LGBTQ rights include laws that involve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people
(Barbot & Durso, (2017). These laws vary significantly from country or territory. It
encompasses the legal recognition of same-sex marriage to the death penalty for homosexuality.
The paper aims to discuss LGBTQ rights considering an article from The Washington Post.
On 25th January 2018 The Washington Post published an article name “In three years,
LGBT Americans have gone from triumph to backlash”. The article discussed the recent opening
up of people regarding the LGBT people. According to recent studies, the majority of non-LGBT
people are uncomfortable regarding their neighbourhood. Although changes have come swiftly
and people have become more comfortable in their acceptance of gender orientation, there is a
particular portion of the population that still not comfortable with the LGBT people.
According to Rosenberg (2018), Americans seem to pull back when it considers the
LGBTQ acceptance. However, it is not only Trump’s public statements but also his policies. The
country is rolling back LGBT rights. Trump has already declined to accept Obama’s recognition
of June as national LGBT Pride Month. Policies as this are impactful, and it is even encouraging
Anti-LGBT violence and not acknowledging rising homophobia in the country. The article not
only brought light to Trump’s behaviour towards LBGT but also highlighted the amount of
coverage LGBT people and issue received in the 2016 presidential election. Due to Trump’s
action, the issues regarding them have been erased from the news media coverage.
The gay rights organisation has been looking for ways to tell stories that media is failing
to do. The organisation is working on making short documentaries that would be regarding
transgender service. The CEO of the organisation hopes this would bring a lot of attention to the
issue and it would help in raising funds for new projects. She specifically feels the storytelling
way will bring achievements to the goal of her organisation.

The gay rights have definitely come into existence, however, the survey conducted by the
organisation shows that there is no need to become competence as their results are disappointing.
There are still milestones to achieve the road yet is not secure as the supports from the
countrymen are slowly on the decline.
