Introduction
Introduction
‘Domestic violence’ is a term, which is used to describe any pattern of occurrence of
incidents or any type of event where a threatening or controlling behaviour, abused or violence.1
These incidents of such violence may be emotional, physical, as well as sexual and financial.
Such physical violence may include throwing objects and assault to the women, and young
people of a family and such emotional violence also includes controlling behaviour and some
verbal threats. Nowadays, such domestic violence or abuse has been happening through mobile
phones, internets, or on several social network sites. Such young people and children are
addicted to such mobile phones, which may be a cause of such violence.2 They may not be able
to use those electronics like any adult; therefore, the perpetrators may take such negative side as
their weapon of such domestic violence. It can be said that this domestic violence or abuse is not
only happening in the home but also happens in social sites.
Background
One of the British politicians, Jack Ashley, has used the term ‘domestic violence’ for the
first time in such a modern context. He has introduced such domestic violence as a meaning of
the violence at home in the Parliament of the UK in the year 1973.3 It has come out that such

domestic violence is not only effected to the adult of the family, but it has also made a significant
effect on the young of the family. This term has previously used as civil violence or civil unrest
in the home. The movement of the first-wave feminist, as well as political agitation in the period
of the 19th century, has directed to modifications in both legislation and popular opinion on the
subject of domestic violence inside the territory of the UK, as well as the US and other nations.
In the territory of the UK, almost 37 % of the murdered women have been killed by their in-laws.
According to the Statistic Authority in the UK, such as the Office of National Statistics (ONS),
in the year 2018, almost 4.2 % of men, as well as almost 7.9 of women including children have
been suffered from such domestic violence in various ways in the territory of England and
Wales.4 The aim of this research proposal for research is to identify various causes of domestic
violence on young people, and the impact of it on them and how this violence will be reduced.
Research aims and objectives
The aims of this study is to identify the causes and impact of such domestic violence to
young persons and children in their future.
The objectives of this research proposal are:
 To understand the effect of domestic violence on the children and young people
in a family.
 To find out various causes of domestic violence to the young people in our
society.

 To suggest some probable means or ways by which this domestic violence to the
young can be reduced.
Research questions
The research questions are:
 What are the roles of the family persons in such domestic violence to young
people or the children in a family?
 What are the causes, as well as the effects of such domestic violence to the young
people for their future?
 What are the probable ways to reduce such violence to young people?
Literature Review
Meaning of domestic violence towards young people
Domestic violence to the children can be arisen out of anger or any violent behaviour of
the parents of the child or any other adults of that family.5 Generally, this domestic violence has
happened to the adults of a family such as a woman may be a victim of such violence from his
husband, as well as in-laws. The young people or a child can be victimised by their relatives.
Normally, the victim child can able to express such violence to his or her parent as they think
their parent may not believe such incidents.6 The young people or children can not express their

pain out of fear. They are easily victimised by such perpetrators, as there are many ways to
intimidate or threaten the child and coerced them not to communicate anything to their parent.
Statistical report to such domestic violence
Some statistical reports on such domestic violence towards the children and young people
are sketching in this paragraph. Almost 14.2 % of the children or such young people, who have
not crossed the age of 18 years, have to live within an environment of domestic violence.7 There
are various incidents of such domestic violence, which are not reported to law enforcement
officials. In a report or research on such domestic violence, it has come to the knowledge that in
the territory of the UK, that many children have died as a victim of domestic violence. In a recent
conduct analysis, almost 42 % of the child related cases are involved in an allegation of child
abuse and domestic violence. Divorce of the parents may be an outcome of child abuse and
domestic violence towards them.8 The alleged perpetrator of domestic violence or child abuse in
contradiction of the non-abusive parent made almost 77% of those cases, such as parental
separation or distancing.
Effect of such domestic violence towards the children and young people
There is a significant effects of such domestic violence towards the children and young
people on their behaviour and mental conditions. The child who is a victim of such domestic
violence may become depressed and anxious.9 They may have difficulty in sleeping, and it
becomes a nightmare to them. There may be arisen some psychiatric problems to them. It may

