BOOK SUMMARY 1
1. Introduction
This discussion is based on a book’s review written by Jodi Picoult, which is
chosen by me because it is a heart-breaking, heart-wrenching, miserable, sad,
upsetting and well-written book I have ever read. The book reading actually made
me cry which depicts that the book is an uplifting, triumphant and poignant story. The
book has shown the boundaries of typical family obligations, sacrifice as well as love
(Picoult, 2009).
2. Book Details
The book which is being reviewed has the title as My Sister's Keeper. The
book is written by by Jodi Picoult. The publication of the book is Washington Square
Press (WSP). The publication is working since 1959 and name has constantly been
synonymous for the finest in classic as well as contemporary fiction books. It is the
part of the Atria Publishing Group. It is worth knowing that WSP is the paperback
home of so many international talented contemporary storytellers. In addition to that,
WSP is famous for publishing stories written by Joseph Kanon, Fredrik Backman,
Thomas Keneally, Jennifer Weiner and Jodi Picoult. Apart from this, WSP is known
for publishing literary fiction as well as topical non-fiction within trade paperbacks.
Lastly, the chosen publisher of this book is an imprint of Atria Books, being an

3. Summary of the Book
The book is the thought-provoking, poignant as well as bittersweet journal
published by WSP. This book is containing a story about a 13 year old girl Anna,
who is living an average life (Picoult, 2009). The most important part is that Anna is a

genetically engineered baby and was designed for being genetic match for her sister.
The sister of Anna, Kate is having acute leukaemia and hence the whole life of Anna
is dedicated to give support to Kate’s life. The book has narrated on how Anna has
spent the entire life of her while giving blood as well as bone marrow to Kate just to
keep her alive. Anna has been seen in under pressure to give one of her kidney to
Kate as well (Picoult, 2009). Due to such reasons, Anna has decided to sue her
parents for the right to her own body. The writer Jodi Picoult has written the book in
most attractive way while providing the different viewpoints or stories of different
characters of the book.
For instance, the writer has offered views of Anna’s mother, Anna’s lawyer,
Anna’s father, Anna’s brother and her guardian in this book. The book is clearly
indicating that the world is not white or black and every fascinated character of this
book is reflecting the same. It has been observed that so many serious ethical and
moral debates are comprehended in the chosen book. Here, the core review of the
book is suggesting that this book written by Jodi Picoult is thouroughly sad and full of
miseries. The book has successfully addressed the deep harshness of life. The
thoroughly reading of this book suggests that life is not at all fair. However, life also
brings us some funny, sweet, happy, touching and emotional moments which makes
living worth (Picoult, 2009). Thus, the book is all about sisterhood, sacrifices and
choices, we all need to have in life.
4. Evaluation and Conclusion
If we talk about ‘My Sister’s Keeper’ Book’s strengths and weaknesses, then
there are a lot of strong points to be covered here (Picoult, 2009). The key strength
is that writer has been successful while grabbing the whole attention of its readers

and made them cry as well. The writing skills of the writer made all of us emotional
and feel the true face of life. On the contrary, the weakness is that at some points the
book has shown an unskilful manipulation of the human emotions. In addition,
people who are emotionally strong may like the book however emotionally weak
people may hate the book due to entire theme of the book (Picoult, 2009).
In my opinion, the book is having worst ending and it could have been better
than this. Moreover, I was suggested to read this book, by many of my friends and
hence the expectations were high while reading this book. On the contrary, I also
learned so many good lessons from reading the book. I will use these life lessons
during future for my personal development and more.
