the training I found difference between
motivational role of manager as well as inspirational role of leaders. This is the evidence which
shows that I have good understanding level and analytical skills. After analyzing the information
provided during the training I found that I need to develop creative skills as well improved my
strategic thinking skills, companies nowadays are searching for leaders those who create future
for them. I perceive that development of both strategic thinking and creative abilities will assist
me in my professional development.
Analysis : During the training event I found that I analyzed that there are certain people those
who have high ability to gain learning. After conducting the self assessment I found myself as
slow learner as compared to other people those who have participated in training program.
During the training event I found that there were few other people like me who learn quickly by
performing activities. I have also observed some people who learn by analyzing the discussion
facilitated by other people. When I analyzed the feedback from my instructor I found that he
meant to state that in order to fulfill my role as a leader I need to be more focused on team as it

leader I found that I need to improve my management skills and need to developed the
understanding about the different techniques for managing people and work.
Conclusion : I have developed the understanding from the module that I have understood from
this module component that elements of leadership capability should make up part of my
development plan as I believe that it will assist me in enhancing my career. During the training
event I found that creativity and strategic thinking is very much essential for leaders in order to
perform their role in effective as well as systematic manner.
Plan of action : After analyzing the whole performance during role play I found that
management skills of mine can be continue to be developed while working in an enterprise with
cross functional team. I also perceive that my influencing power as a leader can be developed if I
developed the knowledge about different types of motivational techniques. I planned to use
internet sites for getting the informational about motivational theories and also about techniques.
I will also attend personality development classes which will assist me in improving my
personality as a leader (Wang, Yuan and Peng, 2018). I planned that I will have personal
meeting with my previous leaders and will observe them as this will help me in identifying their
skills which has made them effective leader. After conducting the self assessment I also found
that I don't have experience of managing as well as dealing with change. I planned that I will
conduct research in order to identify the important skills which as required for becoming change
leader. I have also decided that I will improve my listening skills by practicing. I will reflect
back to the queries of my team members in order to demonstrate that I am actively listening to
them. I perceive that development of knowledge and various skills such as strategic thinking,
problem solving , effective listening skills I will become good leader. I also perceive that
improvement in different abilities will assist me in fostering my personal as well as professional
growth.