affect their behaviour with their peer group, as well as on their studies. From the year 2013, 16 to
17 year young people have been permitted to access such adult domestic violence to support, as a
consequence of their annexation in the definition of such domestic abuse.10 A hatred mind of the
child can be arisen as an aggressive nature. It may happen that those victimised children may be
going for suicide, as they may have no accurate time to share their pain with any other person.
Way of understanding domestic violence towards young people
It is not so difficult to understand that a child is suffering from any domestic violence or
abuse. They may not express their pain by opening their mouth, but their parent may understand
by their unnatural behaviour.11 The child may express his hurt or discomfort of such violence by
way of drawing. The parent of any child psychiatric can understand such violence to analysis
their drawings. They may not want to meet with the perpetrators, as they gain a fear to such
persons. As the parents are the nearest one of their children; therefore, they should be more
careful about their children’ behaviour.

Literature Gap
There are various kinds of literature regarding domestic violence on the women and its
effect on the children. However, there are a few kinds of literature on the topic of domestic
violence on young people and children. This research proposal is for the vast study on such a
topic, as well as to find those objectives mentioned above.
Primary sources
The Parliament of the UK has amended the Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act
200412 to identify such domestic violence and to provide justice to the victims of such violence.
It has applied to Northern Ireland, England and Wales and some other parts of the UK except
Scotland.13 This Act has concerned with legal protections of the victims of such domestic
violence along with children or young people, and it has concentrated on assisting the victims of
such crime. It has also expanded the power for the trials in the absence of a jury, brought in new
guidelines for trials to cause the vulnerable death adult or of a child.
Research methodology
Data collection method
The research on the domestic violence towards the children or young people in a family
will be depended upon both requirement of primary, as well as secondary sources. The primary
data will be collected from direct interviews of the victims and conducting surveys and court

observations. The secondary data for such research will be accumulated from various legislation,
a government website, and various related journals and articles of the scholars.14
Data analysis method
There are two types of data for conducting any research, such as qualitative and
quantitative data analysis. For analysing qualitative data, the information is being collected from
scholarly articles and journals and from such interview to the victims or their family members.
For such quantitative data analysis, the information, which is collected from surveys, will be
transformed into percentages to gain such data of comparison.15
Sample size
It is expected that around 100 victim young people or children will be asked to participate
in that interview and the survey as well. Almost 50 people, who are the parent of those victims of
domestic violence will be asked for an interview.
Ethical issues
Some ethical and moral issues will be followed during this entire research. The
participants of the research will not be forced for taking part in that survey or interview. In that
research, the participants of that research will have to sign in a form to show their keenness. As it
is proposed to conduct an interview for the victim children and young people, then there will be
their parents or authorised guardians with them. The conversation of such interviews will be
recorded with prior permission to those participants and their authorised guardians. In case if

there will be any need for approval or permission from any authority, then the authorization letter
of such research from our university will be represented there. The name of the participants will
not be disclosed in any case. If the information or data are collected from any article or journal of
any scholar, then there will be a proper referencing of such data to avoid any copyright
infringement or any plagiarism. Therefore, in the proposed research, there will not be any
violation of these ethical recommendations.
Research limitations
In research, there will be some limitations, not matter how it has been well planned.16 As
it is thought that, there will be an interview with the children, who have been victimised on such
domestic violence. Therefore, the children or young people may to express their real vision; they
may tell anything imaginary to the interviewers. The adult participants, such as the parents of
those victims or the authorised guardians, may suppress some facts or avoid to disclose some
issues for their family purpose. However, this research will be tried to complete with the most
appropriate way.
Proposed section
The proposed section for this research proposal is to discuss domestic violence towards
young people or children in a family. The goal of this research to identify the causes and
outcome of such domestic violence towards young people and children in society. The young
people in any family may be prey to such domestic violence in various ways. They may be
victimised physically, mentally, as well as sexually. The parents or other adults may torture the

young people may be for their studies or any other childish activity. The research thesis will help
to identify such causes of domestic violence. In a broader sense, this violence may affect the
future of young people, as well as to the community.

From the above chart, it can be said that if the teacher has given permission to start the
dissertation or this research, then it can be completed before the Christmas and New Year
vacation.
