Task 2
Mentoring and coaching plan
Last year, you held mentoring and coaching sessions for the team.
As a group, the team provided the following feedback about last year’s mentoring:
The sessions were helpful, however you did not seem to have time to conduct them
on a regular basis
Minimal team consultation and input was sought
Keeping this feedback in mind, reflect on the learning and development plan you finalised in
Assessment 2. Identify an area where a mentoring opportunity exists, then develop a
mentoring and coaching plan which includes:
Learning and development area
Mentoring goal/s
Coaching activities
Proposed mentoring meeting dates
Review dates
For this task, you will continue to work with the team member you collaborated with in
Assessment 2. You will conduct the mentoring and coaching session in Assessment 4.
Answer:
Mentoring and coaching is very crucial to teammates. This is because it helps them,
understand as well as learn from the mentor and the coach. Besides, this gives all the
teammates time to learn from one another as well as ask questions that they need answered.
Given the feedback given by teammates that I worked with and those that I mentored and
coached, it is clear that the mentoring and coaching sessions were very helpful. However,
there is need to further coach them and invest more time in these sessions as they require
more coaching as well as personal sessions. As a result, there are mentoring opportunities that
still exist within my teammates. For instance, the learning and development areas that need to
be touched on include the issue of management as well as self-development. The mentoring
goals that should be achieved upon investing on the available mentoring opportunities are to
ensure that every teammate feels appreciated and served at a personal level (Magni et al.,
2019). In addition, another objective of the mentoring session is to ensure that the
management and self-development objectives of the teammates are met. The coaching
activities will include participating in management roles as well as development roles in
groups as well as individually. The proposed mentoring dates will be every Thursday.
Reviews will be made after every two weeks.
