SHOULD ABORTION BE LEGAL? 2
Should Abortion be legal?
Introduction
Abortion has been an issue of concern and is continually debated for a very long period.
The primary debate always revolves around on whether the abortion should be permitted or
legalized or not. Abortion can be defined as the damage or termination of unborn or fetus while
the fetus is within the mother's uterus ( Sedgh, Singh, Shah, Hman, Henshaw & Bankole,2012).
The process can be carried out by the mother on her own in backing the alley abortion and can as
well be conducted by the medical professionals. Different cultures and the societies have
different opinions towards this act linked to termination of the fetus. For instance, some states
have allowed abortions to a certain level, and others have completely banned it. Hence abortion
is a highly debated issue in various countries. In this particular piece am going to contest for
abortions.
Abortion as the choice of a woman
Various exponents of the abortions like the Procorn.org describes abortion as a pro-
choice. This category of individuals believes that doing abortion is the unlimited choice of a
woman and can never be controlled by any other institution, societal or any religious power
(ProCon, 2013). Abortion is the right of any woman who wants to outweigh the right in claiming
the fetus or an embryo. These individuals continue in arguing that in case there is the absence of
laws to regulate the abortions, then the result increases in illegal or unsafe abortions (Haddad &
Nour, 2009).
The pro-choice people again believe that a significant percentage of women who wish not
to have kids at a specific time should abstain from sex. But this idea does not apply in the cases

of couples who may want to continue enjoying their relationships without kids since there are not
in the position of supporting them at that particular time. Other individuals may say they can
apply the preventive measure like the use of contraceptive, but they do not consider the
approaches sometimes they do fail. This brings a lot of frustration to many women since to them
they were doing the right thing, but the products end up abandoning them. This is something out
of their control, and if you were in the court of law and what your doing is legal but the product
failed no one would be liable for that. Therefore, giving the women abortion as the next option is
one of the best things since even after the accidental pregnancy a corporation can never help her
in supporting the kid (World Health Organization, 2011).
Abortion as a result of lack of preparedness for the Kids
The individuals who are the pro-choice believe that many women have the right in
choosing whether to go on with their pregnancies or not and giving birth should be an option in
case they do not want a kid. A significant number of individuals believes that in case you're not
ready for a child, the best option is to abort until when you're prepared to have the child. This
will enhance the kid to live a happy and comfortable life when growing up thus becoming an
essential person within a given community. According to different researches conducted
globally, they have proven that many kids who emerge from the unwanted pregnancies are likely
to fall into the crimes in their lifetime. Many economists have tried to link the abortion with the
decrease of crime rate by making the abortion legal. The research carried out in the year 1990
indicated that the topmost crimes committed in the past years were done by the individuals of
less than 25 years. This theory was developed by the economist by the name of Steven Levitt
who argued that when the abortion was legalized after 20 years, the rate of crime decreased. This

was a result of many people growing up within the families that loved them and provided them
with their necessities (Donohue, Grogger, & Levitt, 2009).
What of if the woman is raped
Lastly, many individuals may ask many questions revolving around the rape cases. But I
also believe in such incidences; the woman should be allowed to make her own decision since
this was an unavoidable circumstance. I firmly think that if the woman decided to let the baby
live, it's more worth. (Department of Reproductive Health and Research WHO, 2012).
Conclusion
In conclusion, abortion comes with its consequences; there is a great danger for the
women who undergo the process to develop long-life health problems. It can also result in
spontaneous miscarriages or complications in giving birth in the future. Therefore, the mother
who takes the option of abortions should be aware of these side effects.
