Introduction
Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by removing the embryo from the uterus before it can
be able to survive outside. This paper therefore seeks to dig deeper into why states should
consider making abortion legal (Collucci, 2018).
Body
The mainstream media is full of stories of rape and other forms of sexual abuse. The result of
rape is pregnancy and/or transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. In the case of an STI, one
is strongly advised to seek for medication but if it is a pregnancy then an individual is compelled
to carry it when they were not ready for it. These people who are not yet prepared for the
pregnancy are likely to experience difficulty during pregnancy and delivery which puts their life
in danger. The pain and trauma of carrying a pregnancy as a result of rape, giving birth to a child
and taking care of the child is too much. The victim goes through suffering when they are not
responsible for the results
There are times when some complications may arise during the pregnancy thereby putting the
life of the mother and the fetus in danger. On several occasions when such things have happened,
the society has ended up losing both the mother and the fetus. An attempt to save the life of at
least one human being would be highly welcomed (Collucci, 2018). When abortion is not legalized
in such a case then the same law will be warranting and providing conducive environment for
death which it should serve to protect and therefore legalizing abortion is a fruitful venture which
the society should pursue.

A keen look at abortion cases from different states across the world indicates that there has been
a steady increase in abortion irrespective of what law says about it. For those who live in
countries where abortion has been legalized have been doing it in a safer manner than those
whose laws restrain them. This has been ending up costing people their lives especially the
young mothers who are either not ready to take up the responsibility of being a mother or those
who fear that they will be reprimanded by peers or parents for getting pregnant. Legalizing
abortion will therefore help in saving the lives of many young women who lose their lives while
attempting to procure illegal abortion which is done unprofessionally hence costing them their
lives (Warren, 2015).
Places where abortion has not been allowed by law has compelled many women who get
unwanted pregnancies to carry them even when they are not financially, emotionally and
psychologically prepared to take care of such babies. This results to bringing of children in
poverty where they do not get access to basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. Such kids are
even likely to dies due to malnutrition and starvation because the parent lacks the ability to
provide for the child. They end up uneducated and when they grow up life becomes tough taking
them back to the vicious cycle of poverty. Those children who are daring or when they are
pushed by situations they are likely to start engaging in crimes and other illegal activities like
drug trafficking and prostitution to earn an income (Warren, 2015). It would be better to abort
such a fetus so that it is not born to die of starvation or die from prison due to engagement in
crimes.
There are many people who argue that abortion has many disadvantages like a feeling of guilt of
killing after the abortion, it can possibly result to the death of the mother and it is against
religion. Those who are staunch believers of religions like Islam and Christianity are against

abortion at the same time when the same religions are after doing good things and protecting life.
This is what is making many people to avoid going for it (Altamimi, 2015). When law permits
abortion, it paves way to do it in an appropriate manner. In such a sense, abortion will be done
after an assessment of the situation so that it does not becomes a routine for many people.
Conclusion
In conclusion, making abortion legal in a given area of jurisdiction helps in improving the life of
the entire society, can save the life of the mother, can help a rape victim recover from mental
torture and allows one to prepare to bring up a child before giving birth to such a child. (Altamimi,
2015).
