across Australia has the highest number of victims
among homosexual men. Among the total
number of deaths that has occurred because of
AIDS 89 per cent were gay or homosexual men.
The total diagnoses of HIV 88 per cent are men

cent are gay men.

So it can be said that the gay and bisexual male
community is mostly affected by the epidemic. The
commonwealth department of health and family
services has confirmed the fact that the majority of
the patients suffering from HIV related illness
belong to the gay male category.

The chief reason for this is because of the fact that
there is a taboo still existing in the society regarding
physical relation among gay men. The lack of
knowledge regarding the gay sexual activity makes
people less precautious about protection. The
sexual activities among gay men don’t result in
procreation and hence there is neglect among them
in taking protection while participating in sexual
activity. Existence of taboo stops the teachers to
discuss the use of condom for protection against
sexually transmitting diseases and more focus on
the aspect of pregnancy. The topic of gay sex is
never mentioned while creating awareness.
The possible intervention technique that can
be used involves health promotion programs.
Creating more awareness regarding
homosexual relationship in sex education in
schools can also be a possible method of
ensuring safety (Health 2018).
The possible resistance in this case can come
from the fact that there are very less number
of people who would like to participate in such
health awareness programs because of the
fear of being socially stigmatised.
